The 68-year-old royal and his wife Camilla met with the head of the Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday (04.04.17) during a six-day tour of Italy.
Charles and Camilla were given a tour of The Vatican, and were handed a bronze olive branch and a copy of the Pope’s Encyclicals, including one on climate change and sustainable development.
During their tour, the royal couple were also shown the Vatican’s secret archive and looked at original documents relating to the Catholic Church and Britain, where they were shown a number of original rare letters including the last letter ever written by condemned Mary Queen of Scots on 8 February 1587 before her execution for treason.
Upon meeting Pope Francis, the pontiff urged Prince Charles to bring peace to the world during their chat which the Daily Express newspaper reports lasted for around 30 minutes.
Pope Francis said: “Wherever you go, may you be a man of peace.”
To which Charles responded: “I’ll do my best.”
Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla, 69, made the trip to the Vatican City as part of their tour of Europe, which has seen them spend six days in Italy visiting cities such as Naples and Vicenza.
After first visiting Florence on Friday (31.03.17), the royal couple returned to the city on Monday (03.04.17) to attend a reception marking the 100th anniversary of the British Institute of Florence, where Charles was named the Renaissance Man of the Year.
Meanwhile, on Sunday (02.03.17), Prince Charles visited the small village of Amatrice, which was devastated by an earthquake in August last year which claimed the lives of 297 people.
Whilst visiting the abandoned ‘red zone’ of the village – where much of the devastation took place – the royal was seen walking in silence as he took in the sight of the buildings which had been reduced to rubble.
He said as he walked past a destroyed church: “It’s a scene of terrifying devastation.”
Prince Charles also met with survivors of the natural disaster in emotional scenes which saw one woman break down in tears whilst another man clasped hands with the prince.
Charles told Amatrice’s mayor, Sergio Pirozzi: “The people in Britain mind very much what’s happened to you all here.”

Prince Harry urges mine free world

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Harry has urged the world to become free of land mines by 2025.
The 32-year-old royal is following in the footsteps of his late mother Princess Diana – who was tragically killed in a car crash almost 20 years ago – by campaigning for one of her most famous causes in ridding the world of land mines.
On Tuesday (04.04.17) Harry hosted a reception at Kensington Palace to mark International Mine Awareness Day, where it was revealed the UK would be tripling its financial backing and donating a whopping £100 million of government funding toward aiding the cause.
International Development Secretary Priti Patel said the extra funding would be used to clear the equivalent of more than 20,000 football pitches, and help more than 800,000 live their lives free of land mines.
Speaking about the funding – which is set to be donated over the next three years – Priti said: “We are here tonight because we recognise that landmines are a global scourge that must be tackled.
“Global Britain has a historic role in tackling the indiscriminate and lethal legacy of landmines. That role was, of course, embodied by the efforts of His Royal Highness’ late Mother, Diana, Princess of Wales.
“Twenty years ago she brought landmines to the world’s attention with her courageous walk through an Angolan mine field.”
The reception at the London palace came as Prince Harry recognised the contribution his mother made to the signing of the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Treaty in Ottawa in 1997, which 80 per cent of countries have gone on to endorse.
A statement from Kensington Palace read: “In the year marking the 20th anniversary of the Princess’s death, Prince Harry is pleased to have this moment to recognise the significant contribution his mother made in this field, the progress which has been made by the Mines Advisory Group, the Hazardous Areas Life-Support Organisation, the UK Government and other organisations, and the opportunity to continue raising awareness of making the world land mine-free by 2025.”

Queen Elizabeth's royal gifts to go on display

OHMYGOSSIP — A collection of gifts received by Queen Elizabeth during her reign are set to be showcased in a new exhibition.
The 90-year-old monarch has amassed a large collection of gifts during her whopping 65-year reign, and now more than 250 official presents that were once handed to the monarch are set to be placed on display at Buckingham Palace.
Visitors to the yearly summer opening of the state rooms at the London residence will be able to view the gifts, which have been given to the Queen during various overseas tours, official engagements, and state visits, and come from over 100 countries around the world.
The gifts include a totem pole made by the Kwakiutl people of Canada’s north-west coast, a London Underground sign with “Buckingham Palace” written on it which the Queen picked up during a tour of Aldgate Station in 2010, and a beaded throne gifted to the royal by the Queen of Nigeria in 1956.
Also included in the exhibition is a model of the Vessel of Friendship ship sailed by the 15th-century Chinese navigator and diplomat Zheng He, given to Queen Elizabeth during a state visit to China in 2015 by President Xi Jinping.
The Royal Gifts exhibition forms part of the Summer Opening of the State Rooms at Buckingham Palace from July 22 to October 1 2017.
Meanwhile, it was revealed earlier this year that the Queen received gifts including a purple bag of salt from the British Virgin Islands whilst Withyham parish in East Sussex, England offered the monarch a padded union flag with the words “Now we are Ninety” on it in commemoration of her 90th birthday last year.
A DVD titled ‘Three Cheers for the Queen’ was also included as a present, and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police gifted the Queen a horse called Sir John, whilst the Royal Cavalry of Oman presented the British royal with a bronze statue of 40 horses and a carriage.

