Princess Eugenie and boyfriend asked Queen for engagement approval

OHMYGOSSIP — Princess Eugenie and her boyfriend reportedly flew to Queen Elizabeth’s home in Scotland over the weekend to ask for her blessing on their forthcoming engagement.
The loved up couple spent two days at the monarch’s Balmoral Castle because Eugenie’s cousin Prince Harry was hosting a shooting party to celebrate his 32nd birthday, but it’s believed Jack Brooksbank took advantage of the time by asking his lover’s famous grandmother for her approval.
An insider at the Castle told The Sunday Express newspaper: “You could call this weekend a rite of passage for Jack. There is no way he would be invited to stay with the Queen unless he was being welcomed into the royal fold and the bosom of the family.”
However, a friend of Jack admitted that he was riddled with nerves ahead of his visit to Balmoral.
The pal explained: “You could say he was somewhat apprehensive about going to Balmoral. But Jack has no side to him and will just be himself.”
Although the pair – who have been dating for six years – are yet to make an official announcement, it’s believed Jack is hoping to put a ring on Eugenie’s finger by the end of 2016.
Eugenie and Jack are also planning to move into a three-bedroom cottage in Kensington Palace, London, next year.
The 26-year-old royal currently lives in a four-bedroom apartment in St James’ Palace, London, which she shares with her sister Princess Beatrice at the moment.
Eugenie and Jack met at a ski resort in Switzerland, in 2010.

Prince William scoffs £5 fry-up

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince William has been scoffing greasy £5 fry-ups in between his shifts as an East Anglian Air Ambulance pilot.
The 34-year-old royal’s wife Catherine has been trying to kick his naughty eating habits by placing him on a strict regime, but it seems her health kick isn’t working for him as he was spotted chomping down on sausage, bacon and eggs behind her back in Cambridge Airport’s staff canteen.
A source told The Sun Online: “William seems to be a lot slimmer and trimmer these days thanks to plenty of exercise and Kate feeding him healthy meals at home. But it’s a different story when he is at work. The canteen does excellent fry-ups and he can’t resist them.”
It seems William takes after his father Prince Charles when it comes to his love of food as the 67-year-old royal – the son of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip – stashes any of his leftover grub inside tupperware containers.
Chef Carolyn Robb – who cooked for Charles and his sons William and Harry from 1990 to 2000 – said recently: “The prince was very economical and very much believed that nothing should go to waste. If there were leftovers, they’d be used one way or another. If not for him, then rehashed and used for a meal the following day. But we were always quite careful: he never wanted to have huge amounts of food on the plate. They were always very thrifty and economical. If we made roasted lamb and there was leftovers, we’d probably go and make Shepard’s pie the next night.”
Meanwhile, Catherine’s determination to help William shed the weight comes ahead of their eight-day trip to Canada.
The couple – who got married in 2011 – are taking their children George, three, and Charlotte, 16 months, across the pond with them as they carry out 30 royal engagements.

Princess Charlotte to get special Canadian treatment

OHMYGOSSIP — Princess Charlotte is set to get the special treatment when she embarks on her first foreign trip later this week.
The 16-month-old royal will join her mother and father the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and her brother George, three, on their week-long tour of Canada, and officials are determined to make it a trip to remember by building her a lavish soft-toy nursery at the country’s Government House.
According to the Daily Mirror newspaper, Charlotte won’t be the only one to have the special service as Canada’s Prime Minister Justin P J Trudeaus and his wife Sophie Grégoire have also arranged a meal plan for the youngsters.
The royal family will touch down in Victoria, British Columbia, on September 24 and the children will be introduced to their nanny Maria Borrallo while their parents carry out duties.
Catherine and William – who got married in 2011 – are expected to complete more than 30 royal engagements during their week-long trip; including a visit to the majestic Great Bear Rainforest, a stop off at the immigration Services Society to meet Syrian refugees, and they’ll even get chance to ride in a floatplane, steer a canoe and do some fishing.
A spokesman for the family said they are “delighted” with the programme that has been put together for the tour.
The statement said: “They cannot wait to get to Canada and start learning about new parts of a country that will play such an important part of their lives for many years to come.”
William and Catherine, who are both 34, announced they were planning a trip to Canada earlier this month.

