Prince Charles meets goat

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Charles met a goat on Tuesday (11.07.17) as he continued his tour of Wales.
The Prince of Wales met with the Royal Welsh’s regimental goat, Shenkin III, and Goat Major Sergeant Mark Jackson at the Regimental Museum of The Royal Welsh.
Asked what the goat likes to eat by the royal, Sgt Jackson revealed: “Savoy cabbage and cheese and onion crisps.”
Following a tour of the museum by retired Colonel Timothy Van-Rees, who is also executive chair of trustees, Prince Charles met with Elliot Ngubane, a Zulu warrior.
Ngubane – who was dressed in traditional attire – works for Sibanye, who are responsible for organising Zulu War reenactments between South Africa and the UK.
He said: “[The Prince was] absolutely interested … It is a history that we want the young people to know about not just to be like animals who don’t know where they come from.”
Elsewhere on his Welsh tour, Prince Charles called for there to be a bigger priority put on tackling “terrifying environmental issues”.
Speaking at a sustainability conference in Llandovery College, Carmarthenshire, he said: “This is not backward-looking and anti-science, it is reinstating the discarded baby that was rashly removed with the bath water …
“This is why I find it so unbelievable when people ask why we should bother with the conservation and protection of the Earth’s dwindling biodiversity, or why we should strive to make the terrifying environmental issues we now face such a priority. It is, of course, the diversity of life on Earth which actually enables us to have our being.
“Deplete it, reduce it, erode and destroy it and we will succeed in causing such disorder that we risk derailing humanity’s place on Earth for good. This is why I have been trying to say for so long that we have to look urgently at what will restore nature’s balance before it is finally too late – and that moment, I hate to say, is upon us.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince William shared a joke with an RAF veteran as he attended the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.
The 35-year-old royal chatted with veterans at the event at RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire to mark the 60th anniversary of the BBMF.
Veteran pilot Rusty Waughman spoke to the Duke of Cambridge and shared: “He was so easy to talk to, so pleasant. Being here brings back so many memories.”
Maurice Snowball, 95, who was a Lancaster flight engineer, also had a chance to speak to the Prince and added: “He sat on the chair next to me and I said I hope you don’t mind sitting there as I can only hear with my right ear, so you’re on my right side.
“He said that’s all right. He asked me how I got on flying and I said I enjoyed it, it was a good crew that we were in.”I said the best memory I’ve got was the Operation Manna food drops and I told him about that.”
During the event, there was an air display, which featured a Lancaster, three Spitfires and a Hurricane all flown by serving RAF aircrew.
Group Captain Mike Baulkwill and Squadron Leader Andrew Millikin were also on hand to give speeches, where they spoke about the significance of the anniversary.

Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie catch up with their mother over dinner

OHMYGOSSIP — Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie joined their mother for a catch up over dinner.
The royal sisters met with their mother Sarah, Duchess of York, for a dinner at Mayfair’s Chucs restaurant on Wednesday (26.04.17), where they caught up following a busy month for both of the young royals.
Sarah was spotted leaving the lavish restaurant at around 11pm according to the Daily Mail newspaper, and the night proved a busy one for 28-year-old Beatrice who had previously been snapped at a VIP dinner celebrating the launch of the Mrs Alice footwear range for French Sole before heading to the family meal.
The trio no doubt had a lot to catch up on as Eugenie, 27, was recently promoted to the title of director at the Hauser & Wirth art gallery where she works in London, after having previously been the associate director for two years.
A friend of the royal said at the time: “Eugenie is working hard and doing a good job. The promotion is well deserved.”
Meanwhile Beatrice recently spoke about her work with charity Big Change, which helps support young entrepreneurs and pushes for educational reform, and said she wants to “educate people” to be the “best they can be”.
She revealed: “I also have a foundation called Big Change, which works on education reform and supports entrepreneurs as well. I think we are now living in a period where we need 21st-century education to support technology requirements, and we need to focus on getting young people the tools necessary in order to succeed.
“I think that what’s really exciting is that there’s no road map, really. You have so many people innovating – and I’m not just talking about disruptive technologies. Right now, I think there’s really a chance to take everything that we’ve learned and educate people to make them be the best that they can be.”

