Lenny Kravitz’s five-minute record deal

OHMYGOSSIP — Virgin Records offered Lenny Kravitz his first record deal within five minutes.
The 54-year-old rocker was only granted a five-minute meeting with record executives but they were so blown away by his music that he was quickly offered a deal.
He told Variety: “I didn’t make ‘Let Love Rule’ on a label. I borrowed money, went to the cheapest studios I could find. I was into a very psychedelic phase. ‘Let Love Rule’ had an old-school quality while having a new-school quality. So I recorded the record, and then I began to take it around. At one point everyone except Virgin had heard it. I had five minutes on a Friday afternoon before people were going home [there]. When I left the building, I had a record deal. They did not know how to market it — they admitted it. But we believed in the music, and that’s why it happened.”
However, Lenny experienced disappointment before his big break as he was turned away from record labels who claimed his music wasn’t “black enough”.
Lenny – who is known for his brand of psychedelic funk rock – said: “I just knew that I was singing and performing my truth. This was a time right after everybody in the music industry was telling me that I couldn’t do this sort of thing. I would take my music around to the labels, and I would get the whole ‘It’s not black enough’ [response].
“So people were not into the music that I was making or didn’t know how to sell it or how to market it. I was offered deals if I would simply change my music. I never took the deal. I wanted to do my thing. I was living in my car. I had no money. I’m young and in my late teens and who wouldn’t take the money, but there was just something inside of me that wouldn’t let me do it.”

John McCririck: ‘I’m dying’

OHMYGOSSIP — John McCririck claims he is dying.
The 78-year-old former racing pundit says losing his TV career when he was axed by Channel 4 in 2012 after 28 years has adversely affected his health and he believes he has only months to live.
He told the Daily Mail: “What purpose is there in going on if you’re not working?
“Racing was my life but now when I go I think: ‘What am I doing here?’ I feel like a dinosaur. You’re a lost soul wandering around an environment you’re no longer part of.
“Life is empty. I don’t expect to be alive this time next year. It’s a question of slipping away.
“I’ve prepared the Booby [his wife, Jenny] for it. When I’m gone she knows exactly what to do and she’ll be fine.
“I’m pining. The broken heart is for a lost job. Work comes first. Put that in capital letters. I always worked. It’s the most important thing in life.
“I’ve had a chest infection and I seem to have a cold all the time but they [the doctors] can’t find anything. I wish they could. I’ve been examined, had blood tests — all that kind of thing. I’m sure it all started when I was sacked because you get more and more…
“I hope I’m not self-pitying because I don’t self-pity, but when you wake up in the morning you just feel miserable. There’s no routine. I have ‘Jeremy Kyle’, ‘This Morning’ and that’s about it.”
John – who lost three stone after a severe bout of flu – was sacked for using “offensive” and “disgusting” language and later sued Channel 4 for ageism but lost.
He said: “I was devastated when we lost the tribunal, but it was what was said behind the scenes — what we read in the emails used as evidence — that was so hurtful.
“When I saw Channel 4’s documents at the tribunal then I knew — I knew what people thought of me.”

Joe Sugg and Dianne Buswell are inseparable

OHMYGOSSIP — Joe Sugg and Dianne Buswell are “inseparable” after she split from her boyfriend.
‘Strictly Come Dancing’ professional dancer Dianne’s relationship with actor Anthony Quinlan ended earlier this month and she has been spending more and more time with her ‘Strictly’ partner Joe since then.
A source told the Daily Mirror: “Joe and Dianne are completely inseparable – they are spending every waking moment together, even after rehearsals.
“Joe has even been inviting Dianne back to his house and they have been staying up to all hours chatting and hanging out.”
A spokesperson for Dianne announced the split, saying: “Due to their busy schedules and distance, they have split, but still remain really close friends.”
Joe, 27, previously revealed Dianne, 29, has been hugely supportive during his time on the show and has been offering words of encouragement and even praised his long neck, which has caught the attention of fans on social media.
He said: “My pro partner Dianne says that I’ve got a good ear for music and my rhythm is getting better.
“She also pointed out that I have a long neck, which is good for ballroom, the style I’m most looking forward to. There’s already five Twitter accounts called Support Joe’s Neck, which shows what my fan base is like!”
Although Joe has a huge group of younger admirers, he admitted he was prepared for the older generation to be more unfamiliar with his work.
He said: “I was prepared for the “who’s he?” backlash when they announced the line-up. But I do appreciate that there’s a whole generation who don’t know who I am.
“There will, however, be youngsters in their families that do. And that’s the reason I’m doing ‘Strictly’. If I can help to bring families together on a Saturday night, that’s a massive win in my book.”

