Oprah Winfrey producing Color Purple movie

OHMYGOSSIP — Oprah Winfrey is bringing a musical version of ‘The Color Purple’ to the big screen.
The 64-year-old media mogul and music legend Quincy Jones are to produce an adaptation of the Tony Award-winning stage musical, alongside Steven Spielberg – who directed the 1986 movie adaptation of Alice Walker’s novel – and the Broadway production’s producer Scott Sanders on behalf of Warner Bros.
Spielberg’s movie – in which Winfrey appeared alongside lead actress Whoopi Goldberg – and the stage production adapted Walker’s 1982 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, which spans several decades and tells the story of a black woman named Celie, whose faith in God and other people is tested by the harsh poverty and ill treatment at the hands of her stepfather and husband, amongst others, that she experiences throughout her life.
The new movie will be based on the stage show, which hit Broadway in 2005 and won two Tony awards when it was revived in 2016.
Sanders said: “We’re really excited to create a film that translates the heart and emotion we found in telling this generational story on stage. This is an incredibly powerful drama that needs to be shared.”
The project is currently in the early stages of development and will next be looking for a writer and director.
It is not yet known who will be cast in the film, but ‘Widows’ actress Cynthia Erivo, who starred in the Broadway revival, is tipped to portray Celie once again.
Spielberg’s movie received 11 Academy Award nominations, including nods for both Goldberg and Winfrey, but failed to win, though the filmmaker was honoured with a Directors Guild of America Award for outstanding directorial achievement.

OHMYGOSSIP — Will Smith is to open the Latin Grammy awards with Marc Anthony and Bad Bunny.
The trio will perform their hit single ‘Está Rico’ – which debuted in September – to kick off the ceremony at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on 15 November.
Event organisers confirmed the news on Twitter as they posted: ” CONFIRMED! @MarcAnthony, Bad Bunny and Will Smith to open the 19th Annual #LatinGRAMMY Awards 15 DE NOV. 8PM @Univision @MGMGrand (sic)”
Marc, 50, previously admitted his collaboration with the ‘Men in Black’ star – who performed at the 2015 Latin Grammys when he teamed up with Bomba Estéreo on ‘Fiesta’ – had been a long time coming.
He said: “Will and I have always wanted to work on a musical collaboration.
“This song seems perfect for this moment we’re both experiencing creatively. Working with Bad Bunny for the first time has been a great surprise. We all had a magnificent chemistry, and that energy is palpable in both the music and the video.”
Will, Marc, and Bad Bunny – who is up for Best Urban Song for ‘Sensualidad’, a collaboration with Prince Royce and J. Balvin – join previously-announced performers including Ángela Aguilar, El David Aguilar, Pablo Alborán, J Balvin, Jorge Drexler, Karol G, Kany García, Halsey, Mon Laferte, Natalia Lafourcade, Maná, Victor Manuelle, Banda Los Recoditos, Carlos Vives and Sebastián Yatra, at this year’s ceremony.

Jess Shears ready for kids

OHMYGOSSIP — Jess Shears and Dom Lever are ready to have children.
The couple – who married in a secret ceremony earlier this month – insist they are in “no rush” to start a family but they want to have a large brood and are looking forward to being parents.
Jess said: “We want loads of children, so we’re going to start trying very soon.
“We’re not in a rush but we love kids and can’t wait to be parents.”
The pair shot to fame on the 2017 series of ‘Love Island’ but Jess, 25, has no interest in returning to reality TV in the future.
She said:” We have a few trips coming up with different brands for our influencer work.
“I loved ‘Love Island’ but I don’t really want to do any more reality TV.
“I don’t dream of having loads of money and a lavish lifestyle – as long as I can pay the bills and feed our dogs, I’m happy.”
However, 27-year-old Dom is “in talks” for a few new TV shows, though claimed his career has been hampered by him not being single.
He told OK! magazine: “I’d like to do more TV work. I’m currently in talks for a few shows.
“There are a lot more opportunities for single people, which is partly why it’s taken me so long to get back into it.”
While the couple are very happy to have got married, they are not planning a traditional honeymoon as they already have a number of holidays in the pipeline.
Jess said: “We’re planning a trip later this year to Dubai and the Maldives. We have a few work trips coming up and we’re going to Bali next year so a honeymoon feels a bit redundant.”