Paul Burrell marries Graham Cooper

OHMYGOSSIP — Princess Diana’s former butler has married his male partner Graham Cooper.
Paul Burrell splashed out £30,000 on a luxurious Lake District wedding to his boyfriend of 10 years Graham Cooper in front of a congregation of 60 people including Paul’s sons Alex, 32, and Nick, 28.
The pair tied the knot at the Linthwaite Hotel in Bowness, Cumbria in matching tartan, designed by Paul himself. As a reminder of his time serving the late Princess Diana and Queen Elizabeth, he opted to include red for Diana, gold for the Queen and green to remember his time on UK reality show ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here’ in the tartan design.
Paul, 58, also wore cufflinks handed to him by the late royal, who died in a car crash in Paris, France, in 1997.
Previously, Paul – who divorced his ex-wife Maria last year after spending a decade separated from each other – had said that whilst he never explicitly told Princess Diana about his sexuality, he says her “good judge of character” meant she probably already knew.
Asked if Princess Diana knew he was gay, Paul said: “I never had that conversation with her. “I was her best friend. I was a great adviser on what to wear and when to wear it. I did great flower arrangements … it didn’t have to be said.
“I think Diana was a very good judge of character too, the Queen wouldn’t have chosen me to stand beside her for eleven years, and Diana wouldn’t have chosen me for ten years if I wasn’t the right person.”
And Paul even believes the 90-year-old monarch probably knew he was gay.
He added: “I think she might’ve [known about my sexuality], I think the Queen is a very astute women and she knows her staff inside out.”
Meanwhile, Paul previously admitted it was the Queen who recommended he tie the knot with Maria in 1994, who was working as Prince Philip’s maid at the time.
He said: “Her Majesty took me aside and said, ‘Paul, the institution of marriage is a wonderful thing – have you thought of getting married?’ I said, ‘Well, your Majesty, I have, yes’. She replied ‘Well there are some lovely girls around the Palace. I’m sure you can find one suitable’.
“Some time later I was in Her Majesty’s bedroom and Prince Philip’s maid came in to help me. She helped me pull over a cover and smiled at me and I thought, ‘How sweet, she’s lovely’. That was Maria. We went to Balmoral, very much a party place and somewhere to begin relationships. We got to know each other better and realised we had a great deal in common. I took a picture of her as she was leaving to go back to London. That’s the moment I thought, ‘Yes, she’s the one I’m going to marry’.”

Queen Elizabeth invited Tim Peake to dinner

OHMYGOSSIP — Queen Elizabeth has had dinner with astronaut Major Tim Peake.
The 90-year-old monarch invited the British astronaut and his wife Rebecca to Windsor Castle on Monday (03.04.17) for a special dinner in celebration of Tim becoming the first Briton to form part of the crew of the International Space Station (ISS).
The dinner comes as one of many hosted by the Queen as part of her Easter Court, when she takes up residence at the Berkshire castle for a month during the spring and hosts dinner parties for famous guests which have previously included Tim Burton, Helena Bonham Carter, and James Bond star Daniel Craig.
According to the Daily Telegraph newspaper, the events are known as “dine and sleep” as guests are offered a room in the castle to stay the night after their meal.
And it isn’t the first time 44-year-old Tim has had contact with the Queen either, as he previously corresponded with the monarch whilst he was in orbit during a historic six-month European Space Agency mission which he returned from in June.
After Queen Elizabeth sent him well wishes, Tim became the first astronaut to deliver a “God save the Queen” message directly to the royal when he spoke with her via a video message live from the ISS.
Tim was also made a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George (CMG) in the monarch’s birthday honours, making him the first person to be honoured while in space.
Queen Elizabeth, Tim, and his wife were joined by the Queen’s husband Prince Philip at the dinner, along with the Belgian ambassador, the Brazilian ambassador, the former Bishop of London the Right Reverend and Right Honourable Richard Chartres, and the head of Eton College Simon Henderson.

