Iain Stirling’s CelebAbility is not coming back

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘CelebAbility’ has been cancelled.
The ITV2 star-studded panel show – which is hosted by comedian and ‘Love Island’ narrator Iain Stirling, 35 – is not returning for any more episodes after featuring a slew of guests like Scarlett Moffatt,33, Katherine Ryan, 40, Will Best, 38, and many more across its seven series.
A network representative told Metro.co.uk: “There are no current plans for another series, before adding that the series had been “very successful”.
This news comes after previous reports branded the show’s format – which sees the stars take on a number of challenges and skill tests based on what they professed to have against some civilians – as “tired”.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “‘CelebAbility’ had a decent run, but ultimately the format was a bit tired and celeb panel shows can feel dated.
“Bosses are always keen to try new ideas and invest in fresh telly projects, it’s time for a change and Iain isn’t short of work.”
However, Iain is not in peril of being unemployed as he is gearing up to go on nationwide stand-up tour ‘RELEVANT’ and recently announced a true crime podcast with his wife broadcaster Laura Whitmore, 38 – with whom he has a two-year-old daughter Stevie Re – ‘Murder, They Wrote’ for the BBC.
Laura said: “I’m so excited to bring our true crime obsession to BBC Sounds. I love the psychology of it all, getting into people’s mindsets and finding out what makes them tick. In our new podcast on BBC Sounds, Iain and I will take it in turns to surprise each other with tales of historical true crime cases that are sure to make the hairs on the back on your neck stand on end.”
Iain added: “If, like us, you’re curious about how a honeymoon turned into a horror story, or the curious case of the hitman dentist, then this is the podcast for you. Join us as we dive right into the past and encounter some of the darkest criminals in history.”

Judi Love reveals big career wish away from Loose Women

OHMYGOSSIP — Judi Love wants to host a celebrity version of ‘The Traitors’.
The 43-year-old comedienne is best known for her appearances on ITV1’s lunchtime chat show ‘Loose Women’ but revealed that she has become so enamoured by Claudia Winkelman’s reality challenge series- which saw strangers move into a castle in the Scottish Highlands to complete a series of challenges – that she is hoping for a celebrity version and would love to front it if the chance came up.
Writing in her OK! Magazine column, she said: “I loved The Traitors when it first came out, so I’m excited for the new series.
“What a show, and Claudia Winkleman was phenomenal! The drama, the fun and the lies people had to tell – it was unbelievable to watch.
“I was at the Baftas when it won an award; I was screaming because they deserved it. I’m waiting for a celeb spin-off and an aftermath show, where they interview those who’ve been kicked out. If they need a host, I’m here for it!”
The former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ contestant also used her column to remind fans that while there is so much violence in the world at the minute, she finds laughter to be “healing” and wants others to find a “safe space” where they can process everything.
She added: “There’s so much going on in the world right now, from the war in the Middle East to youth violence, and people I know personally are suffering.
“Please find a safe space that brings you peace in it all. For me, that’s being on stage and connecting with people, laughing and having a moment that blocks out the devastation.
“We can’t take for granted how people who are seeing the suffering are feeling. We shouldn’t shy away from speaking out and saying how anxious we feel. For me, laughter is healing.”

Celebrity Big Brother legend Nicola McLean reveals who she thinks will win revival series

OHMYGOSSIP — Nicola McLean thinks Yinrun Huang will win ‘Big Brother.’
The 25-year-old customer support agent is one of the few housemates on the ITV2 reality series to have not yet been nominated for eviction and now glamour model Nicola – who competed in ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ twice when it aired on Channel 5 – has revealed she thinks the Chinese native is the “personification” of the show and could walk away with the £100,00 prize.
Nicola told The Daily Star: “I think Yinrun might win it, I do think that she’s just ‘Big Brother’ personified. She’s just so sweet and cute and funny. I mean she’s fantastic entertainment.
“I loved it when she was causing trouble with Kerry like splashing the water and stuff to make her go to the toilet instead of looking after the eggs. So I do think she’s brilliant. I think she would be a great winner.”
The former ‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!’ contestant went on to add that whilst these days so many people are “worried” about saying or doing the wrong thing because of cancel culture, she admires the ones who are unashamed about the way they present themselves.
She said: “I think a lot of people these days are so worried about saying and doing the right thing because we live in a cancel culture. But I think the best ones are the one that [don’t apologise for everything].
“I mean obviously you don’t want to be offensive but just be unapologetically yourself, you know what I mean? There’s no point in going on Big Brother to pussyfoot around – just have loads of fun.”
“A housemate that’s willing to have fun, willing to be silly, willing to do all the tasks if you have to dress up as an ant then you have to dress up as an ant. Just be unfiltered.
“Who cares what other people think of you? Being a housemate is one of the best things you’ll ever get to do so just take it and do it to the fullest.”

