Lady Gaga to meet Prince William in October

OHMYGOSSIP — Lady Gaga and Prince William have made plans to meet in October to discuss how they can tackle mental illness.
The ‘Million Reasons’ hitmaker has been invited by the 34-year-old royal to talk through the ways they can pull together to make depression and other mind-related ailments “normalised”.
In a FaceTime chat for William’s charity Heads Together – which he runs with brother Prince William and his wife Duchess Catherine – he said: “It would be great if, when you’re over here, we could meet and have a chat about how much more we could do to tackle this.”
And the 31-year-old singer agreed to come down to London when she is in the UK later this year.
She said: “I would love that. We have to make the strongest, most relentless attempt we can to normalise mental health issues so that people feel they can come forward.”
The pair used the video conferencing app to discuss their plans to fight the stigma against mental health and how important it is for sufferers to talk about their problems with others.
In the clip shared on Kensington Palace’s Twitter account, Gaga – who has openly discussed her battle with depression over the years – said: “Hello Prince William!
I am so grateful to speak to you. I’m a very big fan of what you’ve done with Heads Together .. It reminded me how much my mental health changing changed my life.”
William replied: “Hello, Lady Gaga! Harry, Catherine and I felt this was an important area.
“Throughout all our charity work from veterans to homelessness, addiction, most of it seemed to to stem from mental health issues.”
It comes after Prince Harry opened up about almost having a “complete” breakdown when his mother Princess Diana died.
The 32-year-old royal was just 12 years old when he lost his parent in 1997 – after she was tragically killed in a car crash in Paris, France, at the age of 36 – and has admitted he “shut down all his emotions” as he grew up determined not to think about the loss.
He said: “I can safely say that losing my mum at the age of 12, and therefore shutting down all of my emotions for the last 20 years, has had a quite serious effect on not only my personal life but my work as well.
“I have probably been very close to a complete breakdown on numerous occasions when all sorts of grief and sort of lies and misconceptions and everything are coming to you from every angle.”

Prince William to bring up kids to talk about feelings

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince William wants his children to be brought up “able to talk about their emotions and feelings”.
The 34-year-old royal has shared his thoughts on mental health in young people and how important it is for them to express how they are feeling in “difficult” situations, and he hopes that is something his three-year-old son Prince George and 23-month-old daughter Princess Charlotte – whom he has with his wife Duchess Catherine – can practice.
In an interview with mental health charity magazine CALMzine, William – who is campaigning to end the stigma surrounding mental health through his charity Heads Together, which he spearheads alongside Harry and Catherine – said: “Catherine and I are clear we want both George and Charlotte to grow up feeling able to talk about their emotions and feelings.
“Over the past year we have visited a number of schools together where we have been amazed listening to children talk about some quite difficult subjects in a clear and emotionally articulate way, something most adults would struggle with.
“Seeing this has really given me hope things are changing and there is a generation coming up who find it normal to talk openly about emotions.”
William says that British people should drop their “stiff upper lip” when it comes to health.
He added: “There may be a time and a place for the ‘stiff upper lip’, but not at the expense of your health.”
William’s comments come after his younger brother, Prince Harry, revealed he almost suffered a “complete breakdown” when their mother Princess Diana died 20 years ago.
The 32-year-old royal was just 12 years old when he lost his parent in 1997 – after she was tragically killed in a car crash in Paris, France, at the age of 36 – and has admitted he “shut down all his emotions” as he grew up determined not to think about the loss.