Prince Albert gives George Clooney parenting tips

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Albert of Monaco has shared parenting tips for George Clooney.
The ‘Oceans Eleven’ actor is due to welcome twins with his wife Amal later this year, and the 59-year-old royal – who has two-year-old twins Princess Gabriella and Prince Jacques with his wife Princess Charlene – has revealed the secret to successfully parenting twins is to have “a good cup of coffee”.
He said: “Strong coffee and easy reading. George should pour himself a good cup of coffee each morning. I know that sounds pretty standard but it’s really, really important.”
And Prince Albert also recommends the father-to-be reads up on his role before the birth, citing Joe Rawlinson’s ‘A Dad’s Guide To Twins’ as “really helpful” reading material.
He added: “There’s actually a very good little book on being the father of twins. [The book] was really helpful. It has some sound advice and is pretty easy to read.”
The Prince went on to highlight the importance of sleep, and says that even two years on from their birth, there are still nights when his twins keep him awake.
He said: “[George should get] some sleep stored away before the babies are born.
“Fortunately for Charlene and for me, that was never really an issue. Gabriella and Jacques were relatively good sleepers from the start. Of course, there were – still are – nights where they have to be in the bedroom with us.
“I know it seems very common sense, but having a separate room – in our case a nursery – or even a separate area prepared makes it easier for both parents to get some sleep in turns.”
And Albert insists he had no difficulty telling his children apart when they were younger, and says it’s “less of an issue” than people might think.
He told People magazine: “That’s actually less of an issue than you might think. They’re different from one another, they move differently — and in our case, Jacques was much smaller than his sister when they were born, it was pretty easy to pick him out.”

Queen Elizabeth: My grandson is obsessed with cars

OHMYGOSSIP — Queen Elizabeth’s grandson James is obsessed with cars.
The 91-year-old monarch has revealed her nine-year-old grandson James, Viscount Severn – who is the son of Prince Edward and Sophie, Countess of Wessex – does “nothing else” but attempt to drive the vehicles, despite his young age.
Speaking to a family at an event for the Motability scheme held at Windsor Castle, the Queen said: “My grandson is nine and he does nothing else but try to drive a car.”
The royal spoke to the family as part of her celebrations marking the 40th anniversary of the Motability scheme which provides much needed adaptations to vehicles for disabled drivers.
Since the scheme’s conception, Motability has helped put an estimated 4.5 million vehicles on the roads and pavements, and those who met the monarch at the celebration hailed the scheme as an essential service in helping them get behind the wheel when they would be otherwise unable to do so.
Former Royal Marine Paul Barrett – who lost his right leg and use of most of his right arm when he was caught in the blast from an IED whilst serving in Iraq – said the scheme had helped him become “independent again”.
Paul – who attended the ceremony with his wife Nova and their two children Ria, 14, and eight-year-old Isaac – said: “The Motability scheme has made me independent again, it’s maximised my self esteem and my self confidence and it’s provided me a way of becoming a father again.
“I’ve had a lot taken away from me in being an amputee but I’m now – in case of an emergency or in case someone’s needed to go to the shops – my own person.”
At the ceremony, five drivers received a ceremonial key fob for their new cars and vans from the Queen, who is the royal patrol of the scheme set up by Lord Sterling and the late Lord Goodman in 1977.

Princess Beatrice wants to help 'educate' young people to use technology

OHMYGOSSIP — Princess Beatrice wants to “educate people” to be the “best they can be”.
The 28-year-old royal runs the foundation Big Change which helps support young entrepreneurs and pushes for educational reform, and has said she wants to help train young people in gaining the right “technology requirements” to help them succeed in later life.
She said: “I also have a foundation called Big Change, which works on education reform and supports entrepreneurs as well. I think we are now living in a period where we need 21st-century education to support technology requirements, and we need to focus on getting young people the tools necessary in order to succeed.
“I think that what’s really exciting is that there’s no road map, really. You have so many people innovating–and I’m not just talking about disruptive technologies. Right now, I think there’s really a chance to take everything that we’ve learned and educate people to make them be the best that they can be.”
And Beatrice – who is the elder daughter of Prince Andrew – has also spoken about the need to “empower” young people, something which she says motivates her to keep up her work with her foundation.
She added to Vogue magazine: “You have to make it okay to empower young people, and say you have the support, the backing, the ear, and the platform in order to make that change. And I find that incredibly motivating.”
Meanwhile, in September, Beatrice took part in a triathlon for Big Change which saw her swim two miles, cycle 70 miles and hike more than 20 miles up Mount Etna.
She said after the event: “I loved every second … We wanted to do something that was about bringing people together but about asking slightly hard questions about how we can make the biggest change, not just looking at causes, but actually looking at how we can really make a sustainable difference to the lives of young people.”