Danny John-Jules wants Strictly curse

OHMYGOSSIP — Danny John-Jules has joked he wanted to be hit by the ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ “curse”.
The former ‘Red Dwarf’ actor has been married to Petula Langlais – the mother of his children Dante, 12, and 10-year-old Danae – for 17 years and quipped he hoped being partnered with Amy Dowden on the programme would spell the end for their relationship.
Asked about the infamous curse, he said: “I only came in for the curse because I’ve been trying to get rid of my missus for years.”
But the 58-year-old star dismissed the curse is “rubbish” and isn’t something he’s had to think about.
He told The Sun newspaper: “Who’s frightened of a curse? That’s mythical. That’s like saying, do you believe in Santa Claus? Are you frightened of Santa? No.
“I’m an entertainer, the celebrities can worry about the curse, but I don’t worry, I’m an entertainer.
“That’s rubbish. I would not waste my time — we’re talking about a fantasy here — there’s more reality in a Red Dwarf script than that curse. It’s laughable.”
Danny also admitted he doesn’t spend any time with any of the other contestants, unless he’s booked for promotion with them.
He said: “I haven’t socialised with any of those people outside the show. My focus is my next number.
“I have not been out after work with one single member of the cast, not once have I been out with them, whatever it is.
“Anything which is part of our contract — for example It Takes Two — I’ll do, but as far as socialising, I have not been out with one member of the cast.
“We came here to be tested, not to prance up and down like some old luvvie, drinking martinis and having the odd knees-up.”

Sheridan Smith’s proposal shock

OHMYGOSSIP — Sheridan Smith doesn’t know “why” her fiance wants to marry her.
The 37-year-old singer-and-actress met Jamie Horn on Tinder in January and she credits the 28-year-old insurance broker for helping her find the strength to record her personal new album, ‘A Northern Soul’, but she joked both she and her mum were stunned when he popped the question.
She said: “I have fallen in love.
“I don’t think I could have made this album if I was in the same place, emotionally, because I’d probably end up crumbling and having another meltdown.
“Now I’ve got my fella with me all the time and he’s put a ring on my finger.
“God knows why he’ll have me. My mum actually said that to him, when he asked for my hand in marriage. She said, ‘Do you know what you’re getting yourself in for?’ Thanks for the vote of confidence, Mum!”
Sheridan quit musical ‘Funny Girl’ in March 2016 during a difficult period in her life that saw her father’s diagnosis with terminal cancer spark a “meltdown”, and though she’s upset her dad Colin witnessed her mental decline towards his final days, she’s grateful she was “better” before he passed away that November.
She said: “That was the catalyst, and suddenly I was having a proper meltdown. I’m upset that my dad had to see that. But at least I got myself better to be with him for his last days.”
But the ‘Moorside’ actress was convinced her career was over and during her break from acting, got a number of tattoos, including lotuses, a butterfly and diamonds on her hands, and now thinks she was an “idiot” for doing so.
She told the Daily Telegraph newspaper: “I just covered myself. I’ve got more down my sides and my legs. And now I’ve gone back to work. What an idiot…
“The good thing is that, these days, I’m mainly playing cardigan wearers. Chunky mums, that’s my roles now. So as long as I cover my hands, I’m good for a few more years!”

Leah Remini ‘wasn’t authentic’

OHMYGOSSIP — Leah Remini had to present herself as a “perfect person” to try and persuade her friends to join the church of Scientology.
The 48-year-old actress was raised in the controversial religion but left and became an outspoken critic in 2013 and she has admitted she could never be truly “authentic” with people because of the image she had to present.
Speaking to Jada Pinkett Smith on an upcoming episode of ‘Red Table Talk’, she said: “Regardless of what was being presented to you, from me as a friend, you were seeing a side of me that wasn’t 100 percent authentic because my job was to always be a perfect person in front of you, or any celebrity, to solely get you into Scientology, fully indoctrinated, fully on board and deserting any other beliefs.”
Leah’s appearance on the show came after she and Jada ended a feud which began when she claimed the ‘Girl’s Trip’ actress was a Scientologist last September.
The 47-year-old actress admitted she was grateful that the ‘Old School’ actress was the bigger person and “reached out” to resolve their differences.
She said: “It was really beautiful and she reached out to me. She was much more bigger than me in that way. It was nice to reconnect and release ourselves from all that nonsense that doesn’t matter…
“What was really emotional about it was realising that there was two broken little girls in us that were abandoned by their fathers and turned into fighters who clashed.”
And Jada – who has 20-year-old son Jaden and 17-year-old daughter Willow with husband Will Smith – learned a lot from Leah after sitting down with her to learn her story.
She said: “You have to treat people with kindness because you don’t know what they’re going through.
“When she told me her story, I had so much more compassion and it reiterated the necessity to just be gentle and kind because we’re all f***ing devastated.”
The ‘Bad Moms’ star rubbished claims she was a Scientologist on Twitter last year after Leah alleged she had seen her at the Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre in Los Angeles on many occasions.

