Prince Charles praises Royal Mail staff

OHMYGOSSIP —  Prince Charles has thanked the Royal Mail for “defending” the written word in a world of “texting and social media apps”.

The Prince of Wales and his wife, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, attended a celebration of 500 years of the postal service at Merchant Taylor’s Hall in London yesterday (06.09.16), and he paid tribute to the work done by the 140,000 current staff, and past employees of the company.

In a speech, Charles said: “Ladies and Gentlemen, perhaps your greatest service is the way that Royal Mail, by its very existence, defends the written word. In these days of texting and various social media “apps”, the well-constructed sentence is under mortal threat! As someone who relies on the well-aimed letter – and relishes the ones in return! – I can only say how strongly I feel that the logical ordering of thoughts in proper, grammatically correct prose is in fact rather important at the end of the day.”

The 67-year-old royal also branded the postal service a “national treasure” on behalf of those who still write letters.

He added: “On behalf of letter-writers; of isolated communities; of the eager and expectant on Valentine’s and other equally special days; and, indeed, on behalf of dear old Santa Claus himself, I can only offer my heartfelt thanks and warmest congratulations on a job conspicuously well done by you all. You are, as they say, a national treasure.”

The Royal Mail was established in 1516 and now handles an incredible one billion parcels a year and 16 billion letters a year.

Pippa Middleton went for a walk with her mother on her 33rd birthday

OHMYGOSSIP —   The sister of Duchess Catherine was spotted out and about on a leafy central London street with their mother Carole Middleton, 61, as the brunette beauty saw in her latest milestone yesterday (06.09.16).

Pippa – who got engaged to James Matthews in July – looked in relaxed mood as she headed out with her mum on her special day.  While James was nowhere to be seen during the stroll, the happy couple are likely to have spent time with each other last night.

Her £200,000 engagement ring was certainly on show for their walk.  Pippa and James are expected to tie the knot next year, and Carole is said to have been the “mastermind” behind the hedge fund manager popping the question.

A source recently said: “This is something she has hoped for quite some time. She appears to be something of a mastermind in making this happen.” Before asking Pippa to marry him, James is said to have approached her father Michael Middleton, 67, and asked for his daughter’s hand in marriage in the traditional way.  A source said: “James is a traditionalist and very much wanted to do things properly. That meant getting his future father-in-law’s consent. Mike and Carole are very happy. They like James and they are sure he will make Pippa very happy.

“He worked very hard from an early age. He’s a smart chap but also the sort of bloke you would be proud to call a friend He made a huge amount of cash from hedge funds and some more from the London property market. We’re talking millions here and you don’t do that by the age of 40 unless you are a sharp cookie. And James is very bright.”

Britain’s Prince Andrew spent £5,000 on a helicopter ride to play golf

OHMYGOSSIP – Britain’s Prince Andrew spent £5,000 on a helicopter ride to play golf, the Daily Mail reports. The son of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth chartered the taxpayer-funded helicopter to take him and president of the World Bank Jim Yong Kim from Andrew’s home in Windsor Great Park to the Royal Cinque Ports Golf Club in Deal so they could play a round of golf on Sunday (03.07.16), the Daily Mail reports.

The publication adds that the aircraft is one of two for Royal Family travelling to official engagements.

However, Andrew had no other official engagements that day.

Meanwhile, it was claimed in March that Andrew “rammed open” a gate at Windsor Great Park to avoid a one-mile detour, causing considerable damage.

The incident is said to have happened when the 56-year-old royal drove down a road restricted by gates. When the sensors didn’t work, he allegedly smashed his £80,00 Range Rover into the gates to force them open.

A park worker told The Sun: “It was a crazy thing to do and we are jokingly calling it ‘ParkGate’. But seriously, he has a bit of a reputation for roaring around like Toad of Toad Hall and he seems to think he can do what he likes.

“The gate stops deer roaming and the Prince uses it as a short cut. For some reason the sensors didn’t work. Instead of going a mile out of his way, he just decided to ram it open.”
