Author says Prince Charles should stand for election

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Charles should stand in an election to determine whether he becomes the Head of State, author Owen Jones has suggested.
The political activist – who wrote the much-discussed book ‘Chavs: The Demonization of the Working Class’ – cited a recent poll showing that 54 percent of the Brits would prefer Prince William to succeed Queen Elizabeth, and argued Prince Charles should run in an election.
Speaking on LBC Radio, Jones explained: “As a country would it be the end of the world [to elect our head of state]? Wouldn’t it enshrine our democracy?”
Jones subsequently turned his attention to the poll and cited it as a potential reason as to why Prince Charles should run in an election.
He said: “There’s a poll recently which suggested that 54 percent of people think Prince William should take over, and about 25 percent think it should be Charles.
“One way of going about it is that they both could stand in an election and, while we are at it, maybe some other people could stand as well. We could have an open election about who our head of state is.”
This comes shortly after a YouGov poll found that just 36 per cent of people think Prince Charles has been positive for the Royal Family compared to 60 per cent four years ago, while less than a fifth of people (14 per cent) would want his wife, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, as queen.
What’s more, over a third of people (39 per cent) called for Camilla to be called Princess Consort, instead of Queen Camilla, if Charles becomes king – but 30 per cent don’t think she should have any rank at all.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle ‘are heading towards an engagement’

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly “heading in [the] direction” of an engagement.
The high-profile couple have been dating since mid-2016 and while rumours of an imminent engagement are said to be premature, their relationship has been progressing serenely over recent months.
A source explained: “Harry and Meghan are not engaged yet, reports that they are are jumping the gun slightly.
“They are definitely heading in that direction, but when they do get engaged Harry will follow Royal protocol and an announcement will be made by the Palace.”
Prince Harry and the ‘Suits’ actress are said to be very much in “love” with each other.
However, neither of them wishes to commit to marriage before they’re totally convinced it’s right for them.
The insider told HollywoodLife.com: “Harry and Meghan are very much in love, but they both want to make completely sure that they are ready to take the next step before doing so.
“Harry does not want to make the same mistake as his mother and father did. When he marries it will be for life, and it’s not something he is going to rush into.”
The couple have logistical issues to consider, too, like where they will live should they decide to tie the knot.
The source continued: “There’s all manor of things Harry and Meghan need to decide before getting engaged, like where they will live, and if Meghan will continue with her acting career.
“She’s made it clear that she would like to continue working, and to do that she needs to spend a large amount of her time in Canada and the US.”

Prince William feels ‘proud’ of Princess Diana’s honesty

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince William feels proud of his mother for having the courage to discuss her battle against bulimia.
The 35-year-old royal features in a documentary by former ITN newsreader Mark Austin, whose daughter also struggled with the eating disorder, and William wrote to him after reading about her struggles, admitting he was moved by Austin’s story.
In the Channel 4 documentary ‘Wasting Away: The Truth About Anorexia’, Prince William is seen talking to Austin and his daughter Maddy about Princess Diana’s troubles.
And Maddy admits to being inspired by the late Princess, who discussed the problem in her 1995 BBC interview with Martin Bashir.
In the much-discussed interview, the British royal said: “I didn’t like myself, I was ashamed I couldn’t cope with the pressures.
“I had bulimia for a number of years, and that’s like a secret disease. It’s a repetitive pattern which is very destructive. It was my escape mechanism.”
And in the new documentary, Prince William speaks to Maddy about her past troubles, saying: “We need to normalise the conversation about mental health. The fact that you are speaking out is incredibly brave.”
To which she replies: “I was inspired by what your mum did.”
Then, William says: “We need to be matter-of-fact about it, and not hide it in the dark where it festers.”
Asked whether he feels proud of his mother for acknowledging her eating disorder, Prince William added: “Absolutely. These are illnesses. Mental health needs to be taken as seriously as physical health.”

