Lena Dunham is writing a new movie about a Syrian refugee’s fight for survival

OHMYGOSSIP — Lena Dunham is writing a new movie about a Syrian refugee’s fight for survival.
The ‘Girls’ creator has been hired to adapt Melissa Fleming’s book ‘A Hope More Powerful Than the Sea: One Refugee’s Incredible Story of Love, Loss, and Survival’ which tells the story of Doaa Al Zamel’s life.
Doaa leaves flees war-ravaged Syria with her two young children to Egypt and there she falls in love with former Free Syrian Army fighter Bassem but as the political situation becomes more unstable together the couple make the decision to start a new life together in Europe.
However, after four days at sea the boat is shipwrecked and Doaa must fight to keep herself and her children alive whilst clinging to an inflatable.
Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Partners and J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot companies are co-producing the film and it will be distributed by Paramount Pictures and Amblin. Arif Hussein will serve as executive producer.
The announcement comes just days after Lena announced she has been sober for six months after “misusing” anti-anxiety medication for three years.
The 32-year-old writer-and-actress began taking Klonopin when she was unable to participate in daily activities and her anxiety was hindering her work, and she found the drug made her feel “like the person [she] was supposed to be”.
Speaking to Dax Shepard on his podcast ‘Armchair Expert’, she said: “If I look back, there were a solid three years where I was, to put it lightly, misusing benzos, even though it was all quote unquote doctor prescribed … I’ve been sober for six months. My particular passion was Klonopin. I was having crazy anxiety and having to show up for things that I didn’t feel equipped to show up for. But I know I need to do it, and when I take a Klonopin, I can do it. [It made me] feel like the person I was supposed to be. It was like suddenly I felt like the part of me that I knew was there was freed up to do her thing.”

Little Mix insist Nicki Minaj was asked first to appear on ‘Woman Like Me’ – not Cardi B

OHMYGOSSIP — Little Mix insist Nicki Minaj was asked first to appear on ‘Woman Like Me’ – not Cardi B.
The latter had claimed she was the girls’ first choice to rap on their current single in one of a series of videos she posted ranting about her bitter rival on Instagram on Monday night (29.10.18), but the ‘Shout Out To My Ex’ hitmakers have since rebuked Cardi’s comments.
The ‘I Like It’ rapper moaned in an Instagram clip: “Then, that Woman Like Me record … Yeah I had to decline it because I’m doing a lot of pop records so I can’t over exaggerate myself but that came to me first. (sic)”
However, Perrie Edwards, Jade Thirlwall, Jesy Nelson and Leigh-Anne Pinnock took to their Instagram profile to “clarify” Cardi’s claims, writing: “Sorry Cardi hun but this is the tea. We’ve always wanted the queen (no shade).”
Alongside the note, they wrote: “We just want to clarify … Nicki was approached first (swipe for date) #WomanLikeMe @nickiminaj @iamcardib
The girls x (sic)”
Nicki also continued her feud with Cardi – which was heightened after an altercation between the pair at New York Fashion Week – by commenting on the video and informing her that the ‘Power’ hitmakers had waited a long time to get her on a song.
She wrote: “Babe we all get deals and turn them down. Same with songs dummy. Little Mix has been trying to get me on a song for 7 Years. I finally found one I loved. (sic)”
Adding fuel to the fire, Jade then showed her support for Nicki by liking the comment.
And if that wasn’t enough, the ‘Anaconda’ hitmaker then took to Twitter to slam Cardi for not writing her own songs.
She tweeted: “The only rapper in the history of rap who can only talk about deals and songs she’s supposedly turned down cuz she can’t talk about a verse she’s ever written. Fkn fraud (sic).”
The 35-year-old star later appeared to have calmed down as she asked her 20.8 million followers to spread positivity, and insisted she wouldn’t be commenting any further.
She signed off: “Ok you guys, let’s focus on positive things only from here on out. We’re all so blessed. I know this stuff is entertaining & funny to a lot of people but I won’t be discussing this nonsense anymore. Thank you for the support & encouragement year after year. Love you. (sic)”