Prince Harry surprises double amputee

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Harry has surprised a double amputee training for the Marathon des Sables.
The 32-year-old royal made a special visit to the Institute for Naval Medicine in Gosport on Monday (03.04.17) to meet with Duncan Slater, a double amputee training for the gruelling 150-mile race through the Sahara Desert.
The race sees competitors stretched to their limit as they are tasked with carrying all their food and equipment whilst taking on sand dunes and rugged hills, and Duncan intends to be the first double amputee to ever finish the notoriously difficult journey.
In a video captured by ITV News, Duncan can be seen running on a treadmill in an acclimatisation session in 40-degree heat when Prince Harry arrives.
Speaking to Duncan, Harry said: “Nice to see you. This is horrible. I wasn’t really in the neighbourhood but I had to come and see you sweating your balls off on a treadmill in a sauna. You’re looking good.”
This year is the second time Duncan has attempted to complete the trek, as last year he came within 35 miles of the finish line but had to pull out after his stumps were rubbed raw.
Duncan is now armed with a new set of carbon fibre limbs, which he hopes will make all the difference.
He said: “You don’t feel that you’re like disabled, you don’t feel like you’re the amputee, you don’t feel like the guy that’s getting stared at you’re just part of the crowd that’s trying to get across the desert that day and it makes you feel sort of a lot better about things.”
Duncan is using his place in the race to raise money for Walking with the Wounded, a charity which aims to retrain and re-skill wounded service men and women, and to support them in finding new careers outside the Military.

Duchess Catherine joined Pippa Middleton for her hen do in France

OHMYGOSSIP — Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, joined Pippa Middleton on a skiing holiday for her hen party.
The 35-year-old royal – who is married to Prince William – spent time skiing in Meribel, France, last month as part of a secret hen party thrown for her younger sister Pippa, who is set to tie the knot with her hedge fund manager fiancé James Matthews next month.
A source said: “Pippa loves skiing so it was her first choice for a hen weekend. They stayed in a really exclusive catered chalet with maids and chef, who ensured that they were totally spoilt.”
And insiders say Pippa, 33, and her friends were “showered with gifts” by the owners of the chalet, who wanted to “impress” the royal guests.
They added to The Sun newspaper: “The owners also wanted to impress their royal guests so the girls were showered with gifts. They were given Swatch watches, Ugg slippers, leather-bound notebooks and bespoke fragrances. It was a very small, private party and they had an amazing time.”
Pippa and Catherine’s trip to the French ski resort reportedly came at the same weekend that Prince William was spotted on his own ski holiday with his friends in Verbier, Switzerland.
Whilst on his holiday, the 34-year-old royal was filmed busting out his old school dance moves inside the Farinet nightclub.
A video filmed by an onlooker shows the Prince dancing in a less than impressive ‘dad dancing’ style to the hit song ‘I Got 5 On It’ by American hip hop duo Luniz, before he was then seen grooving to some electronic dance music (EDM).
The royal couple’s separate ski trips came in the days before William’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, held a ceremony in support of Commonwealth Day (13.03.17), which William was noticeably absent from.
The Prince’s younger brother Prince Harry, 32, was in attendance at the event, as was their father Prince Charles.
Also at the ceremony were Prince Philip, Duchess Camilla, Prince Andrew, and Prince Edward.
The event marked the start of the Commonwealth Games baton relay, which sees the ceremonial baton travel 140,000 miles over 388 days, visiting each of the 52 Commonwealth nations before arriving in Australia’s Gold Coast in time for the start of the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Duchess Camilla praises 'brave' human trafficking survivors