Pippa Middleton's fiancé still unsure on fame

OHMYGOSSIP — Pippa’s Middleton’s fiancé is still trying to come to terms with life in the public eye.
The 33-year-old beauty – the sister of Duchess Catherine – has admitted her beau James Matthews, who she got engaged to in July, doesn’t know how to cope with people following them around all the time with cameras.
Speaking to the Daily Mail newspaper, she said: “I have had a few years of being in the public eye and I have developed something of a thick skin. But managing it all on my own has been quite hard. I have quite a lot thrown at me, such as being followed by people hiding behind cars and jumping out with cameras. It can be unnerving.
“There’s always something cropping up and has to be managed on my own. It’s been a real eye-opener for James. There have been quite a few hurdles to negotiate.”
Pippa began dating James at the end of 2015 but knew almost instantly that he was the one for her because they share the same love for sports and the outdoors.
She explained: “I think James and I have the same spirit. We are both competitive. We have had many adventures together. We have a lot in common and that helps. I don’t think it would work with a couch potato. I think we do exhaust most people.”
The brunette socialite and her beau are planning to get hitched next year and, although they’re yet to set a date for their big day, Pippa already knows she wants to wear a white wedding dress.
Asked if she still wants to wear tennis whites to her nuptials, she said: “No, that was a phase I went through as a little girl and I was having a bit of a battle about wearing a dress. I wasn’t into dresses as an eight year old.”

Prince Harry: Soldiers make a sacrifice

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Harry has spoke of the importance of “recognising the sacrifice” made by soldiers across the world.
The 32-year-old royal – who himself served in the Army in the past – has urged for people to take notice and realise the huge “debt” we owe the armed services for their work in protecting the country.
Speaking about the Walking With The Wounded expedition, he told GQ magazine: “This extraordinary expedition will raise awareness of the debt that this country owes to those it sends off to fight – only for them to return wounded and scarred, physically and emotionally.
“The debt extends beyond immediate medical care and short-term rehabilitation. These men and women have given so much. We must recognise their sacrifice, be thankful, so far as we can ever repay them for it.”
Meanwhile, Prince Harry – who is the youngest son of Prince Charles – previously admitted he felt guilty about leaving the Army.
He said: “I could no longer stay with my soldiers, as it would have put them at greater risk. It was a decision over which I had no control. But the guilt of having to leave my guys behind was something I had to swallow.
“Four years later I made it back to Afghanistan as an Apache helicopter pilot. Again, I was reminded of the human impact of conflict as I protected medical teams evacuating soldiers from the battlefield.
“On other occasions I sat at the controls of one of the world’s most advanced helicopters and was powerless to protect men, women and children below. On returning home, I began to look for ways to support veterans with injuries.”

Countess Sophie to cycle 450 miles

OHMYGOSSIP — Sophie, Countess of Wessex’s family thought she was “quite mad” when she told them she would be cycling from Scotland to London.
The 51-year-old royal is set to cycle the 450 miles from Holyrood Palace in Edinburgh to London’s Buckingham Palace in support of the 60th anniversary of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
She shared: “At the start of this year I had almost no experience as a road cyclist. Like many people, I had only ever gone on occasional bike rides with my family.
“When I told my family what I was planning they definitely thought I was quite mad and I’m not sure they took my plan seriously at first.
“But from the start I was determined to succeed, and to be one of the many committed people who will take on a Diamond Challenge this year in support of the 60th anniversary of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE).”
And Sophie, who is married to Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip’s youngest son Prince Edward, praised Sandhurst trainer Rachel McKenzie for helping get her into shape.
She added: “If she [Rachel] was daunted by the task of getting me fit enough for the challenge, she didn’t show it. It was clear we had some serious work to do.
“Those early days were pure hell. Every incline was like the north face of the Eiger and I prayed for the end of every ride! I confess I even shed a tear or two of desperation and frustration.”
Meanwhile, Sophie also shared her concerns about being able to achieve the required fitness at her age.
Writing for MailOnline, she added: “I turned 50 last year and there have been moments when I questioned if I would be able to achieve the fitness required. But the more time passed, the more I believed in myself.
“Six months on I am fitter than ever. I have been surprised by how much I enjoy cycling, which I aspire to continue once my Challenge is complete.”