Boyzone feel like they’ve come “full circle” by having Take That’s Gary Barlow pen their song ‘Love’

OHMYGOSSIP — Boyzone feel like they’ve come “full circle” by having Take That’s Gary Barlow pen their song ‘Love’.
The Irish boyband – comprised of Ronan Keating, Shane Lynch, Mikey Graham and Keith Duffy – were always pitted against the ‘Back For Good’ hitmakers back in the 90s, but they insist they’ve actually always been really good friends with their rivals and are honoured to have teamed up Gary on the new track.
Mikey said: “The true dynamics of our relationship with Take That are far different from the ones perceived by the public.
“I was just on holiday with Gary in March – there has never been any malice.”
Shane revealed the ‘No Matter What’ hitmakers were marketed as an Irish version of Take That, and says he feels privileged to be able to give “amazing” Gary and co a nod.
He told OfficialCharts.com: “We were set up as the Irish Take That, so if anything, it’s an honour to pay homage to such an amazing group.
“I’ve never listened to one Take That record and thought ‘that’s s**t’. I’ve always thought: “that’s a f**king great record, lads’.”
Mikey recalled a time before he was in Boyzone when he saw Take That and dreamed of emulating their success one day.
He added: “I remember one time in Dublin many, many years ago, before [Boyzone] had even started, I went in one particular club and saw them [Take That] in the V.I.P. area.
“I’d seen the guys there and I thought, ‘you know what, one day I’m going to be up there as well’.
“To come 25 years later and Gary’s a mate of mine – to be on a par to some degree, it’s full circle. Who would have thought, you know?”
‘Love’ is the second single to be taken from the band’s final album, ‘Thank You & Goodnight’, and follows the Ed Sheeran-penned song ‘Because’.
The band head out on a farewell tour in January after releasing the record on November 16.

Susanna Reid goes raving with Judge Rinder

OHMYGOSSIP — Susanna Reid and Judge Robert Rinder go raving in Ibiza every summer.
The ‘Good Morning Britain’ host hit it off with the barrister when he was a guest on the show in 2014 and they look forward to partying hard on the island during her annual six-week break.
She said: “Oh, we let our hair down. That’s my four days in the year when I have no responsibilities.”
The 47-year-old presenter – who has sons Sam, 16, Finn, 14, and Jack, 13, with former partner Dominic Cotton – also enjoys at least two booze-filled nights out a year with her co-host Piers Morgan, which usually end in gay bar Freedom at 4am.
She told You magazine: “[We go there] because that’s the one that’s open. We just have drinks. I’ve never raved with Piers. His favourite song? ‘In Da Club’ by 50 Cent.”
The pair regularly bicker on screen but Susanna insists they are still great “friends” – but he’s the only one of her pals she also “hates”.
She said: “Whatever happens, he’s my friend. There has to be mutual respect otherwise you couldn’t work together. But he’s the only one of my friends who I also hate.
“He winds me up, but he’s a wind-up merchant, isn’t he?”
Susanna joined ‘GMB’ from rival show ‘BBC Breakfast’ and while she was bound by impartiality rules on her old programme, she enjoys the fact she can express her views every day.
She said: “I come out fighting every morning. I relish that.”
And the former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ presenter doesn’t let any of the stress of the show or the online backlash she receives get to her.
She said: “I have developed epic levels of zen.
“I come off a programme sometimes and feel like I’ve been through a spin dryer; I course with adrenaline. But my job is getting better, the ratings are getting better. It just gets noisier.
“I’m very happy right now. As you can tell, I think.”