OHMYGOSSIP — Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, has praised the “brave” survivors of human trafficking in Naples.
The 69-year-old visited the Italian city over the weekend to meet with victims of human trafficking in an area which had formerly been occupied by The Camorra, an Italian Mafia-type crime syndicate.
Whilst there, she witnessed a fashion show put on by former victims of human trafficking at La Gloriette, a picturesque villa in Naples once owned by crime boss Michele Zaza.
The villa was confiscated by the state after his death in custody, and is now used by a charities supporting victims of crime and women who have fled domestic violence.
Speaking to the women, Duchess Camilla said: “You are all very brave women, I think you’re very strong, you are united which is so important. It is so terrible, so many lives destroyed. It is good that you all talk and support each other. It is so important to talk.”
And the deputy mayor of Naples, Raffaele del Giudice, said: “This is a site of great symbolic significance because it was taken from a Camorra boss and turned into a social centre. It represents the fight against criminality and all forms of violence.”
Meanwhile, upon arrival to the Italian city, Duchess Camilla met with the head chef at the Trattoria Pizza Margherita, who had made a specially designed pizza which featured her name written in cheese.
She was also offered another pizza with the words “Welcome to Naples” written on it.

Prince Harry pushes for land mine ban

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Harry is set to follow in his mother’s footsteps as he pushes for a ban on land mines.
The late Princess Diana – who tragically lost her life in 1997 when she was involved in a fatal car crash in Paris, France – famously walked through a mine field in Angola in the year of her death to raise awareness for those killed and injured by the buried bombs.
Now, her 32-year-old son Prince Harry will continue her work as he gears up to speak at a Landmine Free World 2025 reception at Kensington Palace in aid of International Mine Awareness Day on Tuesday (04.04.17).
Kensington Palace said in a statement: “In the year marking the 20th anniversary of the Princess’s death, Prince Harry is pleased to have this moment to recognise the significant contribution his mother made in this field, the progress which has been made by the Mines Advisory Group, the Hazardous Areas Life-Support Organisation, the UK Government and other organisations, and the opportunity to continue raising awareness of making the world land mine-free by 2025.”
Harry will recognise the contribution his mother made to the signing of the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Treaty in Ottawa in 1997, which 80 per cent of countries have gone on to endorse.
The news comes after Diana enraged politicians by endorsing a world wide ban on the use of land mines, and was dubbed a “loose cannon” after it was claimed she wasn’t acting in line with policy.
Speaking in June 1997, the Princess said: “The world is too little aware of the waste of life, limb and land which anti-personnel land mines are causing among some of the poorest people on Earth.
“Some people chose to interpret my visit as a political statement. But it was not. I am not a political figure. My interests are humanitarian. That is why I felt drawn to this human tragedy.”
Meanwhile, Prince Harry has previously visited Angola and Mozambique, where he has met with amputees and witnessed the devastating effects that land mines have on some of the poorest people in the affected communities.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are 'deeply happy'

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are “deeply happy” in their relationship.
The 32-year-old royal and his actress girlfriend have been dating for a little under a year, and it seems their romance is going from strength to strength as sources suggest the pair are doing great together despite factors that could put a strain on their relationship, such as the long distance when Meghan is filming in Canada for ‘Suits’.
A source said: “Despite the distance, the media attention and everything else, there’s a real ease to their relationship. It just works. They are deeply happy.”
Meghan, 35, has been thrown into the spotlight since the pair went public with their relationship in the autumn last year, but the insider says the added media attention hasn’t brought her down at all.
They told People magazine: “She is incredibly cool and down to earth. She has a wonderful warmth to her and a bright smile. It’s very easy to see why Harry was so drawn to her.”
Meanwhile, Meghan is scheduled to return to Canada for “filming commitments” over the spring and summer, so has been determined to spend as much quality time with the flame-haired royal before she returns to work.
A source recently said: “They spend a lot of time watching movies at Harry’s and cooking new dishes. Meg is a great cook and sends Harry out to posh food shops. She has even added a few feminine touches such as scented candles and soft furnishings.”
The couple are also reportedly planning on moving in together, and Meghan believes a move to London will be “inevitable” as Harry will need to continue his royal duties.
The insider added: “They’re trying to spend as much time together as possible as Meg has filming commitments over the spring and summer. But she feels that a move to London is inevitable as their relationship becomes more serious.”