Prince Harry came close to breakdown after Princess Diana's death

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Harry almost suffered a “complete breakdown” when his mother Princess Diana died 20 years ago.
And the 26-year-old royal admits he has been in therapy “more than a couple of times” in order to help him deal with his grief, and later turned to boxing as a way to vent his frustrations.
He added: “During those years I took up boxing, because everyone was saying boxing is good for you and it’s a really good way of letting out aggression. And that really saved me because I was on the verge of punching someone, so being able to punch someone who had pads was certainly easier.”
Harry refused to talk about his grief at first as he knew it wouldn’t bring Diana back, but after two years of “total chaos” he started to open up and felt better for doing so.
He said: “My way of dealing with it was sticking my head in the sand, refusing to ever think about my mum, because why would that help? [I thought] it’s only going to make you sad, it’s not going to bring her back.
“So from an emotional side, I was like ‘right, don’t ever let your emotions be part of anything’. So I was a typical 20, 25, 28-year-old running around going ‘life is great’, or ‘life is fine’ and that was exactly it.
“And then [I] started to have a few conversations and actually all of a sudden, all of this grief that I have never processed started to come to the forefront and I was like, there is actually a lot of stuff here that I need to deal with.”
Harry – whose father is Prince Charles – credits his 34-year-old brother Prince William with being a “huge support”.
He said: “It’s all about timing. And for me personally, my brother, you know, bless him, he was a huge support to me. He kept saying this is not right, this is not normal, you need to talk to [someone] about stuff, it’s OK.”
The flame-haired hunk – who is dating Meghan Markle – is now campaigning to end the stigma surrounding mental health through his charity Heads Together – which he spearheads alongside William and his wife the Duchess of Cambridge – as he hopes to “make a difference to everybody else”.
He told The Daily Telegraph newspaper: “Because of the process I have been through over the past two and a half years, I’ve now been able to take my work seriously, been able to take my private life seriously as well, and been able to put blood, sweat and tears into the things that really make a difference and things that I think will make a difference to everybody else.”

Princess Charlene of Monaco honoured with stamps

OHMYGOSSIP — Princess Charlene of Monaco has been honoured on two new postage stamps.
The former Olympic swimmer – who is married to Prince Albert II of Monaco – will now be seen on two new postage stamps released by the Monaco Stamp Office in commemoration of five years since she set up the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation, which helps teach young people to swim and get engaged in sporting activities.
The stamps – with a face value 0,71 € and 0,85 € – show the 39-year-old royal in a swimming pool as she teaches children the importance of water safety. In one stamp, she is seen helping a young swimmer in the water, and in the other she is embracing two students in a warm hug.
Charlene set up the foundation in 2012, five years after she stopped competitively swimming in 2007. The objective for the foundation was to raise public awareness to the danger of water by teaching children how to swim while also teaching preventive water safety measures.
It isn’t the first time the blonde beauty has been honoured with a postage stamp either, as in 2015 she was featured on two stamps issued by Monaco’s Office des Timbres.
Designed by Stefanie Van Zyl and engraved by Elsa Catelin, the 1,60€ stamp will feature a portrait of Charlene – who represented South Africa in the Olympics – with a bouquet of proteas, the national flower of South Africa in the background
The 0,68€ stamp contains a picture of a rose named after the princess and created by Meilland International.
The Office des Timbres said at the time: “The luxuriant rose blooms with a beautiful display of pastel shades, and its pale pink flowers, with their delicately sweet scent, each have around 68 petals.”
Meanwhile Prince Albert II – who has two-year-old twins Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella with his wife – recently praised Charlene for growing into her royal role since they tied the knot in 2011.
He said: “It’s more an ongoing process, getting her more familiarised with the people of Monaco, the institutional side, to give her a better understanding of how things work.
“In the past, I haven’t always had as much time as I’d like to devote to that because I’ve been travelling and she has work with her foundation, and I didn’t want to throw too much at her at once.
“I know that it was an issue. People felt they didn’t see enough of her in Monaco. And she wants to and will do more of that, but she’s wanted to be as involved as she can in raising the children.”