Kym Marsh: Simon Gregson is ‘hysterical’ on set

OHMYGOSSIP — Kym Marsh finds it “hard” working alongside Simon Gregson – because he’s “so hysterical”.
The ‘Coronation Street’ actress – who plays Michelle Connor on the ITV soap – admits her co-star (Steve McDonald) cracks her up so much he must have been born with “funny bones”, which makes it “very difficult” not to laugh while the pair are shooting scenes together.
Speaking about Simon’s Inside Soap Awards success last week, she said: “Simon Gregson won Funniest Male and no wonder – he’s got funny bones, that one.
“I sometimes find it hard working with him because she’s so hysterical.
“Simon plays Steve McDonald, who is the great comedic character, and my character Michelle Connor is the straight man. It’s very difficult to keep a straight face.”
‘Corrie’ won big at the ceremony last Monday (22.10.18), scooping Best Soap, and Jack P. Shepherd (David) won the Best Actor accolade, and Kym admits her co-stars are “so proud” of the 30-year-old star.
She said: “It was very well deserved. He was a little boy when he joined the show in 2000, and now he’s grown – not just as an actor, but as a person.
“We’re all so proud.”
As well as Simon’s comedy success, Dolly-Rose Campbell won Funniest Female at the Soap Awards, and Kym is pleased the show is being recognised for its comical moments as well as dramatic storylines.
Writing in her OK! magazine column, she added: “It is great that we’re winning all the comedy awards alongside doing very serious storylines.”
This comes after ‘Corrie’ came under fire from several celebs earlier this year for being too violent, with Paul O’Grady comparing the soap to war-torn Syria.
He said: “It was about working class life in a little street, but now it’s like Syria.
“There used to be these wonderful vignettes in the Rovers – a conversation over nothing.”
Some of this year’s ‘Corrie’ storylines have seen evil serial killer Pat Phelan’s (Connor McIntyre) reign of terror finally come to an end, and David was raped by Josh Tucker (Ryan Clayton).

Star Wars’s Boba Fett film scrapped

OHMYGOSSIP — Star Wars’s Boba Fett standalone movie has been “100 per cent” scrapped.
The President of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy confirmed to a Critic’s Choice journalist, Erick Weber and later to Entertainment Weekly that the proposed project is “100 per cent dead” and instead, the company are planning to go full steam ahead on their highly-anticipated television series ‘The Mandalorian’.
Erick tweeted: “Kathleen Kennedy just confirmed to me Boba Fett movie is 100% dead, 100% focusing on THE MANDALORIAN #StarWars” (sic)
Jon Favreau is casting for the live-action series ‘The Mandalorian’ and admitted the “Star Wars universe” will see the emergence of a new “lone gunfighter warrior”.
A statement from Favreau’s Instagram account read: “After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order.
“We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.”
Previously Disney boss Bob Iger revealed the studio were going to be more “careful” with the “volume and timing” of future films, so fans should expect a “slowdown” of spin-offs.
He said: “You can expect some slowdown… We are just at the point where we’re gonna start making decisions about what comes next after JJ’s (Star Wars Episode 9). But I think we’re gonna be a little bit more careful about volume and timing.
“That doesn’t mean we’re not gonna make films. JJ [Abrams] is busy making [Episode] IX. We have creative entities, including [Game of Thrones creators David] Benioff and [D.B.] Weiss, who are developing sagas of their own, which we haven’t been specific about.”
Boba Fett – who was played by Jeremy Bulloch – was first introduced in 1980’s ‘Empire Strikes Back’ and then appeared again in 1983’s ‘Return of the Jedi’ as the mercenary who brings Han Solo to the slug-like crime lord Jabba the Hutt.
Despite having a helmet over his face and very limited time onscreen, the character, with his jet pack and battle-scarred armour, grew to cult status.
Boba Fett’s escapades as a bounty hunter were detailed in various books, comics, animated series, video games, and merchandising.