Crown Princess Victoria preparing children for royal engagements

OHMYGOSSIP — Crown Princess Victoria is already preparing her children for their own royal engagements.
The 39-year-old Swedish royal has two children – five-year-old Princess Estelle and 13-month-old Prince Oscar – with her husband Prince Daniel, and has said she always discusses her royal travels with her children despite their young age, in order to prepare them for when they’ll need to fulfil their own royal engagements.
During a visit to Japan, Victoria said: “Estelle knows that I’m here and [am talking about] fishing, and then we talk about Japan, fisheries, nature and ecology and how things fit together. She is five-years-old, but she’s not too young. On the contrary, she was very interested and receptive. I think we have an obligation as parents and adults to stimulate curiosity.”
And Victoria says her parents, Queen Silvia of Sweden and Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, did the same thing for her when she was a child, and credits the open discussion with helping her to form a “natural attitude” toward royal duties.
She added to Swedish news outlet Svenskdam: “I think my parents made it very good and educational. They started very often from their travels and their visits in order to speak about Sweden and also in order to speak about the weight to lead forward with Sweden, Swedish valuations, Swedish research and technology. In this way, it becomes, of course, a natural attitude to what the role of such means but also what you are able to assist with.”

Princess Charlene of Monaco raises water safety awareness in South Africa

OHMYGOSSIP — Princess Charlene of Monaco has returned to South Africa in aid of her charitable Foundation.
The 39-year-old former Olympic swimmer – who is the wife of Prince Albert of Monaco – has visited the country where she was raised as part of her work with the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation, which aims to raise awareness for water safety and teach children how to swim.
Speaking on behalf of her Foundation at an event in aid of water safety and drowning prevention, Charlene said: “Here in South Africa, drowning is the second leading cause of accidental death after road accidents. We can save so many lives, simply by teaching people essential water safety skills and how to swim and by focusing on one person, one family, one community at a time.”
During her trip to South Africa the Princess – who is mother to two-year-old twins Princess Gabriella and Prince Jacques – visited Gugulesizwe Primary School and supervised a first aid and CPR training session for the teachers and the children as part of her role as patron of the South African Red Cross.
Also during her visit, Charlene attended the inaugural ‘Princess Charlene Ladies Day’, a charity race day created to support three organisations – the Red Cross, Gugulisizwe Primary School and the Highveld Horse Care Unit.
Charlene’s visit to South Africa comes after she recently revealed she “can’t wait” to bring her two young children to the country to teach them about their “heritage”.
She said: “I am African and this is my heritage. It will always be. It’s in my heart and in my veins. I can’t wait for them to come here. I can’t wait for them to be introduced to Africa.”
Previously, Charlene said she was focused on raising her children and educating them on the “responsibility” of royal life.
She said: “For now, I’m a full time mum. I don’t know how long that will be for. But yes, it is quite a difficult situation in comparison to the normal folk. We do have responsibilities and duties, and of course my son and my daughter are born into our responsibility. So it’s quite something for me to accept that and to educate them.”