Prince Harry, Prince William, and Duchess Catherine to appear in BBC documentary

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Harry, Prince William, and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, are set to appear in a BBC documentary about runners competing in the London Marathon.
The royal trio are the founders of the charity Heads Together – which has been named as the chosen charity for the Virgin London Marathon on April 23 – and will appear in a BBC documentary entitled ‘Mind Over Marathon’ later this month as they support 10 runners who are taking part in the race on behalf of their cause.
Heads Together is a charity which aims to end the stigma surrounding mental health, and the 10 runners featured in the documentary are all people who suffer with mental health problems themselves.
In a promotional video for the two-part documentary – which is set to air three days before the marathon on April 20 – 35-year-old Duchess Catherine can be heard telling the group: “You are all heroes.”
The news of the documentary comes after Prince Harry, 32, recently released a video in which he said he, his 34-year-old brother William, and his sister-in-law Catherine would be cheering on the runners at the marathon.
He said in a lengthy speech: “You’ve been training for months and the start line to the 2017 Virgin Money London Marathon is finally within sight. I’m sure it will be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life.
“William, Katherine and I will be there to cheer you all on. We’re really excited that Head’s Together is the chosen charity for this year’s marathon. We want to use this moment to end the stigma that stops people talking and change the conversation about mental health for good. You can make it the mental health marathon.
“We know that many of you will be running for some incredible charities because you have been directly affected by life-changing issues. You’ll recognise the emotional impact these can have and how talking about it openly can help. We all have mental health just as we all have physical health, and you can all play your part in the biggest movement in mental health.
“Whatever cause you are running for, wear your vest with pride and please wear your Heads Together headband. When we work together we can achieve great things. Good luck, see you at the finish line.”
‘Mind Over Marathon’ airs on BBC One on April 20, ahead of the Virgin London Marathon on April 23.

Queen Elizabeth is disciplined with food

OHMYGOSSIP — Queen Elizabeth is reportedly “very disciplined” when it comes to food.
The 90-year-old monarch may be able to eat just about anything she wants to, but her former chef Darren McGrady has said the royal likes to keep things simple when it comes to meals, and doesn’t often eat starch based foods.
He said: “One [thing] is that she’s very disciplined. For lunch, it would probably be something like grilled fish with some salad. She wouldn’t have potatoes. Or when she’s on her own for lunch, she doesn’t have the starch. She just does the protein and the salad.”
And Darren also claimed the Queen is very frugal when it comes to food and recalled one instance when a chef reportedly sent a whole lemon as a garnish to a dish, claiming that the Queen sent it back down to be used in a future dish so as not to waste it.
But Queen Elizabeth’s discipline reportedly doesn’t extend to sweet snacks, as Darren claims the monarch is a chocoholic.
He told Women’s Wear Daily magazine: “She loved chocolate so much, she’d give it up for Lent.”
It isn’t the first time Darren has spoken about the Queen’s sweet tooth either, as he previously claimed she was addicted to his chocolate biscuit cake.
He said: “Now the chocolate biscuit cake is the only cake that goes back again and again and again everyday until it’s all gone.
“She’ll take a small slice every day until eventually there is only one tiny piece, but you have to send that up, she wants to finish the whole of that cake.”
And he also once dubbed the monarch as a “major chocoholic”.
He claimed: “The queen is a major chocoholic, particularly dark chocolate, so she always has a chocolate treat on Christmas. She also loves mint.”

Princess Diana's memorial garden to be filled with her favourite flowers

OHMYGOSSIP — Princess Diana’s garden at Kensington Palace is to be filled with her favourite flowers.
The late royal tragically lost her life when she was involved in a car crash in Paris, France, in 1997, and to mark 20 years since her death, royal gardeners are putting together a display of her favourite flowers including forget-me-nots given to her by her brother.
The gardeners reportedly spoke to friends and family of the late Princess for the commemorative display, which is now open at the former home of the royal where her sons Prince William – along with his wife Duchess Catherine and children Prince George, three, and Princess Charlotte, 23 months – and Prince Harry now live.
Graham Dillamore, who was head gardener of Kensington Palace’s memorial garden from 1984 to 1992, told the Daily Telegraph newspaper of Princess Diana: “She was incredibly flattering and complimentary about the work that we did.
“I think she appreciated the hard work we put in, she was more worried about us out in the cold and asking are we wrapped up.
“She loved the colours and the brightness [of the garden] … She would ask how we came about picking the colours and getting the colour scheme so we would discuss that.
“She never confessed to being a fantastic gardener, but there were certain colours she liked in the garden – soft pinks, whites, yellow, pastel shades. She used to turn her nose up if I ever put red or deep purple flowers.”
The gardens, which are currently open to the public, reportedly weren’t due to bloom until May, but thanks to warm weather over the weekend they have been able to open the memorial early.
A palace spokeswoman said: “It’s bloomed somewhat earlier than we were expecting because of the hot weather. Gardens are always slightly unpredictable but it’s in full bloom. It looks amazing.”
The memorial gardens are located at Kensington Palace, and are open and free to the public.