Alexa Chung: Every wardrobe needs style pillars

OHMYGOSSIP — Alexa Chung says every wardrobe needs “staple items to act as the pillars or the architecture for the house you’re building”.
The 34-year-old model-turned-fashion designer thinks that every woman’s clothing collection should have a selection of staple items which act as the “architecture for the house you’re building”, and her must-have garments include denim, a blazer and “iconic trainers”.
In an interview with Vogue Australia, she said: “I think it’s about having enough staple items to act as the pillars or the architecture for the house you’re building. For the clothes, that would be the perfect denim, a great blazer, a really comfy sweater, maybe a plain white t-shirt, and some iconic sneakers. Then around that, you can incorporate like a Maryam Nassir Zadeh tiny handbag, or like a lime green see-through dress or some cycling shorts, or whatever! So you’ll have enough items to counter-balance the weirdness.”
Alexa thinks individualism is key in refining your personal style and before picking the perfect outfit it’s important to think about “how you want to feel that day”.
She said: “I think my whole opinion on personal style and getting dressed is that its personal experience, so I’ve never been someone who wants to give advice because I don’t think it should be prescriptive. I think people should find their own way, celebrate who they are and individualism is key!
“Get in the shower, have a think about how you want to feel that day and dress for the character you’re going to play.
“If you’re like I want to feel sexy and get laid then put on the suspenders and hope for the best, but if you’re like, I really need to be the boss today then I suppose it’s going to be a roll-neck jumper and a heel!”

OHMYGOSSIP — Olly Murs fears he’ll miss out on becoming a father because of his fame.
The 34-year-old singer – who dated property manager Francesca Thomas for three years until 2015 – would love to become a parent in the future, but he worries that being in the spotlight and pictured out “drinking and partying” could get in the way of his chance of settling down and starting a family.

“If I can meet the right person it would be an incredible thing to do. I’d like to think I’d be an incredible father and husband.
“The only reason why I don’t go out on dates is because I am too worried about the paps and I don’t like being pictured out drinking and partying.
“That’s not fair why can’t I go on a date with a girl? I feel I’ve got to be under pressure every time I go on a date – it’s frustrating. ”

It’s blue and I put on about four or five drops in my hand. “As you can see, I have really sensitive skin. You can see just touching it I turn red. And using this has really evened out my skin tone – I mean markedly!”
The ‘Will & Grace’ star uses the copper product in conjunction with vitamin C enriched Rescue Serum by her facialist Joanna Vargas and Amore Pacific’s Moisture Bound Skin Energy, which boosts skin’s natural moisture.

George Clooney’s less tame Casamigos experience

OHMYGOSSIP — George Clooney’s Halloween experience has been tame since becoming a father to twins Ella and Alexander.
The 57-year-old Hollywood legend joked that he missed out on the first night of his Casamigos party because he was busy at home changing his and wife Amal’s 16-month-old babies’ diapers.
Speaking at the second bash at the Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas on Sunday night (28.10.18), where he and his business partner Rande Gerber dressed as pilots, he laughed: “Last night they were dressed up as rockstars, and I was dressed up as a guy cleaning crap out of a baby’s diaper.
“It was a fantastic costume. Oh, so much fun, you could imagine the fun I had last night.”
Rande’s wife Cindy Crawford joined in the fun by donning an air hostess outfit, and captioned a picture of the three of them on Instagram: “Now boarding: @Casamigos Air #casamigoshalloween (sic)”
Speaking about their costume choices, the 52-year-old star told ‘Entertainment Tonight’: “You don’t want to do the same thing two nights in a row. Last night we kinda had a thing going with our kids and then tonight we are flying to Vegas, and it was like, I guess the whole flight thing.”

“I went as a milk carton with my face sticking out the side that said ‘Have you seen this child lately?’
“That was a bad one.
“I’ve done some terrible ones, but that was 30 years ago. I can’t be held responsible for that.”
Last year, George and Rande’s 70s-themed night on the Sunset Strip was attended by the likes of Kim Kardashian West and Sylvester Stallone.
The pair decided to sell their stake in the firm last year to the alcoholic beverage company Diageo, which agreed to pay $700 million to assume control of the brand, with the potential for another $300 million based on its performance over the next decade.