Duchess Catherine's secret cover shoot

OHMYGOSSIP — Duchess Catherine’s cover shoot for Vogue magazine was kept secret for four months.
The 34-year-old royal recently appeared on the front cover of the fashion magazine’s 100th anniversary edition and it has now been revealed that Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman kept it quiet for 16 weeks.
Richard Macer, who shot a documentary at Vogue magazine’s headquarters, said: “Trust. It’s a critical ingredient in any successful documentary. My job is to make the contributor feel them can speak openly and honestly in an unfettered way.
“But for some reason Alex felt she couldn’t tell me about the royal photo shoot. It wasn’t just a case of withholding information. She actively lied. More than that, she developed an elaborate ruse.”
And Richard was impressed that Alexandra managed to get the “scoop of the year”.
He added: “The centenary issue is selling like hot cakes and Alex is still at the top of her game. Far from announcing her retirement, she’d pulled off the scoop of the year.”
Richard also revealed he was kept in the dark about the shoot until April 28, where the photos of the Duchess of Cambridge were revealed.
Speaking in the BBC2 documentary, ‘Absolutely Fashion: Inside British Vogue’, he added: “I’m told I must not discuss this with anyone, even Alex. I can’t stop thinking about this surprise announcement,’ he said of the longest-serving editor of British Vogue. Maybe she’s going to tell everyone she’s leaving.
“I think it’s a surprise party for her staff to say thanks for all their hard work. I’ve been speculating quite a lot about what she’s going to say but the truth is, I have no clue.”

Prince William attempts to dance

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince William tried his hand at dancing as he visited a youth centre in London.
The 34-year-old royal attempted a “shoulder shiver” with some of the young visitors to Caius House Youth Centre in Battersea.
After meeting with the Scariofunk Dance Collective, which is a street dance crew from the British capital, the Prince gave the dance moves a good shot but failed to impress.
As he tried to copy their moves, he said: “I can never get the shoulder shiver right. There is no pressure, because I will look ridiculous.”
Elsewhere during the visit, the Duke of Cambridge – who is second in line to the throne – took part in a cupcake-decorating session where he joked he was as good as the bakers who appear on ‘The Great British Bake Off’.
He quipped: “Mary Berry, eat your heart out!”
The Prince also had the chance to meet with young people who were taking part in various other activities including boxing and arts and crafts.
Meanwhile, earlier this week, Prince William met with the Royal Foundation Taskforce on the Prevention of Cyberbullying.
The father-of-two – who has Prince George, three, and Princess Charlotte, 16 months, with his wife, Duchess Catherine – had previously expressed the importance of protecting children from cyberbullying.
A spokesperson for the Prince said: “This is an issue that the duke feels strongly about. He knows that social media and other technologies are creating significant positive opportunities for millions of young people. But as a parent, he knows that many people worry about how to protect their children from the new avenues for bullying that technology is creating.
“He hopes the taskforce can help the industry share the best practice that is emerging across the sector and put in place new standards so that the internet remains something young people and their parents can embrace with confidence.”

Prince Charles remembers fallen soldiers

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Charles honoured New Zealand’s fallen soldiers at a moving ceremony in France on Thursday (15.09.16).
The 67-year-old royal attended the New Zealand Somme Centenary Commemorations in his official role as the Field Marshal of the New Zealand Army to remember those who died serving their country during the First World War.
Speaking at the ceremony, he said: “Standing in this peaceful scene today it is hard to imagine that a century ago this was an infernal, blasted wasteland, which my predecessor as Prince of Wales, my great-uncle Edward, described as ‘the nearest approach to hell imaginable’ …
The footprints we leave today mark the centre of a struggle that found twenty-five countries from five continents on opposing sides in a terrible and exhausting trial of strength. None came further to serve here than the New Zealanders who, on the Somme, confirmed their reputation as exceptional soldiers.
“They engaged, with boundless courage and tenacity, in defence of values of liberty that we still hold dear to this day. What occurred here 100 years ago did not create national character – it revealed it. The depth of contribution and sacrifice by Pākehā and Maori soldiers was extraordinary.”
The Prince of Wales – who is next in line to the throne – was escorted to the event by the New Zealand Defence Force’s Maori Cultural Group, where he urged for conflict across the world to cease.
He added: “Long after 1916, one Otago soldier recalled how at a New Zealand regimental aid post wounded men were evacuated under heavy shellfire ‘with no favour or distinction of nationality’. It was he thought ‘an insane paradox – every energy in the one place devoted to the extermination of life, and the other to its preservation!’
“My hope is that today we can re-dedicate ourselves to a future free from intolerance and conflict. We do this in honour of the memory of those who fought and died here so long ago.”