Residents angry at Kensington Palace basement plans

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, have reportedly angered neighbours with their plans for a double basement at Kensington Palace.
The royal couple – who have three-year-old son Prince George and 23-month-old daughter Princess Charlotte together – plan to bring their staff with them when they move into the famous palace from their Norfolk home later this year, but plans to build a £24 million “mega-basement” under the Grade I-listed Orangery have caused upset amongst locals who say the royals are breaching planning regulations.
In 2014, the council for the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea banned the construction of double basements after millionaire home owners sent in a large number of planning applications.
Residents in the borough are now claiming the rules should apply to everyone, and the royals’ proposed plans – which would provide office space for employees of Historic Royal Palaces, who currently work in Kensington Palace but are moving out to make way for the couple’s personal staff – should not be an exception.
Donald Cameron, a 65-year-old retired telecoms executive, told the Daily Telegraph newspaper: “This is an historic building and should not be disturbed. There can be no justification for a double basement. The Orangery is a central feature of the park which should be maintained as a peaceful facility for Londoners.
“The planning department seems to have been bedazzled by courtiers when giving pre-application advice.”
Neighbour Marion Gettleson added: “The Orangery has long been a much loved and visited feature of a famous architectural and historical grouping.
“As such, the property should be respected and left alone. The disturbance caused by the excavations etc will cause considerable harm to the surrounding area for a long time.
“While somewhat less venerable, the immediate neighbourhood is also of great architectural, historical and political significance.
“It is very much hoped that other arrangement will be made for the proposed uses for a new basement on this site.”
Kensington Palace submitted the plans for the basement last month, and in an application stated the build was “required” in order to make room for the royal couple’s staff.
The planning permission application read: “The addition of a basement storey is required to allow for the accommodation of administration which must necessarily be moved out of rooms leased from the Royal Household in Kensington Palace.”

Pippa Middleton's wedding could be open to the public

OHMYGOSSIP — Members of the public could go to Pippa Middleton’s wedding according to Church of England guidelines.
The 33-year-old sister of Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, is set to tie the knot with her fiancé James Matthews next month, and according to recently published guidelines on “celebrity marriages”, members of the public are reportedly “entitled” to attend the lavish ceremony.
Guidelines state that all “parishioners” should be able to go to the ceremony, meaning that anyone living in the village of Englefield – where Pippa and James are thought to be getting hitched at St Mark’s Church – could be admitted to the venue on the big day.
According to guidelines obtained by the Daily Telegraph newspaper: “A marriage is a public ceremony which at the least all parishioners are entitled to attend, as long as there is available seating or standing room unless a genuine question of safety or security arises.”
And Stephen Borton, the chief clerk of the faculty office of the Archbishop of Canterbury, told the publication the public have the “absolute right” to attend the service.
He said: “The document is pretty clear. Parishioners and those on the electoral roll have the absolute right to attend services of public worship, and they can’t be denied access. Marriages are not a private event, they are public.
“It is a parish church and if any of the parishioners or any of those on the electoral roll wished to attend, they could not legally be refused. That of course does not extend to those from outside, such as the press.
“Some people will no doubt want to wish the couple well, especially those Englefield parishioners who knew the Middleton family from when they lived in the area. Kate went to Brownies here and there are still people in the area who remember her.”
The wedding is due to take place on May 20, and royals including Duchess Catherine, Prince William, and their two children Prince George and Princess Charlotte are expected to attend.

Queen Elizabeth marks 40th anniversary of Motability scheme

OHMYGOSSIP — Queen Elizabeth has marked the 40th anniversary of a mobility scheme.
The 91-year-old monarch hosted a ceremony at Windsor Castle on Tuesday (25.04.17) for the Motability scheme which provides much needed adaptations to vehicles for disabled drivers.
At the ceremony, five drivers received a ceremonial key fob for their new cars and vans from the Queen, who is the royal patrol of the scheme set up by Lord Sterling and the late Lord Goodman in 1977.

“I’ve had a lot taken away from me in being an amputee but I’m now – in case of an emergency or in case someone’s needed to go to the shops – my own person.”
Meanwhile, the Queen also sent a message to the Motability scheme, praising it for “enriching” the lives of disabled drivers.
She said: “I congratulate Motability not only on reaching its 40th anniversary, but also during this time, how it has changed and enriched the lives of millions of disabled people, their families and friends by helping them to access a world of increased mobility and freedom.”