Princes give their ‘final word’ on Princess Diana’s death

OHMYGOSSIP — Princes William and Harry have given their “final word” on their mother in a new documentary, according to director Henry Singer.
The filmmaker, who previously made the acclaimed Twin Towers documentary ‘The Falling Man’, has helmed ‘Diana, 7 Days’ for the BBC and has given Brits an insight into what the Princes discussed during their interviews for the programme.
He shared: “They talk about coming down to London, what it was like to go outside, and how people were so anxious to see them, and how people were crying, and yet they didn’t cry.”
Prince Harry, who was 12 at the time of his mother’s death, discusses trying to keep his emotions in check while he was surrounded by large crowds of people.
Prince William, meanwhile, speaks of how he viewed the procession behind Diana’s coffin through the “safety blanket” of his bowed head.
Speaking to the Radio Times, Singer explained: “My film may not have the headlines that other films have had, but I would like to think I will do something that lasts the test of time, and that, for me, is much more important than breaking news.”
The director said, too, that the documentary might serve to draw a line under the issue for the Princes.
Singer said: “I think the Princes hope they have answered these questions once and for all, and they don’t need to be asked them anymore, and that people can refer back to this film and our words within it if they have questions.
“That this is their first, and final word on it.”

Prince Harry’s special Meghan Markle arrangements

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Harry has met Meghan Markle off the plane at Heathrow airport on a number of occasions to avoid her being photographed.
The flame-haired royal has made the special arrangements for the ‘Suits’ star – who he has been dating for nearly a year – to ensure she can have a bit more privacy when she flies to the UK to spend some quality time with him.
A source told the Daily Express newspaper: “It’s been happening for a while. Harry has a police escort on the tarmac in his black Audi RS6. He is accompanied by a bodyguard, with a people carrier following behind.
“Meghan usually only carries hand luggage. If she does check a suitcase into the hold it is put on last so it can be located as quickly as possible.
“All the necessary security checks must be carried out in advance or onboard because she walks straight from the plane steps to Harry’s car.”
Harry is said to have been offered the use of the Windsor Suite, a private lounge used by officials and politicians, where they are screened by security away from other airport-goers and can access the plane directly – but he prefers to make his own plans.
Another source said: “It costs £3,000 a time to use the Windsor Suite so it is quite expensive.”
A Heathrow spokesman told the publication: “The aviation and protective security arrangements for members of the Royal Family, including their movements through the airport, are confidential and fully compliant with regulatory requirements.
“It would be inappropriate to discuss those arrangements in public.”
The couple took to the skies earlier this month as Harry whisked Meghan away to Africa to celebrate her 36th birthday, and some pals speculated a proposal could be imminent.
A source previously said: “Harry has been planning this holiday for a long time.
“He’s made the trip incredibly romantic. They’ll go on boats across the lake, walk in the bush at dawn and camp under the stars.”

Prince Charles’ popularity takes nosedive, poll finds

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Charles’ popularity has taken a nosedive, a new poll has found.
A YouGov poll has discovered that just 36 per cent of people think he has been positive for the Royal Family compared to 60 per cent four years ago, while less than a fifth of people (14 per cent) would want his wife, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, as queen.
Over a third of people (39 per cent) have called for Camilla to be called Princess Consort, instead of Queen Camilla, if Charles becomes king, but 30 per cent don’t think she should have any rank at all.
Just over a quarter of people (27 per cent) think Charles has had a negative impact on the monarchy, up 12 per cent from 2013.
This is a contrast to Prince William, who 78 per cent of those polled said he has been positive for the Royal Family, closely followed by his brother Prince Harry, who 77 per cent voted in favour of.
Penny Junor, who has written biographies about the royal couple, was shocked by the results.
She said: “We’ve moved on 20 years. Charles’s reputation, I thought, was completely rehabilitated.
“He’s become a much happier, more relaxed and more confident Prince of Wales and I thought much more popular as a result.”
These results come just a week after another poll discovered almost two thirds of Brits don’t want Charles to become king.
An ICM Unlimited vote for general interest publication Prospect magazine found 62 per cent would prefer either Prince William or neither of the royal pair to take over the throne when Queen Elizabeth, 91, hangs up her crown.
William, 35, attracted 46 per cent of the vote, but Charles, 68, could only muster 38 per cent.