Queen Elizabeth opens Elephant Care Centre at Whipsnade Zoo

OHMYGOSSIP — Queen Elizabeth has opened a new Elephant Care Centre at Whipsnade Zoo.
The 90-year-old royal was accompanied by her husband Prince Philip to the zoo in Bedfordshire on Tuesday (12.04.17) where they opened the new care centre for the endangered Asian elephants.
The royal couple started the day by meeting the zookeepers and architects responsible for the new facility, which stretches out to 30 acres of rolling paddocks.
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip then got the chance to feed a banana to one of the nine elephants owned by the zoo, in a moment showcased in a video posted by the Royal Family Twitter account.
The video was captioned: “Her Majesty and The Duke get the chance to hand feed one of the elephants a delicious banana.”
Another tweet from the account showed a picture of the two royals looking at the elephants – which have become an endangered species in the wild due to habitat loss, human conflict, and poaching – in the indoor part of the enclosure.
The tweet read: “The Centre is home to a herd of nine Asian elephants and is set in 30 acres of land, including baby Elizabeth – named after Her Majesty.”
Queen Elizabeth’s visit to the centre comes as it was recently reported she would be opening a controversial ivory exhibition at her Sandringham estate.
Most of the items in the collection were gifted to the royal family by Indian nobility in the 19th and early 20th century, before the use and trade of ivory – which is traditionally made from the tusks of elephants – became controversial due to its contribution to the severely declining elephant population.
However, the exhibition is likely to cause upset amongst the royal family, as the monarch’s grandson Prince William has long since been a campaigner for the ban of ivory trade.
The 34-year-old Prince previously spoke out about the vicious slaughter of elephants for their tusks after visiting a sanctuary for the animals in China in 2015.
He said at the time: “Ending demand for ivory is down to citizens across the world.
“No tradition or fashion is worth the extinction of an entire species, and no criminal gang should be allowed to destroy any part of nature.
“I am sure there are millions of people who share this conviction.
“It is appalling that elephants – and many others – may be extinct in the wild in our lifetimes, and that we seem to be hurtling towards that tragic outcome.
“The extinction of animals such as elephants, rhinos and pangolins would be an immeasurable loss to the whole of humanity.”

Stephen Fry talks mental health in Heads Together video

OHMYGOSSIP — Stephen Fry has teamed up with Heads Together in a candid video about mental heath.
The 59-year-old comedian joined forces with the charity – which was set up by Prince Harry, Prince William, and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge – to support a new campaign spearheaded by the royals to tackle the stigma surrounding mental health.
Stephen – who has previously spoken about his bipolar disorder diagnoses – is seen in the video talking to a psychiatrist, where he says that “talking” about his mental health was a pivotal part of his “healing” process.
He said: “It was very difficult but it was ultimately the healing thing. Talking was really a very strong part of the healing.”
To which his psychiatrist Doctor William Shanahan said: “Most people aren’t very good at opening up and I think we have to, I certainly have to, to get people to feel that this is going to be a comfortable and helpful time for them. One conversation can make all the difference.”
The video comes as part of a series put together by Heads Together which aims to encourage others to voice their struggles after a poll released by the campaign found that men are less likely to talk about their mental health than women are.
Other stars involved in the series – called #oktosay – include model Adwoa Aboah, Rio Ferdinand and Ruby Wax.
One clip sees Adwoa and her mother discuss her attempted suicide and how she managed to beat her battle against depression and gain control of her bipolar disorder.
Another sees former soccer player Ferdinand talk to his agent about how he dealt with the tragic passing of his wife Rebecca Ellison, who died of breast cancer in 2015.
While another clip is based on Ruby as she discusses with her husband about struggling with mental illness and what others around those suffering can do to help them.