Prince Philip visits Grenadier Guards

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Philip has paid a visit to the Grenadier Guards.
The 95-year-old royal was spotted at Lille Barracks in Aldershot on Thursday (30.03.17) as he met with the soldiers who make up the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards, who are the the most senior regiment of infantry in the British Army.
According to a source, Philip – who is both the Colonel of the regiment and the Ceremonial Chief – took a particular interest in the variety of tattoos displayed on the soldiers.
The insider told the Daily Express newspaper: “He was asking them where they had got them done and what the story was behind them. A corporal was telling him that his was in tribute to a family member who had passed away.”
During his visit, Prince Philip – who is the husband of Queen Elizabeth – received a briefing on the battalion’s role as the Spearhead Battle Group of NATO’s Very High Readiness Joint Task Force, which are able to deal with potential threats in less than 48 hours.
He also witnessed the final of an inter-company football tournament, named the Manchester Cup, which saw the battalion’s Support company come out victorious against Nijmegan Company with a score of 4-2.
Prince Philip has been the Colonel of the regiment since 1975, and has visited the battalion on a number of occasions, including one trip in 2014 which saw one soldier accidentally swear at the royal.
During a football match, the soldier was seen doubled up in pain and listed off a number of swear words to describe his agony, unaware that the royal was stood within ear shot.
Prince Philip asked the soldier: “Are you all right?”
To which the soldier replied: “No, I’m f****d.”
Able to see the funny side, Prince Philip was highly amused by the soldier’s outburst and reportedly laughed about the encounter for some time afterwards.

Meghan Markle unaffected by fame

OHMYGOSSIP — Meghan Markle’s best friend has insisted she hasn’t been changed by fame.
The 35-year-old actress – who is best known for her role as Rachel Zane in ‘Suits’ – was catapulted to world wide fame last year when she struck up a relationship with her boyfriend Prince Harry, but her best friend Lindsay Roth says dating the royal hasn’t changed her “selfless” nature.
Lindsay said: “I don’t know many people who are as generous and supportive as Meg is. I think people assume that when someone gains notoriety that they change. But she’s still the same girl I met years ago, with the same values and priorities. She’s selfless, and that’s just a part of who she is and who she was raised to be.”
And Lindsay has also praised Meghan – who began dating the 32-year-old royal almost a year ago – for being a “strong advocate for women and girls” both in the public eye and behind the scenes.
She added: “While the public sees Meg as a strong advocate for women and girls, she is one behind the scenes too — she’s that friend who staunchly supports her friends’ dreams, is present even when she’s physically not present because she’s in Toronto filming, gives you her honest opinion even if it differs from yours and has the most kind heart.
“I have years’ worth of hand-written notes and cards that Meg has sent to me in the best of times, while I was going through hard times and also fun, saying hello, missing-you, motivational go-for-your-dreams cards.”
Lindsay also stated the actress lives by the motto “I choose happiness”, and it’s a phrase she’s kept with her for years.
She told People magazine: “There’s a motto that Meg and I have consistently come back to throughout the years: ‘I choose happiness. It’s a constant reminder to be self-aware, be uniquely you, be happy and to treat people with respect; to be kind, empathetic and to really learn from those around you in any circumstance. Meg does that.”

Prince William and Duchess Catherine to receive Tuvalu honour

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, are set to receive the highest award from the South Pacific island nation of Tuvalu for their visit in 2012.
The 34-year-old royal and his wife, 35, visited the Polynesian nation – made up of nine tiny islands – almost five years ago as part of the celebrations marking the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, and discussions are now underway for the pair to be awarded the Tuvalu Order of Merit at a special investiture in London.
Tuvalu’s honorary consul in London, Doctor Iftikhar Ayaz, said of the royals’ visit to the nation: “Whenever they have been reminded about it, they have expressed great affection and love for the country. They had a lovely time there. They will remember that visit for a very long time.”
Doctor Ayaz hopes the investiture ceremony will take place soon, and says he has written to the Queen’s private secretary to ask if he would present the pair with the honours.
He added to the Daily Express newspaper: “I have written to the Queen’s private secretary, Sir Christopher Geidt, asking if he will present the Duke and Duchess with the medals.”
According to the publication, Doctor Ayaz also explained the Tuvalu Order of Merit is the country’s highest award, and forms part of a new honours system set up last year to be independent from Britain’s twice-yearly awards which previously included people honoured in Tuvalu.
Meanwhile, during a state banquet in the nation in 2012, Prince William – who has three-year-old son Prince George and 22-month-old daughter Princess Charlotte with his wife – said their visit to the country had been full of “joy and happiness”.
He said: “Your wonderful welcome has to be the most original and quite literally uplifting ever, we will both remember it and the joy and happiness of what has followed for the rest of our lives.”