Paul Burrell slept in Princess Diana’s wardrobe

OHMYGOSSIP — Paul Burrell slept in Princess Diana’s wardrobe after her death.
The late Princess of Wales’ former butler has revealed he got some sleep among her clothes in the furniture, and also sat next to her “soft and warm” corpse following her death in a Paris car crash in August 1997 aged 36.
Speaking on upcoming Channel 5 documentary ‘Therapy: Paul Burrell’, for which he was paid £10,000, according to The Sun newspaper, he said: “It was the only way I could try and get her back into my world.”
In the programme, Paul also admitted he tried to help Diana battle bulimia by giving her “a gallon of custard”.
When a therapist mentions the late royal’s “very well reported” eating disorder, he replies: “I’d help her with that. I’d get the chef to prepare a gallon of custard and I’d buy yoghurts and lots of bananas. And I’d prepare the room for her to make sure she was comfortable.
“Make sure there was a pile of towels … I was doing my duty. I would have done anything for Diana.
“I wasn’t able to challenge what was happening.
“I couldn’t tell her what to do. I could be there, I could put my arm around her.”
Paul can’t bear to take down pictures of himself and Diana, admitting it is “very difficult” to “let go” of the royal.
Speaking about his husband Graham Cooper suggesting they remove photos of the princess from their house, Paul says: “It never occurred to me there are three people in my marriage. How can I tell one to leave? It’s very difficult for me to let go of her, and I think she is moving away.”
Paul recently compared Diana to her son Prince William’s wife Duchess Catherine, admitting the Duchess of Cambridge lacks the same “charisma” that the Princess of Wales had.
He said: “She’s a lovely, lovely girl and if you get to meet Kate you will know she totally adores her husband and they’re devoted to each other, but that extra something which you call the X factor, the magic quality, charisma … it’s not there.”

Princess Diana’s aide: She would’ve split from Dodi

OHMYGOSSIP — Princess Diana’s former private secretary claims her relationship with Dodi Fayed would’ve “disintegrated”.
Michael Gibbins isn’t convinced the pair would’ve remained a couple for much longer if they had returned from Paris, France – where they tragically died in a car crash in August 1997 – despite previously speculation the pair were planning to marry.
He told The Sun newspaper: “I think frankly she was just having a lovely summer at somebody else’s expense to be perfectly honest.
“When the summer was over, everything would have disintegrated.”
Diana was a guest on the Fayed family yacht, The Jonikal, during her final month, and while Michael believes the late Princess of Wales had a great time on the vessel, he insists she was not going to wed Dodi.
When asked if she had mentioned marrying him, he replied: “Absolutely not. Nor do I believe that for a second.
“Superficially she was happy. Deep down, more difficult to say.
“She was a pretty complex person. Superficially yes, she enjoyed bobbing around on boats with Dodi Fayed. Who wouldn’t?”
Michael believes Diana was “bitter and angry” about the way her marriage to Prince Charles – who she wed in 1981 but divorced in 1996 – had failed.
He added: “It was pretty upsetting for her.
“My feeling was that she was determined to build a new her in whatever way. She was probably pretty bitter and angry at the way things had turned out.”
Michael’s claims come after priest Father Frank Gelli recently insisted Diana had asked him if she would be able to marry Dodi in a church, and he believes she may have been seeking Christian approval to tie the knot to the 42-year-old Muslim man.
He said: “She wanted to know if it was possible for two people of different religions to marry. I told her it was.
“As we spoke her telephone rang. It was obviously Dodi. Her eyes lit up. As she was leaving she asked me if I would be able to perform the service when she got married. Her love was obvious.”

The late Princess Diana reportedly wore her wedding rings after divorce

OHMYGOSSIP — The late Princess Diana reportedly wore her wedding rings even after her split from the Prince of Wales.
The blonde royal – who tragically died in 1997 – broke up with Prince Charles in 1991, and it is believed Diana still wore her eternity ring, engagement and wedding ring even after the couple went their separate ways, the Mail Online has reported.
Charles – who has sons Prince William, 35, and Prince Harry, 32, with his late wife – gifted Diana a diamond eternity ring during their first four weeks of dating, which came prior to his proposal 12 months later.
And when the 68-year-old royal got down on one knee to propose to Diana he presented a 12-carat sapphire ring, which cost a whopping £110,000, but was valued for an additional £140,000.
However, the accessory broke with royal traditions because it was custom made, which is not usually done with other proposals.
And it is believed Diana kept her rings on when she made her first public appearance to Eton College with her family following her and Charles Divorce in 1996.
But shortly after the visit it has been reported Diana shed her hands of the significant rings, as she was pictured wearing a Versace dress but without her rings.
Meanwhile, Diana has admitted she had only met Charles 13 times before their wedding day and claimed he was all over her “like a bad rash” when they met for a second time, but he wasn’t always keen to see her.
She previously said in pre-recorded tapes, said: “He would ring me up every day and then not contact me for weeks, he wasn’t very consistent in his courtship.
“Once every three weeks, and then it fizzled out about seven years ago, six years ago.”