Matthew McConaughey meets with Hurricane Harvey first responders

OHMYGOSSIP — Matthew McConaughey surprised first responders of Hurricane Harvey in Texas on Sunday (28.10.18).
The ‘Gold’ actor posed for pictures with some of the “heroic men and women”, who worked tirelessly on the front line to help aid victims of the devastating tropical cyclone, which killed 68 people and caused $125 billion in damage to properties in his home state in September 2017.
The 48-year-old star – who hails from Austin – told E! News: “I’m Texas born and raised, so acknowledging the hard work and dedication of first responders in Houston is meaningful to me personally.
“Over the past year alone with the hurricanes in Puerto Rico, the Carolinas and Florida and the fires in California, the number of heroic men and women on the front lines of natural disasters is staggering.”
During his trip, which is part of Bourbon brand Wild Turkey’s ‘Wild Turkey Gives Back’ campaign, the ‘Dallas Buyers Club’ actor visited the Houston Fire Station, Police Department, Houston Emergency 911 Call Center and Ben Taub Hospital.
The Hollywood star was praised by the city’s Mayor Sylvester Turner for his efforts.
He wrote on Twitter: “Honored to welcome him to our city and thank him for spending time and recognizing our @houstonpolice, @HoustonFire, and 911 dispatchers for their service (sic)”
Matthew urged his fans to “keep giving” to the Hurricane Harvey relief efforts last year, despite newer disasters – such as Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria which struck Florida and the Caribbean – slowly pushing the destruction in Texas out of the headlines, as the star said the cause was just as important as ever.
He said: “You can sponsor a family that they rescued and is out of their home … up to a year. One hundred dollars a family member for one month. Just keep giving, just keep living and just get a Texas flag on it, because, as we all know, this will be back page news in the next month.”
The ‘Interstellar’ actor and his wife Camila Alves – with whom he has three children, Levi, 10, Vida, eight, and Livingston, five – helped the relief effort themselves, through their Just Keep Livin’ charity.
Just Keep Livin’ sold an exclusive t-shirt designed to raise money for the victims of the hurricane, which featured the Texan flag alongside the words “just keep givin, just keep livin”.

Mindy Kaling texted Oprah Winfrey in labour

OHMYGOSSIP — Mindy Kaling was texting Oprah Winfrey when she was in labour.
The 39-year-old star has revealed she is so honoured to be friends with the 64-year-old talk show host – who she starred in ‘A Wrinkle In Time’ with – that she didn’t mind answering her messages when she was giving birth to her daughter Katherine Swati – whose father’s name is being kept concealed by Mindy – in December last year.
Appearing on Busy Philipps’ ‘Busy Tonight’ show on Sunday (28.10.18), she recalled: “I’m not like Gayle [King] close with Oprah … but I would say we’re friends.
“I have her phone number … when I was in labour with my baby … she texted me about, something about like her magazine, and I remember, I am literally in labour, and I was like ‘Oh, of course, anything.’ … I’m in Cedars-Sinai, I’m there, hooked up to the thing … I didn’t even tell her I was like busy or in labour because I was like, ‘Anything you want, of course!”
Meanwhile, Mindy recently admitted she feels blessed to be able to shift her own workload to fit around her 10-month-old daughter.
She said: “I’m creating my own opportunities. And when I do that, my baby comes to work a couple times a week, and I live 15 minutes away from [work], and I create our schedule, so if I need to take her to the doctor I can. I know that’s not the case for everybody else, and I feel really lucky, but yeah, that’s my life right now.”
And the ‘Mindy Project’ star wants to encourage acceptance of women being able to bring their children to work.
She added: “You see all these photos of writers and you’re like, ‘Oh, there’s nobody with gray hair or anyone older than 40.’ And I’m 39, so that’s frightening, especially when you have a baby. But what I’ve been noticing more and more is that there are more working women. And the writers’ room … is one of the most ageist places ever.
“There’s more mature people working on shows. I think that’s gonna be the next big push, actually, is making places so you can be a mom, have your kids, bring your kids to work if you need to. That’s what Tracey Wigfield and I are doing on our new show. But I think it’s a tiny bit sexist as well, and people are worried that because you have kids you won’t be able to pay more attention. Any mother will tell you it makes you so razor-sharp focused on your career because you’re so worried about money.”