Prince Charles visits flood damaged town

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Charles has visited the town of Appleby-in-Westmorland which was devastated by flooding in 2015.
The 68-year-old royal made the trip to the Cumbrian town which felt the full force of Storm Desmond two years ago when it was hit with more than 13 inches of rainfall in 24 hours, leading to the flooding of 176 properties and leaving large parts of the town without electricity.
Prince Charles previously visited the town in 2015 just two weeks after the events of the storm, and on Tuesday (11.04.17) he retraced his steps across St Lawrence’s Bridge, which runs over the River Eden.
Speaking to Nick Raymond, a senior manager at Cumbria County Council, the royal asked how resilient the river was to flooding now, and was told the whilst repairs are still ongoing, river level monitoring equipment is now being installed.
Nick said: “When this bridge reopened nine days after the flood it was an iconic moment. It was one of 49 bridges that had to close and 557 that were damaged, so this symbolised that Cumbria had reconnected again.”
And Nick also revealed the council were struggling to find funding to repair the damaged bridges.
He added: “The Prince asked whether we had enough money and I said ‘No, we could always do with a bit more’.
“We are not just doing like-for-like replacement and we are offering some resilience but the funding won’t go anywhere near enough.
“He seemed genuinely concerned about the people of Cumbria. He has got an affinity for the county.”
During his first visit to Appleby, Charles met with flooding victims Mr and Mrs Potts, and met up with the pair again during his visit on Tuesday.
Mr Potts said: “He was very concerned when he came last time and was keen to know how we had come on. We are doing OK but we are a long way off being where we were before the floods.
“We will have to work at it, won’t we? You get nothing easy in life but you keep going and hopefully we will get the result we want – Appleby up and running. That is what we are all aiming for.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince William and Prince Harry are set to give out a new award in memory of their late mother Princess Diana.
The royal brothers tragically lost their mother in 1997 when she was involved in a fatal car crash in Paris, France, and they are now set to award 20 people with a new Legacy Award in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of her passing.
William, 34, and 32-year-old Harry will bestow the honours on behalf of the Diana Award – a charity set up in memory of the late Princess in 1999 – at a special ceremony at St James’s Palace on May 18.
Tessy Ojo, chief executive of the Diana Award, said in a statement: “Princess Diana is widely remembered for her values of compassion, kindness and service to others, irrespective of their culture, race or background.
“Twenty years on, we are delighted that both her sons – The Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry – will be presenting this unique and prestigious Legacy Award to our future leaders at St James’s Palace in London on May 18.”
The inaugural Legacy Award is just one of many events the Diana Award is putting on this year in memory of the late royal, including a National Kindness Day which was celebrated last month.
Tessy said at the time: “What’s 2017 all about? It’s about celebrating the legacy of Princess Diana, 20 years on. Prince Charles' tour of Columbia