Emily Ratajkowski: Marriage is a business

OHMYGOSSIP — Emily Ratajkowski views marriage as a “business”.
The ‘Welcome Home’ actress wed producer-and-actor Sebastian Bear-McClard earlier this year after a two-month romance and she believes there are no expectations on the institution because its history is a “joke”.
She said: “You know, ultimately marriage is like business.
“Marriage is really to me what you want to take from it, because the history of it is like a joke.”
The couple wed in front of just a few friends in New York City and Emily’s publicist advised her to break the news herself, when she called her a few hours later.
She recalled in an interview with The Times magazine: “What she said to me was, ‘I’m not going to say anything. Put it on Instagram. Control the narrative.’ ”
Last month, Emily and her friend Amy Schumer were arrested after taking part in a protest against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and the 27-year-old beauty was shocked that her outfit attracted so much attention, though she was also pleased it brought more attention to the cause.
She recalled: “Their headlines were like, ‘Emily Ratajkowski doesn’t wear a bra to be arrested’; ‘Model known for all these sexy pictures … ‘
“I don’t know. I was really happy that it brought so much attention to Kavanaugh and what’s going on in DC, but also, I would have never thought that anyone would have talked about my outfit … I was wearing a tank top and jeans. I was like, ‘What?’
“Amy wrote a whole long thing [about it] and was like, ‘First of all, I wasn’t wearing a bra either.’ She’s hilarious.”
The ‘Gone Girl’ star was particularly fascinated by the fact many of the police on duty were female.
She said: “What was interesting was that the people who were arresting us were women, people of many different ethnic backgrounds, and you’re looking at them thinking, ‘I wonder what you think about this?’ ”

Mackenzie Foy’s accent fascination

OHMYGOSSIP — Mackenzie Foy was fascinated by the work she did with a dialect coach for ‘The Nutcracker and the Four Realms’.
The 17-year-old actress plays Victorian heroine Clara in the new movie and needed training to alter her US accent into British tones and she learned a lot from the sessions.
She said: “It was interesting to find out about the muscles that change the way you speak.
“I love accents and playing around with them and studying the time period and incorporating that into the character.”
And Mackenzie also practised walking in her living room to get the character’s gait right.
She said: “I did a lot of research around body language, learning how a young woman then would stand and move.”
The movie sees Clara disappear into a mysterious parallel world and Mackenzie – who is joined in the film by the likes of Dame Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman and Keira Knightley – had a great time on the fantastical sets.
She told Britain’s HELLO! magazine: “There were some big set pieces and it was cool to step away from the monitors and into this magical world.”
The ‘Twilight’ actress is the only member of her family to be involved in the movie industry and she credits them for keeping her grounded and allowing her to continue to lead a “normal” life.
She said:” My family is incredible. To them I’m just Mackenzie, I have work Mackenzie and home Mackenzie.
“My childhood has been normal, fun. I hang out with friends and do high school things like go to dances and football games.”
While Mackenzie has a number of movie offers in place, she wants to complete her studies first.
She said: “I’m looking at some projects. But I’m just enjoying my last year at school and being a teenager.”

Emily Ratajkowski praises David Fincher

OHMYGOSSIP — Emily Ratajkowski has praised director David Fincher for using audience “preconceptions” to cast his movies.
The 27-year-old actress landed her role as student and mistress Andie in the filmmaker’s 2014 movie ‘Gone Girl’ following her controversial near-nude appearance in Robin Thicke’s ‘Blurred Lines’ video and she thinks it’s “smart” of the director not to ask viewers to use their imagination or suspend disbelief too far.
She said: “He’s smart. That was all intentional. He doesn’t try to force the audience to use their imagination. He actually relies on the preconceptions of the actors.
“So Ben [Affleck], at that point, people were like, ‘Do we like him? Do we not?’ You know, he was with J-Lo, but now he’s a family guy …
“Rosamund Pike was unknown to the American public, and she’s so beautiful and sweet-looking that the inclination of the audience was to think of her as the victim, and he used all that to tell this story, which is unique. Most directors don’t do that.”
Though she’s had no problem baring all in the past, the ‘Welcome Home’ actress doesn’t think that should stop people from taking her seriously.
She told The Times magazine: “Well, I hope that the country is woke enough to be OK. Listen, my whole thing is, if you can’t take a woman seriously because you’ve seen her without clothes, then that’s your problem. That says something about our culture, not about the woman who decided to be nude. It’s just a body.”
Fincher has previously admitted he cast Emily because he was looking for someone “incredibly divisive”.
He said: “[We wanted] someone who could be incredibly divisive among men and women in the audience.
“We needed somebody where, at the moment she appears, the women are going, ‘That is unconscionable and despicable,’ and you also have the men going, ‘Yes, but …’ And so Ben said, ‘Yeah, like the girl in the Blurred Lines video.’ ”