Earl Charles Spencer is ‘so worried’ for Prince William and Prince Harry

OHMYGOSSIP — Earl Charles Spencer was “so worried” about Prince William and Prince Harry on the day of the late Princess Diana’s funeral.
The 9th Earl Spencer has admitted he feared what the “trauma” of walking behind Diana’s coffin at the procession in 1997 would have on his nephews the Duke of Cambridge and his 32-year-old brother.
Speaking in a new documentary titled ‘Diana, 7 Days’, which is set to air on August 27, he said: “I was just so worried what a trauma for a little chap to walk behind his mum’s body.”
And Charles has revealed he even tried to bring a “stop” to William and Harry’s duty in the ceremony because he thought it was too big a task and too “awful” for the young two to endure.
He added: “It’s just awful. And, actually, I tried to stop that happening, to be honest.”
However, the 53-year-old royal has admitted both William and Harry had cheers of support throughout the heart-breaking moment, although everyone was “wailing” and deeply upset by the tragic loss.
He explained: “You could walk for three hundred paces through silence and then somebody would start wailing and people would start really sobbing and crying out really lovely things to William and Harry.”
And Harry has admitted he also remembers the sadness that struck all the guests at his late mother’s funeral, as he has recalled filling their wet hands.
The red headed star said: “I remember people’s hands were wet because of the tears they had just wiped away.”

Princess Eugenie’s ‘very proud’ of The Crown

OHMYGOSSIP — Princess Eugenie of York felt “very proud” after she watched ‘The Crown’.
The 27-year-old royal, who is the granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth II, has revealed she is a huge fan of the Netflix programme, which is based around the royal family, and felt pleasantly surprised by the programme and the “beautiful” storyline.
Speaking to Hello! magazine about the show, she said: “It is filmed beautifully. The music is wonderful, the story is beautiful. You feel very proud to watch it.”
However, Eugenie – who is the daughter of the Duke of York, Prince Andrew, and the Duchess of York Sarah – has revealed her opinion of the series is only her own views.
She added: “I can’t speak for everyone, but that’s how I felt when I watched it.”
Eugenie has hinted she splits her time between her “service to her family” and her grandmother, as well as her working life, which is quite flexible because of her status.
Eugenie, who is an associate director at Hauser & Wirth, explained: “My boss is a lovely man. I think he understands when I have to take an afternoon. I think there is an understanding that goes both ways. I am in service to my family and to the love of my grandmother.”
And Eugenie will be pleased to know ‘The Crown’ is set to get a second series and will return to screens on December 8, as Claire Foy and Matt Smith reprise their roles as Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, but this time around it will delve more into their personal lives as they welcome their sons Princes Andrew and Edward.

Prince Philip reportedly persuaded Prince William and Harry to take part in funeral

OHMYGOSSIP — The Duke of Edinburgh reportedly persuaded Prince William and Prince Harry to walk with the late Princess Diana’s coffin at her funeral.
The Duke of Cambridge and his younger brother lost their mother in 1997 and were encouraged to walk in the procession the evening prior to their mother’s funeral by their 96-year-old grandfather, but the action was believed to have been decided until the “last possible moment”.
Speaking about the moment and the decision making process in an ITV documentary titled ‘Diana: The Day Britain Cried’, Sir Malcolm Ross – who is the courtier responsible for the sad ceremony – said: ‘The involvement of the princes on the day, we didn’t address until the last possible moment.
“I understand it was at a family supper on the Friday night at Buckingham Palace that the decision was made and Prince Philip, after some discussion, said to the boys, ‘I’ll walk, if you walk’.”
However, Harry – who is currently dating ‘Suits’ actress Meghan Markle – has previously revealed he was surprised he was asked to take part in the procession as a child.
Speaking previously, he said: “No child should be asked to do that.”
And the pair have openly admitted they were deeply hurt by the loss of their mother.
Speaking previously, William said: “There’s nothing like it in the world. There really isn’t. It’s like an earthquake has just run through the house and through your life and everything. Your mind is completely split.”
And William – who has four-year-old son Prince George and two-year-old daughter Princess Charlotte with his wife the Duchess of Cambridge – has admitted it took a long time for reality to sink in.
He added: “And it took me a while for it to actually sink in.”