Princess Diana's niece has 'special memories'

OHMYGOSSIP — The late Princess Diana’s niece feels “lucky” to have “special and happy” memories of the royal.
Lady Kitty Spencer, now 25, was just six years old when her aunt was killed in a car crash in 1997, and though she doesn’t remember a lot about the princess, what she can recall makes her feel good.
She said: “I was so young when she died. There are only a few memories, but special and happy memories, and I’m so lucky to have those.”
Kitty was just four years old when she and her family moved to South Africa, but she has since moved back to the UK and always knew she’d return to London.
She told Vanity Fair magazine: “Obviously, I’ve always felt tied to London and I’ve always felt British and a lot of my family’s here, too, so it was a logical step, one I knew I was always going to take
“I’ve always felt tied to London and I’ve always felt British and a lot of my family’s here, too, so it was a logical step, one I knew I was always going to take.”
And the model insists it wasn’t difficult spending some of her time in South Africa with her mother Victoria Lockwood and the rest in the UK with her father Earl Spencer – Diana’s brother and never felt like a “sacrifice”.
She said: “I’ve never had to sacrifice one or the other because my mother’s in South Africa and my father’s [in London], so I’ve always gone between the two.
“Now, I love being in London and it makes sense to be here, and it’s a really exciting place to be in your 20s. South Africa’s such an amazing place to grow up and have a childhood but, right now, I . . . really wanted a big city.”

Prince William has Bake Off sympathy

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince William thinks the ‘Great British Bake Off’ will be “just as good” when it moves channels.
The 34-year-old royal revealed he had tuned into the baking contest – which was announced this week to be leaving the BBC for Channel 4 – and can understand why fans are “distraught” about the changes, which will also see presenting duo Mel & Sue depart the show.
William made his comments as he tried out cake decorating at the Caius House youth club in Wandsworth, South London, on Wednesday (14.09.16).
Referring to one of the show’s judges, he said of his work: “Mary Berry, eat your heart out – look at that.”
He then turned to volunteer Patricia Nunoo, 17, and said: “Not quite as elegant as yours, but it’s a start.”
He added to the group: “You must be distraught it’s moving, but I’m sure it will be just as good.”
The prince – who has children Prince George, three, and Princess Charlotte, 16 months, with wife Duchess Catherine – admitted his wife has more culinary flair than he does, but he does know his way around the kitchen.
He said: “Catherine is a very good cook. I did a lot of cooking when I was younger but you have to reach a certain level when you can throw stuff in, but I stick rigidly to the recipe.”
William spent over an hour touring the facility, which offers training and support in disciplines ranging from music and dance to sport and fitness.
He also clumsily attempted to learn a dance move called The Wave – which saw him raise his arms and try to make a ripple movement from his fingertips, along his arm, and across to his other hand – after watching a display from a group of teenagers.
He laughed at his own efforts but said of the performance: “It’s very cool, if you need an extra back-room dancer give me a shout.”

Prince Charles unveils Buckingham Palace 'replica'

OHMYGOSSIP — Britain’s Prince Charles has unveiled a replica of Buckingham Palace in his Dorset village.
The spectacular palladian building in the village of Poundbury – which is owned by the Prince’s Duchy of Cornwall – sits in the heart of Queen Mother Square and has been named Strathmore House in tribute to Charles’ beloved late grandmother, whose father was the 14th Earl of Strathmore.
Strathmore House features a large balcony with two spectacular villages and houses eight £650,000 apartments, all of which have been bought.
Next door to the building is a five-storey public house named the Duchess of Cornwall at Charles’ request, which is modelled on one of the queen mother’s favourite places, the Ritz Hotel.
As well as featuring a pub and restaurant, the Duchess of Cornwall – a joint venture between the Duchy of Cornwall and brewery Hall and Woodhouse – also boasts conference facilities and hotel accommodation.
On the other side of the square, a block of 20 flats and a spa is being erected and will be known as Royal Pavilion, the name one of the queen mother’s racehorses.
At the heart of the area will be a 10ft tall statue of the beloved royal, who died aged 101 in 2002.
Charles decided long ago to honour his grandmother with his Poundbury development.
Simon Conibear, from the Duchy of Cornwall, said: “The square has been planned since the inception of the project – it is part of Poundbury.
“It is physically in the centre of Poundbury and will include a statue of the Queen Mother. His Royal Highness wanted to commemorate his grandmother.”
Despite the apparent similarities between Strathmore House and the queen’s London residence, architects Quinlan and Francis Ferry insist the resemblance to Buckingham Palace wasn’t intentional.
Their spokesperson said: “Buckingham Palace was never the inspiration for Strathmore House. The major influence for all our work at Queen Mother Square is the English Palladian tradition.”