Katy Perry’s song of mental isolation

OHMYGOSSIP — Katy Perry’s new music was inspired by her own battle with depression.
The 34-year-old singer has recorded a cover of ‘Waving Through a Window’ from Broadway show ‘Dear Evan Hansen’ and admitted she was inspired when she saw the musical in April 2017.
Katy was particularly struck by ‘Waving Through the Window’, which the title character – an anxiety-stricken high school loner – sings early in the production about his loneliness, and the ‘Firework’ hitmaker has advised fans struggling with similar problems that they are not alone.
She wrote on Instagram: “On April 29, 2017, I went and saw Dear Evan Hansen on Broadway, and was emotionally transformed forever.
“In my own life, I’ve struggled with depression, and like so many, always feeling alone in the battle of wanting to belong.
“That night, I was particularly struck by the song ‘Waving Through a Window’. It embodied the mental isolation I sometimes fought.”
Katy – who saw the show again in October when it toured Los Angeles – connected with the song so much, she “jumped” at the chance to record it for a deluxe soundtrack album.
She concluded: “When my friends @benjpasek and @justinpaulmusic came to me and asked if I would like to re-record this song, not only to help launch the national tour, but to continue the conversation on mental health and all its complexities, I jumped right in.
“I hope this song helps you know that you are not alone, and that I’m waving back at you.(sic)”
The ‘Dark Horse’ hitmaker recently admitted she thinks the music industry is “brutal” and even people who have huge followings on social media can still be lonely.
She said: “If anyone else can tell, the music industry is going through something very strange, and I think young people are really in a struggle with online services and ideas of what they should be and what their life should be about.
“I felt that same way too, and I think a lot of us feel really alone even when we have over 75 million people following us and liking our stuff. This industry [is] kind of brutal. Just stay true to yourself.
“That’s all I ever did. I didn’t really have very much fear. I don’t have any fear anymore. I really don’t care what the outside world says about me ’cause I know who I am.”

Ariana Grande reveals new album’s title

OHMYGOSSIP — Ariana Grande’s new album will be called “thank u, next”.
The ‘no tears left to cry’ – who released her latest album ‘sweetener’ less than three months ago – has revealed she is already working on new music and knows what she wants to call her LP.
She wrote on Twitter: “exactly …. a new chapter … gratitude, growth, embracing our path bumps n all …. thank u, next … no drags…. no shade….. jus love, gratitude, acceptance, honesty, forgiveness … and growth … this what happens when u write an album w your best friends lol @VictoriaMonet they dig up all your old sayings and it ends up becoming the album title lmao (sic)”
Meanwhile, Ariana – who has endured a number of struggles in recent times, including a terrorist attack hitting her concert in Manchester in May 2017 and mourning her ex-boyfriend Mac Miller, who passed away two months ago – previously admitted she feels “guilty about her anxiety”.
She said: “I almost feel guilty that I have it [anxiety] because it’s just in your head and it’s just so crazy how powerful it is. You have ups and downs and sometimes you’ll go weeks at a time where you will be crushing it and there will be no anxiety … and then something will happen that can trigger it and then you have a couple of down days, you know … The most important thing is to remember that … everybody has this. Talk to your love ones, reach out to people, especially your friends online. Reach out to each other.”

Priyanka Chopra won’t take for granted

OHMYGOSSIP — Priyanka Chopra has learned not to take her life “for granted”.
The ‘Quantico’ star has been working as a global Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF for over a decade and it has made her appreciate her life so much more.
She said: “The one thing that has changed in me is, I do not take my my privileges for granted. I do not take the fact that I live in a comfortable home, I have the ability to get an education, I have a job that I want to have, I’m living the life that I choose to live.”
And the 36-year-old actress finds the field trips “the most special” because she gets to meet the people that the charity helps.
She added to People magazine: “The field trips are the most special, because you meet incredible kids and survivors. That has been one of my joyous moments, being able to help advocate children’s rights and children’s welfare around the world. That moved me so much in being able to go to places where these kids have no voice or no one listening to them, and actually shedding light on that. It makes you feel so small as a person. And it makes you feel like the life we lived are so self-centered. We take so much for granted. It really is a way of coming back into reality and seeing the world for what it is.”