Prince William has reportedly broken royal protocol

OHMYGOSSIP — The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have reportedly broken royal protocol.
The royal couple have recently jetted off across the globe accompanied by their children Prince George, four, and two-year-old Princess Charlotte, but the family are reportedly not supposed to travel together for their public appearances.
According to The Sun Online the royal protocol states Prince William, 35, should not be on the same mode of transport as another heir to the throne, which his oldest child is.
However, this action should also apply for Princess Charlotte and her sibling, as they are third and fourth in line to rule Britain.
This traditional view was put in place many years ago when members of the royal family began to travel via aircraft because officials felt extra precautions needed to be taken to protect the King or Queen and their family.
A spokesperson for the royal family previously said: “While there is no official rule on this, it is something that the Queen has the final say on.”
Meanwhile, the William and Catherine – who was formerly known as Kate Middleton before she married the royal – have put in place their own rules for their brood as they are believed to have banned their children from using iPads because they don’t want their kids to become reliant on technology for entertainment and want to encourage them to use their imaginations.
A source previously said: “They’re very much seen as Mummy and Daddy’s toys, not for children.
“As two people who grew up without gadgets for entertainment themselves, William and Kate are firm believers in toys, outdoor play, and encouraging an active imagination. They’re very much a normal family.”

Meghan Markle spends ‘two hours’ preparing for Suits

OHMYGOSSIP — Meghan Markle spends “two hours” in hair and make-up prior to filming ‘Suits’.
The 36-year-old actress portrays Rachel Zane in the popular American drama series, and the star has admitted a lot of work goes into her appearance when she is shooting for the production, which sees her don a set of figure hugging underwear as well as an intense hair and make-up session.
Speaking about her preparation ahead of being in front of the camera to the American publication The Star, the brunette beauty – who is currently dating Prince Harry – said: “People watch me as Rachel Zane on the show, who’s so polished and so put together … in real life that is not what it looks like.
“But that includes Spanx and two hours of hair and make-up.”
But the American star has hinted she was surprised by her character’s wardrobe, which she believes is unlike the dress sense any other paralegal would have.
Speaking previously about her costume, she said: “People often say dress for the part that you want, not the part that you have, and I can’t think of any paralegal that was dressing like Rachel did.
“She was dressing for the role and the seriousness that she wanted people to treat her with.”
However, Meghan does believe Rachel’s attire is “crisp” and contributes to making her character feel “confident”.
She added: “Rachel’s quintessential power look is a crisp, white button-down with the collar a little popped, sleeves rolled up and a high-waisted pencil skirt. It’s a look that makes her feel confident and come across like she really means business.”

Prince William felt Princess Diana’s presence at her funeral

OHMYGOSSIP — The Duke of Cambridge felt his late mother Princess Diana walking “beside” him at her funeral procession.
The 35-year-old lost his parent in 1997 when he was only 15 years old, and Prince William has admitted when he and his younger brother Prince Harry held the coffin he could feel his mother’s presence helping him get through.
Speaking in a BBC One documentary titled ‘Diana, 7 Days’, William said: “It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done.
“I felt like she was almost walking along beside us, to get us through it.”
And William – who has four-year-old son Prince George and two-year-old daughter Princess Charlotte with his wife the Duchess of Catherine – has revealed he can remember the sadness that hit every guest at Diana’s funeral, which he noticed when he shook people’s wet hands from where they wiped away their tears.
He explained: “I remember people’s hands were wet because of the tears that they’d just wiped away.”
The programme will air on August 27 to mark the 20th anniversary since Diana passed away, which William and Harry decided to go ahead with because they felt they had let their mother down.
Speaking previously, William said: “Part of the reason why Harry and I want to do this is because we feel we owe it to her. I think an element of it is feeling like we let her down when we were younger.
“We couldn’t protect her. We feel we at least owe her 20 years on to stand up for her name and remind everybody of the character and person that she was. Do our duties as sons in protecting her.”