Paul McCartney praises ‘modern’ White Album

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Paul McCartney thinks the ‘White Album’ sounds like a record by a “modern band”.
The legendary musician listened back to The Beatles’ iconic album while preparing for the new reissue, and he told the son of the famed ‘fifth Beatle’ Sir George Martin how contemporary it still feels.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper at the Abbey Road studio, Giles Martin revealed: “The last person to sit right there with me was Paul McCartney.
“We listened to The White Album mix and Paul said, ‘I never realised how modern this record sounds. This could be a band today.’ ”
The new project has seen the record’s 30 tracks becoming a staggering 107 for the latest collection, and it sounded like Paul, 76, took the chance to reflect while he was going through the original LP.
Giles added: “When I went through The White Album with Paul recently, he really wanted to hear the song Julia again.
“I always thought it was just a John song but now I think Paul was kind of producing it.
“And while Paul was writing ‘Hey Jude’ (recorded at the sessions), there was talk of dropping the line that eventually became ‘don’t carry the world upon your shoulders’ but John said to Paul, ‘That’s your best lyric,’ and of course it stayed.”
Although even the late John Lennon himself – who completed the Fab Four with Ringo Starr and George Harrison – once suggested the ‘White Album’ sounded like a band breaking up, Giles has suggested that the recordings from the sessions paint a different picture.
He said: “I looked for fractiousness and I couldn’t find it. That bond between John and Paul still existed. It doesn’t sound like an unhappy time.”

Ashley Roberts romantically linked to Giovanni Pernice

OHMYGOSSIP — Strictly Come Dancing’s Ashley Roberts and Giovanni Pernice have been romantically linked after “really hitting it off”.
The 37-year-old singer – who is partnered with Pasha Kovalev on the BBC Latin and ballroom show – and the 28-year-old pro dancer, who is teamed up with Steps singer Faye Tozer, are said to have developed a spark after heading out for some drinks together.
A TV insider told The Sun newspaper: “The spark between Ashley and Giovanni has become quite widely noticed among the crew – they just seem to really hit it off.
“He is training up north at the moment while she is based down here so they only get to see each other towards the end of the week. But they’ve been making the most of it.
“After the show each week they’ve been heading out for drinks together in London and just hanging out and looking very cosy.”
Ashley – who previously dated Declan Donnelly – and Giovanni, who was in a relationship with his former 2015 ‘Strictly’ partner Georgia May Foote until their 2016 split, are said to be enjoying “totally innocent fun” together.
The insider added: “It’s very early days but it looks like things are going well – and of course they’re both single so it’s all totally innocent fun.”
Earlier this year, Giovanni – who was romantically linked to TOWIE’s Jess Wright following his split from Georgia – spoke of his desire to settle down and have a “big family” at some point.
He said: “Of course I want to settle, darling, I’m Italian. I want to have a big family, it’s just not the time.
“I’m 27 years old – I really want to dance has much as I can.”