Prince Charles in deer crash

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Charles has been in a car accident involving a deer.
The 67-year-old royal was unhurt in the collision, which took place on his mother Queen Elizabeth’s Balmoral estate in Scotland, but the Audi A4 Allroad Estate he was driving was left “badly damaged”.
A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “Red Deer are a hazard on the roads up here and most drivers have had a brush with them at some point.
“Charles is a careful driver but sometimes they dash out on the road and there’s little you can do. He’ll have got a hell of a fright.”
It is not known if the deer survived.
A specialist mechanic had to be dispatched to Balmoral, which is in the Scottish Highlands, to carry out repairs on Charles’ car.
A Clarence House spokesperson refused to comment on the accident, which took place in the last few days while the prince was on a break from official duties.
A number of members of the royal family are currently at Balmoral, with Charles’ son Prince William, his wife Duchess Catherine and their children Prince George, three, and Princess Charlotte, 16 months, arriving a week ago at the invitation of the queen.
They have also been accompanied by Catherine’s parents, Carole and Michael Middleton.
As well as Charles’ wife, Duchess Camilla, and the queen’s husband, Prince Philip, the monarch’s daughter, Princess Anne, is also currently at the estate while she takes a break from royal duty after contracting a bad chest infection.
Charles’ younger son, Prince Harry, is also expected to join his family at some point.

Prince Harry makes secret hospital visit

OHMYGOSSIP — Britain’s Prince Harry made a secret visit to an HIV hospital last week.
The prince – who turned 32 on Thursday (15.09.16) – spent time meeting patients and talking to staff at Mildmay Mission Hospital in East London last Friday (09.09.16), shortly after returning to the UK from Africa.
He previously visited the hospital publicly in December and it is the same facility where his late mother Princess Diana famously shook hands with an AIDS patient and kissed him on the cheek during a visit in 1989.
A spokesperson for the prince told People: “He had a chance to speak to staff there for a bit longer.
“He met with patients and spent some time learning a bit more about the work there.
“He is continuing to learn more about HIV as a virus, and he was able to talk to them about his work on testing, which he is very interested in.”
Diana previously visited the facility around 17 times, with only three of her trips to Mildmay done in public.
And Harry admitted he was amazed his mother was able to sneak in without the media finding out.
Kerry Reeves-Kneip, director of fundraising, said: “[Harry asked] ‘How on earth did she get away with sneaking in and out?’ and said, ‘If only I could do that!’
“He said it was very important for him to come here. This was a very important place to her and she made a number of visits here.”
In July, Harry took an HIV test in a procedure broadcast live on Facebook in a bid to raise awareness and encourage others to get tested, and he has been praised for his stance.
Juley Ayres, communications manager at Mildmay, said: “Many of our patients feel afraid to disclose the fact that they are living with HIV because of stigma, and this can cause enormous anxiety. Stigma and discrimination is cited as one of the main reasons why people are reluctant to get tested, disclose their HIV status and take antiretroviral drugs.
“As an organisation, we are deeply impressed and heartened to witness the work Prince Harry is doing to break down stigma, encourage testing and raise HIV awareness. We feel privileged to be able to support this work in any way we can.”

Prince William attends cyberbullying meeting

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince William has put further plans together for the Royal Foundation Taskforce on the Prevention of Cyberbullying.
The Duke of Cambridge – who launched the group in April – attended the foundation’s second ever meeting today (14.09.16) to work on further steps to try to combat online bullying.
A post on the Kensington Palace Twitter account read: “This morning The Duke attended the 2nd meeting of The Royal Foundation Taskforce on the Prevention of Cyberbullying.”
He previously has asked tech entrepreneur Brent Hoberman to chair the foundation, which aims to develop an industry-wide response to the online bullying of young people, and the pair are keen to work together to make the internet a safer place.
A spokesperson for William – who has three-year-old son Prince George and 16-month-old daughter Princess Charlotte with Duchess Catherine – said at the time: “This is an issue that the duke feels strongly about.
“He knows that social media and other technologies are creating significant positive opportunities for millions of young people.
“But as a parent, he knows that many people worry about how to protect their children from the new avenues for bullying that technology is creating.
“He hopes the taskforce can help the industry share the best practice that is emerging across the sector and put in place new standards so that the internet remains something young people and their parents can embrace with confidence.”
The foundation will particularly focus on the online bullying of 12 to 14 year olds, and aims to try to combat the horrific internet-based abuse by bringing industry partners together.
Brent added: “This Taskforce will bring together the commitment, talent and expertise of the technology industry to tackle Cyberbullying and the terrible effect it has on children.
“The future of our children is inextricably linked with the Internet. It is our responsibility to ensure that they grow up confident and happy online so that they can make the most of the extraordinary potential it offers.”