Meghan Markle helps Prince Harry ‘open up’

OHMYGOSSIP — Meghan Markle helped Prince Harry “open up” about his feelings.
The 32-year-old royal revealed earlier this month that he had almost suffered a breakdown after struggling to cope with the loss of his mother Princess Diana – who tragically died in a car crash in Paris, France, in 1997 when Harry was just 12 years old – and royal sources have now claimed it was Harry’s girlfriend Meghan who encouraged him to “talk about his feelings”.
An insider told Closer magazine: “Harry fell for Meghan partly because she’s so open, and has that American attitude of saying, ‘Let’s talk about our feelings.’
“He comes from such a stiff-upper-lip culture, but Meghan helped him open up.
“Meghan encouraged Harry to see that, by speaking publicly about his difficult experience, he would really help others, and how being honest might even be a relief.
“No other woman has helped Harry so much emotionally.”
The news comes after Prince Harry – who is the younger brother of Prince William – gave a candid interview in which he spoke about “shutting down his emotions” as he grew up determined not to think about the loss of his mother.
He said: “I can safely say that losing my mum at the age of 12, and therefore shutting down all of my emotions for the last 20 years, has had a quite serious effect on not only my personal life but my work as well.
“I have probably been very close to a complete breakdown on numerous occasions when all sorts of grief and sort of lies and misconceptions and everything are coming to you from every angle.”
And the royal admitted he has been in therapy “more than a couple of times” in order to help him deal with his grief, and later turned to boxing as a way to vent his frustrations.
He added: “During those years I took up boxing, because everyone was saying boxing is good for you and it’s a really good way of letting out aggression. And that really saved me because I was on the verge of punching someone, so being able to punch someone who had pads was certainly easier.”
Prince Harry is now campaigning to end the stigma surrounding mental health through his charity Heads Together – which he spearheads alongside William and his wife Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge – as he hopes to “make a difference to everybody else”.
He told The Daily Telegraph newspaper: “Because of the process I have been through over the past two and a half years, I’ve now been able to take my work seriously, been able to take my private life seriously as well, and been able to put blood, sweat and tears into the things that really make a difference and things that I think will make a difference to everybody else.”

Prince Charles is a 'very good' train driver

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Charles has been hailed as a “very good” train driver.
The 68-year-old royal got the chance to drive an old steam train which he’d travelled on “as a child” when he visited the Royal Deeside Railway Preservation Society at Milton of Crathes, Banchory, Aberdeenshire, on Monday (24.04.17).
Charles was praised for his driving ability during the short trip on the reconstructed historic railway line towards Banchory and back.
Volunteer driver Jamie West told the Daily Express newspaper: “I never thought I’d teach the future King to drive a steam train. He’s driven similar trains before, so kind of understood how they work.
“We chatted on the way down the line about how he’d travelled on the line as a child and he never believed he would travel on it again.
“He took the controls and did all the driving. I did the braking as we approached the platform. His driving was very good.”
The 1965 train was left badly damaged in 2015 after vandals smashed the double-glazed windows to the Mark 2 coach and ruined a nearby locomotive engine, amounting in £10,000 worth of destruction.
However, hope was not lost for the volunteers as Prince Charles, through The Prince of Wales’ Charitable Foundation, made a “significant” donation toward the appeal fund to repair the carriage and the engine.
His donation is helping fund the ongoing £15,000 refurbishment project to the rolling stock on the historic line, which was used by the Royal Family on trips to the Balmoral estate between 1853 and 1966.
Charles’ donation meant an immediate start could be made to clear up, repair, and restore the damage done to the coach.
During his visit to the site, Prince Charles met with some of the volunteers who were tasked with repairing and resorting the damaged stock, and unveiled a plaque to commemorate his visit.