David Bowie wouldn’t let Glastonbury set air live

OHMYGOSSIP — David Bowie wouldn’t let his Glastonbury Fesival headline set to be aired live in 2000.
The late music icon – who tragically passed away aged 69 in January 2016 – played on the Pyramid Stage 18 years ago, but the BBC weren’t allowed to show more than half an hour from the career-spanning performance.
Mark Cropper – who has long been the producer of the BBC’s coverage of the Worthy Farm festival – told The Guardian newspaper: “I think Bowie knew exactly what he was doing on the night of 25 June 2000.
“He wasn’t about to give away his peak performance or his catalogue for nothing.
“He hoarded that night so that one day it could be shown in all its glory as his legacy, the culmination of his golden years and surely his greatest concert since he buried Ziggy Stardust at Hammersmith in July 1973.
“It’s a time capsule of his life, ready to be shared with us now that the stars have aligned.”
The legendary headline performance will be released in full for the first time next month, and it will be available on DVD, CD, vinyl and digitally from November 30.
The show – which will also air on BBC Four on Friday (26.10.18) at 10.55pm – still remains a favourite of co-organiser Emily Eavis.
She previously said: “I often get asked what the best set I’ve seen here at Glastonbury is, and Bowie’s 2000 performance is always one which I think of first.
“It was spellbinding; he had an absolutely enormous crowd transfixed.”

Craig Revel Horwood: Strictly Come Dancing curse is a blessing

OHMYGOSSIP — Craig Revel Horwood thinks the ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ curse is a “blessing”.
The 53-year-old dancer and judge believes the infamous curse – which most recently saw comedian Seann Walsh kiss his professional dancing partner Katya Jones, despite both being in relationships at the time – is actually a good thing and has produced some “gorgeous” pairings.
He said: “In a sensitive person it would affect them and I know it affected Seann and Katya a lot, that whole story, because it went global.
“For what reason, I have no clue because there have been a lot of pairings that have been absolutely gorgeous.
“You know there’s been Kristina Rihanoff and Ben Cohen, they’ve had a baby, Jimmy Mistry, Flavia Cacace, fantastic. So the curse, which I call the blessing, I think you just have to deal with it, get on with it.”
And the sharp-tongued TV personality thinks it happens because “people find love when they are not in love”.
He added to The Sun newspaper: “I call it the blessing because I think people find love when they are not in love. I think that’s how love sort of works. I think you have to be in a relationship that is failing to be able to send out those vibes anyway.
“So that’s my personal opinion. Not an opinion of a BBC representative obviously because I don’t know what their opinion is but mine is they should go on, do their job, do the dance of shame. Like the walk if shame and get on with it.”

Sandi Toksvig confirms The Great British Bake Off return

OHMYGOSSIP — Sandi Toksvig, Noel Fielding, Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood will all be back for the next series of ‘The Great British Bake Off’.
The 60-year-old TV presenter has confirmed that her and the ‘Mighty Boosh’ star will return to host the next series of the Channel 4 baking show while baker Paul and chef-and-author Prue will also return to judge the new bakers.
She told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “I think we are good to go … The gang this year were exceptional. We’ve wept and laughed.
“The final is more nerve-racking than any other show.”
This year’s final takes place next Tuesday (30.10.18), where Ruby Bhogal, Rahul Mandal and Kim-Joy will battle to be 2018 champion.
Paul recently teased this year’s final could be the “best” ever because the standard has been set so high.
He said: “It’s going to be a fantastic final next week. We have got three great bakers and each one of them has this very artistic flair. If they bring their A-game, that is going to be the best final ever – I promise you.”
The nation were shocked when ‘The Great British Bake Off’ moved to Channel 4 but Richard McKerrow – the owner of Love Productions, the company behind the hugely popular programme – revealed he decided to do so because he felt the series was “under threat” at the BBC.
Richard said: “It was to protect the format for all sorts of reasons. It was not all about money. We felt the format was under threat at the BBC. It was not something we wanted to do. It was something we felt impelled to do. Channel 4 felt the safest place, as a public-service broadcaster. Not that there weren’t a few nervous times in the period post going to C4, but deep down we knew what the format was. It is about the baking and the bakers.”