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Charles kicked off the final day of his two-day tour of Cumbria on Tuesday (11.04.17).
The 68-year-old royal – the eldest son of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip – has only just returned from his tour of Europe with his wife Duchess Camilla but there’s certainly no time to rest as he’s now in North West England visiting the tour of Appleby to see how they have recovered following the horrific flooding the residents experienced there in 2015.
As well as speaking to the locals, the prince will also tour Appleby Creamery, a cheese firm, which is partnering with local farmers and small producers to support the rural economy.
Although today is a busy day, Charles didn’t stop yesterday either as he arrived in Whitehaven to open the new Whitehaven Foyer, a charity providing accommodation to young people.
He was then treated to a preview of the Rosehill Theatre ahead of it’s opening in May.
Meanwhile, last weekend, Charles and his sons Prince William and Harry travelled to the Canadian National Vimy Memorial near Lille in northern France on Sunday (09.04.17) to commemorate the 100th anniversary since capture of Vimy Ridge during the First World War.
The Battle of Vimy Ridge took place over four days in 1917, and resulted in around 3,500 Canadian soldiers losing their lives, whilst another 10,000 were left wounded. The battle is regarded as Canada’s most notable military victory and a symbol of the birth of the country’s national pride.
Prince Charles told around 25,000 Canadians who had gathered at the ceremony that although the battle marked the “bloodiest day” in Canadian history, it also showcased the country “at it’s best.”

Queen Elizabeth's shoe servants

OHMYGOSSIP — Queen Elizabeth reportedly makes her servant stretch her new shoes for her.
The 90-year-old royal never suffers from painful blisters on her feet because she has a member of staff who breaks in her black low heels, which cost around £1,000 from Anello & Davide, so that she can go about her duties without sore trotters.
Designer and long-time royal dressmaker Stewart Parvin is quoted by the Daily Mirror newspaper as saying: “The shoes have to be immediately comfortable … she does get someone to wear them. The Queen can never say ‘I’m uncomfortable, I can’t walk any more. She has the right to have someone wear them in.”
However, there are some strict guidelines her shoe servant has to follow as she’s only allowed to walk up and down corridors with carpet and has to wear socks.
The heels are also given one trial run outside after they’ve been made by Anello & Davide to ensure their durability in all weather conditions and have a decent grip.
Meanwhile, it’s not just her shoes she demands as the monarch also likes to travel with chocolate biscuit cake whenever she leaves her home.
Chef Darren McGrady said previously: “Now the chocolate biscuit cake is the only cake that goes back again and again and again everyday until it’s all gone.
“She’ll take a small slice every day until eventually there is only one tiny piece, but you have to send that up, she wants to finish the whole of that cake.”

Prince William and Prince Harry to honour their mother in TV tribute

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince William and Prince Harry will honour their late mother Princess Diana with two televised tributes.
The royal brothers have reportedly commissioned two TV programmes to mark the 20th anniversary of their mother’s death, after the Princess was tragically killed in a car crash in Paris, France, in 1997.
According to the Daily Express newspaper, William, 34, and 32-year-old Harry will pay personal tributes to their mother in the documentaries which are set to be aired by the BBC and ITV in the UK later this year, where they will also share their memories of the days immediately following Diana’s death and the national outpouring of grief.
A royal source told the publication: “The Duke and Prince Harry have selected close friends and family members to speak about Diana and some will be speaking about her publicly for the first time.”
The ITV documentary, which is set to air in July, will focus on Diana’s legacy and achievements with her charity work, whilst the BBC film – which is scheduled for August – will look back at the national and global reaction to her death.
Meanwhile, Prince Harry – who was just 12 years old at the time of Diana’s passing – recently gave an impassioned speech about his mother when he continued her work protesting against the use of land mines at a conference in aid of International Mine Awareness Day last week.
Before making his speech, Harry introduced two men – named Malic and Žarko – to the audience, and revealed they had both met Princess Diana as young boys after they both lost legs to land mines in Bosnia.
Prince Harry said in his speech: “She shared their stories with the world, and helped campaigners – many of whom are in this room – to change history.
“Those two young boys, Malic and Žarko, are now grown men and are with us today. 20 years on, they both still struggle with their physical and emotional injuries and with the high costs of replacing their prosthetics.
“When my mother said goodbye to Žarko that August, just weeks before her untimely death, she told him he would not be forgotten.
“Please help me keep her word to Žarko and Malic, and other people like them throughout the world, who still need us to finish the job and rid the planet of landmines.
“Collectively we have the knowledge, skill, and resources to achieve it, so let’s make future generations proud.”