Princess Charlene 'can't wait' to bring children to Africa

OHMYGOSSIP — Princess Charlene of Monaco “can’t wait” to bring her children to Africa.
The 39-year-old former Olympic swimmer – who hails from South Africa – has two-year-old twins Jacques and Gabriella with her husband Prince Albert II, and has said she is excited to “introduce” her children to her home continent.
Speaking to South African news channel Eyewitness News, Charlene said: “I am African and this is my heritage.
Meanwhile, her 57-year-old royal husband recently gushed about Charlene’s parenting skills, and said their brood are “never noisy” except for when they’re having fun.
He said: “Gabriella and Jacques are very active, very playful, absolutely adorable, lots of fun and a lot of work.”
“I am very happy that [Charlene] is able to spend as much time as she does with them/ I have never really heard them complain. Yes, when they are hungry (they do) but they’ve never been noisy (except when) they are being joyful.”
And that’s not the first time Albert has praised his wife’s skills as a mother either, as he previously credited her as being the reason their children are “smiling and happy”.
Speaking in 2015, he said: “She’s very eager to be with her children at all times. She’s up with the kids at 6, 6:30 and takes them through the morning. Every day.
“I don’t think they would be as smiling and happy as they are if she weren’t as good a mother as she is.”

Queen Elizabeth rides pony for first time since turning 91

OHMYGOSSIP — Queen Elizabeth has embarked on her first horse ride since turning 91.
The monarch celebrated her 91st birthday on Friday (21.04.17), and has now proved she’s still as fit as ever by braving Monday’s (24.04.17) wet weather conditions for a horse ride around Windsor Great Park.
Queen Elizabeth was spotted donning her waterproofs as she headed out on her beloved Fell pony Carltonlima Emma – which is known to be one of her favourite horses – whilst accompanied by Head Groom Terry Pendry.
The royal is known for her love her horses, and first learned to ride one at the age of four after she was gifted with a Shetland pony named Peggy.
In recent years, the Queen has been forced to cut down the amount of time she spends with her beloved horses, but she still makes an effort to tend to her stables and takes a keen interest in the horses and ponies that reside there.
The news comes after the royal celebrated her 91st birthday last week with a royal salute which sounded in her honour.
The Kensington House Twitter page posted a message for HRH, which read: “Wishing Her Majesty The Queen a very Happy 91st Birthday today. #QueensBirthday #HappyBirthdayHerMajesty #Queenat91 (sic)”
Clarence House, the home of Prince Charles and his wife the Duchess of Cornwall shared an old black and white photo of Elizabeth when she was 29 and her son Charles, who would have been just six years old, from 1952 to mark the occasion.
Alongside the picture posted on the micro-blogging site, they wrote: “To mark The Queen’s 91st birthday, we are sharing this photo from 1952 of Her Majesty and The Prince of Wales #HappyBirthdayHerMajesty (sic)”
For her second celebration, Elizabeth will be joined by members of the royal family at the annual Trooping the Colour parade, which starts of at the royal residence and moves to The Mall and Horseguards’ Parade and will be held on June 17.

Mental health sufferers 'still being failed' despite royals' Heads Together campaign

OHMYGOSSIP — Mental health sufferers are “still being failed” despite the efforts made by Prince Harry, Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge.
The royal trio have been campaigning to end the stigma surrounding mental health through their charity Heads Together – which was the named charity for the London Marathon over the weekend – but despite their best efforts, cuts to the budgets of mental health trusts are reportedly still leaving sufferers without help.
Marjorie Wallace, chief executive of mental health charity Sane, told the Daily Express newspaper: “Despite the raised hopes following the royal princes’ recent campaigning for mental health and the London Marathon, cuts to services across the country continue and people seeking help are still being failed.
“A recent report found that 40 per cent of the mental health trusts in England had seen cuts to their budgets, and figures show mental health trusts received none of the extra £8 billion funding for the NHS over the last four years.
“The upcoming election revives the chance of committing more funds and ensuring they reach the frontline.”
Recently, Heads Together released a series of videos aiming to encourage others to voice their struggles after a poll released by the campaign found that men are less likely to talk about their mental health than women are.
One video featured comedian Stephen Fry – who has previously been vocal about his struggle with bipolar disorder – in which he talked to a psychiatrist about how “talking” about his mental health was a pivotal part of his “healing” process.
He said: “It was very difficult but it was ultimately the healing thing. Talking was really a very strong part of the healing.”
To which his psychiatrist Doctor William Shanahan said: “Most people aren’t very good at opening up and I think we have to, I certainly have to, to get people to feel that this is going to be a comfortable and helpful time for them. One conversation can make all the difference.”
Other stars involved in the series – called #oktosay – include model Adwoa Aboah, Rio Ferdinand and Ruby Wax.