Cindy Crawford looked up to Meryl Streep

OHMYGOSSIP — Cindy Crawford looked up to “beautiful women” like “Jane Fonda and Meryl Streep” when she was growing up and dreaming of a modelling career.
The 52-year-old supermodel ruled the fashion world in the ’90s and along with Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista, Helena Christensen, Naomi Campbell, Elle Macpherson and Claudia Schiffer was dubbed ‘The Magnificent Seven’ of the catwalk.
When she was still wide-eyed and hoping to make it as a model, Cindy was a fan of the Hollywood pair’s style and grace but was also interested in women who had achieved in science because she harboured ambitions of being a nuclear physicist.
She said: “I really looked up to, of course, beautiful women like Marilyn Monroe and I loved Jane Fonda and Meryl Streep. But I also like strong women and also professional women. When I was a kid, I wanted to be a nuclear physicist, so I looked up to women that were scientists.”
Cindy is still a strikingly beautiful woman now she’s in her sixth decade and she has been looking to the Hollywood starlets of the past and their “timeless beauty” as she alters her approach to clothes and makeup.
Speaking to Vogue UK, she said: “I’m trying to figure that out as we go along. I think timeless beauty, it’s not about fashion, it’s not about trend, if you look at someone like Audrey Hepburn, of course, she was undeniably, like, perfection when she was Holly Golightly … but even as a mature woman, there was a beauty. And I think a lot of that has as much to do with who she was on the inside and what she was doing, and I saw it on her face, like her self-confidence, but also just feeling she was giving back and contributing, there’s a beauty in that.
Cindy’s 17-year-old daughter Kaia Gerber – who recently signed to be a Yves Saint Laurent beauty ambassador – is now following in her mother’s footsteps in the modelling world and she is loves seeing her journey unfold.
The brunette beauty – who also has son Presley, 19, with her husband Rande Gerber – said: “In terms of the young models, I have a favourite, her name is Kaia, but what’s been fun has been, before she was modelling, when she was 13, I was interested in who she liked and who she responded to.
“Of course, she looked up to Kendall and Gigi and Bella, but also… I’m trying to think who else she loved, like Victoria [Seretti] is one of her close friends, I like Selena Forrest. It’s kind of cool being Kaia’s mom because I get to know the young models as well.”

Matt Willis hated wedding photos

OHMYGOSSIP — Matt Willis has “burned” his wedding photos.
The Busted rocker had been to rehab for alcohol and drug addictions twice before he tied the knot with presenter Emma Willis in 2008, but he didn’t get sober until his third stint of treatment later that year and he admitted he used to cringe looking back at the pictures from their big day.
He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “I was a massive, bloated, wreck-head. A sweaty, chubby, d**khead…
“I looked terrible. I’ve burnt the other ones. I looked like a competition winner stood next to Emma Willis.”
In July, Matt, 35, and Emma – who have children Isabelle, nine, Ace, six, and two-year-old Trixie together – marked their tenth wedding anniversary with a vow renewal ceremony, at which the ‘Voice’ presenter and their female guests wore their original wedding gowns, and the ‘What I Go To School For’ hitmaker admitted he agreed to the celebration so he finally had some nice photos of himself next to the 42-year-old beauty in her bridal wear.
He said: “I redeemed myself. If I’m honest, that’s why I said yes to the whole idea. I needed a good picture of me and Emma in that wedding dress, because she looks amazing.”
Though the couple loved their vow renewal ceremony, Matt recently admitted he and Emma were also “a bit embarrassed” because they worried their celebration was “a bit cheesy”.
He said: “It was an amazing day. Although, I’ll be honest, we were a little embarrassed at the time, it was one of those ideas where we thought it would be cool but when we got to it then it seemed a bit cheesy and awful and we felt a bit embarrassed.”

Hollyoaks’ Adam Woodward teases Sienna Blake ‘passion’

OHMYGOSSIP — Adam Woodward says there is “more passion” to come between Hollyoaks’ Sienna Blake and his character Brody Hudson.
The ‘Oaks’ star’s alter-ego has been “struggling” in recent weeks after revealing all about the abuse he suffered in the past, but he looks set to turn to Sienna (Anna Passey), despite her initial reluctance to get together with him after he dated her sister Liberty Savage (Jessamy Stoddart).
Adam said: “Sienna has told Brody to stay away romantically, but he’s definitely a little smitten with her. We’ll see if he can develop things this week.
“Brody finds it difficult to open up to anyone, but Sienna having been through trauma herself, makes her an easier person to talk to. So, more passion between the two is yet to come.”
Love will also be in the air for Jacob Roberts’ character Damon Kinsella, when he starts dating a mystery “brunette” beauty in the coming weeks.
Jacob explained: “Damon will have a new love interest in the upcoming weeks, all I can reveal is that she’s a brunette.
“There will be a serious storyline involving the pair, and I’m excited for the future of their relationship.”
It’s set to be a difficult week for Damon as his dad Buster Smith (Nathan Sussex) is to plead not guilty to his child abuse sex crimes after he groomed Brody and Ollie Morgan (Aedan Duckworth), but Damon will try to convince his father to admit to what he has done.
Jacob said: “It’s Buster’s plea hearing this week, and after Damon hears his plans to plead not guilty, he decides to pay him a visit.
“He’s finished with him now, and he doesn’t even want to call him dad anymore. Buster refuses to admit what he’s done, but Damon can see right through him.”