Jorgie Porter’s football goal

OHMYGOSSIP — Jorgie Porter wanted to be a professional footballer when she was younger.
The former ‘Hollyoaks’ actress harboured ambitions of being a ballet star during her formative years but then switched to dreams of playing for England at Wembley, until she realised she didn’t quite have the talent required to be the next Fara Williams – who has 170 caps for the England women’s team – so she returned to dancing.
She said: “I grew up and right from the age of three I was want to be a prima ballerina. I wanted to do football for a year, I think that was when I [started] fancying boys.
“I wasn’t very good at that [the football], I’d just rather watch it, so went back to dance. I got into The Hammond School in Chester by a scholarship fortunately, because we would never have been able to afford it.”
Jorgie is currently putting her dance work to good use by starring in ‘Fame – The Musical’, and while she hasn’t ruled out a return to the Channel 4 soap – on which she portrayed Theresa McQueen for eight years – she enjoys appearing in other projects.
She said: “I’d never say never. To go back wouldn’t be a bad thing. I’m just enjoying seeing new things, new people and new experiences because as much as I love ‘Hollyoaks’ it’s kind of restricting in an acting situation.
“I love the fact I do get to do different things now.”
The 30-year-old actress loved appearing on the soap, but admits she wasn’t able to star in many shows alongside the programme.
Speaking to the Ipswich Star newspaper, she added: “When I first started with ‘Hollyoaks’ I was really lucky it became eight years non-stop, but you just cannot do anything else that much inbetween.
“I did ‘Dancing on Ice’ but that kind of TV just takes over a bit, then I don’t think you think about theatre.”
Jorgie recently admitted she would love to compete on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ one day.
She said: “‘Strictly’ would be the dream. I’d love that.
“I’ve been on reality shows before where I’ve not been bothered about winning and just wanted to take part. But on ‘Strictly’ I’d want to win, just so I could stay on and dance until the end.”

Paul Hollywood on ‘relaxing’ Bake Off finale

OHMYGOSSIP — Paul Hollywood says ‘The Great British Bake Off’ series nine final was the “most relaxing” conclusion to the show so far.
The 52-year-old judge has teased fans they can expect to see a “calm” atmosphere in the famous tent when they tune into the finale on Tuesday night (30.10.18), which will see Ruby Bhogal, Rahul Mandal, and Kim-Joy face off against one another.
He said: “It was the most relaxing final this year, in fact it was quite calm.
“It’s down to the characters in the tent. It’s nothing to do with us judges, it’s to do with the bakers.”
While temperatures have been known to rise in the ‘Bake Off’ tent at times, Paul admits some of the bakers hand him a “complimentary letter” when they depart the show.
He is quoted by the Daily Mirror newspaper as saying: “When they’ve left, they’ve written me a letter – a complimentary letter because when we’re critiquing their bakes, it’s never destructive criticism.”
Paul recently admitted he has to leave the tent for 10-minute breaks when his co-stars have him “crying with laughter” from their saucy innuendos.
He said: “When Mary said something that was a bit fruity I had to walk out of the tent on more than one occasion because I was crying with laughter.
“They said, ‘Go back in,’ and I said, ‘I can’t. Just give me 10 minutes. I can’t, I’ll just crack up.’
“And Prue’s done it a couple of times, too.”
Since ‘Bake Off’ began in 2010, some supporters have been in stitches at the innuendos – which included Mary often referring to a pie or tart’s “soggy bottom”, and Prue has continued the tradition with her “sweaty bottom” description – but Paul insists such quips were not deliberate inclusion when the show began.
He explained: “We are a bit of a ‘Carry On’ team. It’s not deliberate and none of it was when we first started.
“But it’s fun, really good fun.”