Amy Schumer’s tough pregnancy

OHMYGOSSIP — Amy Schumer has had a “really tough pregnancy” so far.
The ‘Trainwreck’ star – who is expecting her first child with her husband Chris Fischer – admits her pregnancy hasn’t been an easy ride for her.
Speaking at her comedy show in Las Vegas on Friday night (03.11.18), she said: “I don’t like it. I’ve had a really tough pregnancy so far.”
However, that didn’t stop the 37-year-old actress and comedienne for cracking jokes about expecting a new member of the family.
She quipped: “You know who it’s not fun to be pregnant at the same time as? Meghan Markle! She’s walking around in heels and cradling her baby that’s not even there, and I’m barely wearing underwear.”
Amy announced she was pregnant on Instagram last month.
She captioned the post: “About to announce some exciting news on @jessicayellin insta page. Please follow her for up to the minute #newsnotnoise she breaks down what’s really going on. She agreed to post a lil noise today for me! Follow her and VOTE!! (sic)”
The news was then officially announced on the Instagram story of her friend Jessica Yellin, who posted a long list of recommended congressional candidates for the upcoming midterm elections.
The top of the post read: “I wanted to share some news from our community, maybe it’s noise but it’s happy noise. So I’m not in the business of making voting recommendations, but these are the recommendations of Amy Schumer, one of the most consistent and earliest supporters of News Not Noise. Now read all the way to the bottom, you’ll see there’s some news down there. Congratulations, Amy.”
At the bottom of the list, were the words: “I’m pregnant – Amy Schumer.”

Chrissy Teigen felt inferior

OHMYGOSSIP — Chrissy Teigen felt “inferior” to John Legend’s friends.
The ‘Sports Illustrated’ star admits a time where she got tearful when she attended the Time 100 gala in 2009 with her now-husband’s friends like Oprah Winfrey and Michelle Obama.
She told Glamour magazine: “It was a table of, like, Oprah, Michelle Obama, and this woman who ran an incredible charity about sex trafficking in Southeast Asia. At this point, I wasn’t anything. I remember going back to his dressing room and sobbing.”
Meanwhile, Chrissy previously confessed she once had a “jealousy fuelled meltdown” on the set of one of John’s music videos.
Speaking about the video for ‘Green Light’, she shared: “Fun fact, I had a jealously-fueled meltdown visiting this video set and made an asshole out of myself to a large group of people. Oh you want to know more, do you? Let me try to remember. 10 years is a long time! Ok after a brief refresh with john, I have pieced together small bits of information … it began with our friends (john’s managers and co-writers and a couple others) talking about how BEAAAAAAUUUUTIFUL some of the women were … and they were! But in my mind they not only were talking about it, they were talking about it on purpose to rile me up. Looking back and knowing how well I know them now, THEY WERE DEFINITELY RILING ME UP AND GETTING A KICK OUT OF IT … I was watching the monitor with all the guys and someone, I can’t remember who, said, “ooooooo look at that girl with john ooooooooo!” so I watched the monitor like a psychotic (tarantula) hawk and in my mind, oh he was in trouble (sic)”

Charlize Theron praises Time’s Up movement

OHMYGOSSIP — Charlize Theron thinks the Time’s Up movement has “changed” the film industry.
The ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ star is pleased with how the movie industry has reacted to the allegations of sexual assault made against some of Hollywood’s biggest names.
She told Elle.com: “Since Time’s Up, I’ve been in meetings and on set and there’s not a moment that there isn’t a conversation happening. We’ve recognised that it’s going to get ugly and now it’s about who has the tenacity to see it through. We’re in pre-production on a film right now and we’ve worked really hard to make everyone very aware that the industry needs to change. We need to start hiring differently and we need to create opportunities for a gender-neutral set.”
Meanwhile, Charlize previously urged women not to be so “polite” when asking for equal pay.
She said: “I am in a position where I could put my foot down and say, I want equal pay to my male co-star, who I had billed another movie with. We were doing a sequel, we had done it together, why not? What was interesting about it was I had a studio that said all right. And I was like, oh? We just need to say this? We just need to not be so polite about it and say what we want? …
“The amount of traction and the amount of women who are being empowered by other women to step forward and actually speak their truth, I know in my life I’ve never seen anything like that. This is a rock rolling down a mountain really fast, and I’m quite enjoying watching it.”

She wrote on Instagram: “Happy birthday my sweet Kenny! I love you for who you are and couldn’t imagine a life without YOU. If anyone knows you like I do, they know how much of an amazing, kind, quirky, loving person you are and how much any one would dream to have you in their life.