Duchess Meghan sells out yet another dress

OHMYGOSSIP — Duchess Meghan has caused yet another dress to sell out in every size after wearing a beautiful blue outfit on the second day of her visit to Tonga with her husband Prince Harry on Friday (26.10.18)
The 37-year-old royal – who is expecting her first child with Harry, 34 – donned a $595 gorgeous sky blue shirt dress by American brand Veronica Beard from their ready-to-wear collection whilst attending the unveiling of The Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy at Tupou College.
Meghan teamed the ‘Cary dress’ with a pair of her go-to brand Aquazzura’s baby-blue Amandine pumps and her hair in a low ponytail, and within hours of the tour images being shared online, the gown was no longer available to buy.
This isn’t the first time the former ‘Suits’ actress – who was known as Meghan Markle before she married into the British royal family in May – has had websites crashing with fans eager to get their hands on the coveted pieces she’s been pictured in, which has now been dubbed ‘The Meghan effect’.
Earlier this month, the duchess opted for a silk olive shirt by the Swedish brand when she and Harry visited Sussex on their first official visit to the county that features in their royal titles.
Meghan has attracted plenty of attention for her simple-but-chic looks on the tour of her 16-day tour of Australia, New Zealand, Tonga and Fiji and even wore a piece from her pal Serena Williams’ fashion line.
On the second day of her royal tour when she went to Dubbo, Meghan wore a grey blazer from the tennis icon’s collection.
The royal opted to wear a double-button style blazer with patch pockets and a red-and-blue windowpane pattern.
Serena, 37, was thrilled that her friend sported her blazer – which has now sold out – and took to Instagram to reveal her joy, sharing a picture of the duke and duchess holding hands and smiling.
She wrote: “The face you make when you and Duchess of Sussex Meghan have matching @serena blazers.” (sic)

Carey Mulligan bombarded with texts after husband’s wedding yawn

OHMYGOSSIP — Carey Mulligan received “15,000” text messages after her husband Marcus Mumford was caught yawning at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wedding.
The couple weren’t expecting to be on camera during the nuptials between Prince Harry and the then-Meghan Markle at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle in May because there were so many other famous faces in attendance, so the ‘Great Gatsby’ actress was mortified when she turned her phone back on after the ceremony and learned the world had seen her spouse’s faux pas.
She recalled: “We were all chatting with my friends and my husband was like, ‘Give us a kiss’, and I was like, ‘I’m not going to give you a kiss there’s cameras’. He said, ‘Well George Clooney is here and Elton John is here and the Beckhams, they’re not filming us.'”
Talk show host Jimmy Kimmel then interrupted to introduce a clip and said: “I’m glad you brought this up because I do actually have a clip here of Marcus Mumford, your sweetheart… We come to you and Marcus yawns. So when something like that happens and the whole world is watching, did you know he was on?”
Carey replied: “No we were convinced there were so many absurdly famous people that we were not going to be allowed on camera at all.
“Of course it finishes and we are allowed to turn our phones back on. We have 15,000 messages going, ‘Marcus you yawned on TV!’ ”
The 33-year-old actress – who has children Evelyn, three, and Wilfred, 14 months, with the Mumford & Sons frontman – admitted the wedding went on for a “long” time, but she, her 31-year-old spouse and their friends had rushed to get there after seeing media mogul Oprah Winfrey was among the early arrivals.
She recalled: “We all got up at 5am but we got to our friends house and we were watching the TV and we saw Oprah going in.
“We were like, ‘Of Oprah’s there we can’t be after Oprah’, so we all hustled to the church and we got in but then it was like a two hour wait for everyone to come.
“It was lovely and atmospheric and beautiful but kind of a long time.”

Chloe Ferry will change tattoo to say ‘ham’ if she splits with Sam Gowland

OHMYGOSSIP — Chloe Ferry will change her tattoo to say “ham” if she splits with Sam Gowland.
The 23-year-old reality star – who has been dating Sam since he joined the cast of ‘Geordie Shore’ last year – has already decided how she would remove the ‘Sam’ tattoo on her wrist if the pair were to go their separate ways.
Speaking to The Sun Online and ‘Just Tattoo Of Us’ co-host Charlotte Crosby, she said: “I’d change the S so it would be like ‘ham’ or I could change it to ‘salmonella’. I’ve seen one on Facebook where the belly button was like a bum hole. But every single tattoo I have is f***ing s***e. Every single one, not one of them is good. I have one on my leg that’s not spelt right, I’ve got a chicken on my finger. Never spelt ‘nerer’, all the punctuation is wrong.”
This confession comes just days after rumours surfaced that the pair had split.
The curvaceous babe has posted four consecutive emotionally distressed tweets about feeling “low” and needing to concentrate on herself, which led her followers to conclude she’s separated from Sam.
She posted: “When someone can leave you when your feeling so low about your self they are not worth it!! … Sometimes in life you just need to take a step away and just think about your self … Crazy how everything can be so perfect and the next it’s all gone so quickly time for new starts in life (sic)”
Despite speculation, Sam quickly cleared up the issue and insisted the tweets were about a row not a split.

Bella Penfold likens X Factor house to Ibiza holiday

OHMYGOSSIP — Bella Penfold has likened ‘The X Factor’ house to an “Ibiza holiday”.
The contestants are supposedly on a strict alcohol and sex ban but contestant Bella – who is in the girls category and is being mentored by show boss Simon Cowell – insists they are all having a great time.
She said: “I absolutely love living in the house, it’s like going on a group holiday to Ibiza with all your friends – apart from we’re working really hard, which is cool. We’ve been told under strict instruction there is no fraternising with any of the staff or any of the contestants. That was one of the rules, but everyone’s stuck to it really well. A lot of people have got partners and everyone is being really respectful.”
However, Bella confessed that the house – which is currently home to 14 acts, including a 15 piece choir, a five piece boy band and two duos, Acacia and Alicia and Misunderstood – does get messy.
She added to The Sun Online: “Some people are a little messier than others, some go to sleep earlier than others, but it’s about finding the balance and being considerate of other people. It does get messy in here just because we are all up at different times, getting ready really quickly. We come back and have to tidy up. If you ask people nicely they will usually comply with what you’re asking of them. Everyone’s being really really good. There’s no friction in the house at all. It’s amazing we all have the same interests. It’s not like we’ve got nothing to talk about, it’s not like we don’t get on. We all have this amazing passion for performing and singing.”

Lady Colin Campbell knew something was ‘awry’ with marriage

OHMYGOSSIP — Lady Colin Campbell knew something was “awry” with her marriage just hours after she tied the knot.
The 69-year-old writer tied the knot with Lord Colin Ivar Campbell in 1974 but just moments after they said ‘I do’, Lady C felt something was wrong “because he was the only man she had ever met who didn’t leap on her”.
Speaking about her “disastrous” marriage to Lord Colin Ivar Campbell, she said: “Within five days. We married in the morning and by the afternoon I realised that something was awry because he was the only man I had ever met who didn’t leap on me. I mean up until then I was used to having to fight them off. I think he only married me for my money.”
Lady C joined ‘Celebrity First Dates’ to find love and was looking for a man, not a mouse.
Explaining her ideal man on the dating show, she shared: “He has to be a man, I don’t like mice . He doesn’t have to be upper class but he has to be able to fit into the upper class world. But I don’t think he exists.”
And on the show, the former ‘I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here’ star hit it off with her date with Matthew, and the pair ended up having tea in her castle.