‘I had gone through something with the internet’: Nicolas Cage identified with viral Dream Scenario character

OHMYGOSSIP — Nicolas Cage could relate to going viral like his character Paul Matthews in ‘Dream Scenario’.
The 59-year-old star features in the new movie as a biology professor who attracts attention online after featuring in the dreams of other people and drew parallels with the “memefication” of his acting work.
Speaking to Digital Spy, Nicolas said: “He’s going through something that I felt I could relate to. I had gone through something with the internet.
“I might have been the first actor who experienced a kind of memefication where my scenes that were specifically designed to have meltdowns or nervous breakdowns had been cherry picked in such a way that it would just (be) meltdown after meltdown after meltdown without any linear narrative or without any chapter or act to lead up to.
“Then I saw it go viral and I saw it grow exponentially, compounding on itself into memes and t-shirts and what not, and I thought, ‘Well, this isn’t really why I became an actor. What the heck is going on?’ And I couldn’t stop it.”
Despite the pair’s similar experiences of internet popularity, Nicolas drastically changed his appearance to bring his character to life in the comedy film.
The ‘Renfield’ actor said: “Paul is nothing like me. By design, in terms of the physicality. A lot of thought went into the look, we wanted to – Kristoffer (Borgli), the director and I – wanted to get it as far away from my own so-called presentation, if you will, so you weren’t thinking about so-called Nic Cage but that it was Paul Matthews.
“You know, a professor of evolutionary biology who works in a college teaching students. He’s an academic, not a movie star. He has no interest in the limelight, has no interest in the spotlight.”

‘That’s been remarkable to see’: David Grann thrilled with Osage Nation involvement in Killers of the Flower Moon

OHMYGOSSIP — David Grann is delighted that the Osage Nation was deeply involved in the making of ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’.
The 56-year-old author’s book about the Osage Indian murders has been adapted by Martin Scorsese into a new movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro and he explained the importance of getting the tribe to contribute to the development of the picture.
David told Entertainment Weekly: “I spent about half a decade working on the book with members of the Osage Nation, recording stories from the Osage elders.
“What has been really important and gratifying to see was the level of involvement of the Osage Nation in shaping the movie. They’ve been involved at every level, from the production to the costume designs to making sure that the Osage language was spoken to the Osage actors who have speaking roles. That’s been remarkable to see.”
Grann explained how Scorsese’s decision to film the movie on Osage land with Osage involvement gave the project “power” and “authenticity”.
He said: “It’s what gives the film its power, I think, and its authenticity.
“I remember when I visited the set, I encountered many members of the Osage Nation, many of whom had become friends of mine over the years. Some of them were central to my book and research, and many of them are descendants of people who were killed during the Osage reign of terror.”
Grann admits that writers can be “nervous” when their work is adapted for the screen but he felt at ease with the ‘Cape Fear’ director’s approach.
He said: “Any writer who says they’re not nervous when a book is going to be adapted is lying. You’re nervous about what could happen, especially with a subject matter like this.
“But the second that Scorsese and his team came on board, and the second they began working with the Osage Nation and they decided to shoot on location, I know they were going to do something lasting and something that would be authentic.”

Priscilla used 10 wigs to highlight passage of time

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Priscilla’s hair department relied on 10 wigs to document the passage of time in the movie.
The film takes place over the course of 13 years and because shooting was done in just a month, shortcuts were needed behind the scenes to echo the change in trends and the status of lead characters Priscilla and Elvis Presley, with Cailee Spaeny – who portrays the ‘Naked Gun’ actress – donning five different hairpieces.
Hair department lead Cliona Furey told Popsugar: “Each one [wig] a different colour and length with additional pieces for various looks.
“We filmed in 30 days, so had to work quickly.
“Shooting out of sequence meant Cailee was 14 years old in the morning and 27 years old and pregnant in the afternoon.
“Her hair transitions from a youthful natural ponytail to longer, bigger, richer colours and higher glam, then returning back to more natural in 1972 when she leaves Elvis.”
Although the team studied photos and home videos of Priscilla and the late Elvis to get the looks right, they also took “creative license” to choose what suited Cailee and was accurate for the time.
Cliona said: “Our film was more about moments between Priscilla and Elvis that were private and not photographed by the press.
“I had to respect historical accuracy as well as take some creative licence to create looks that Priscilla might have liked and worked on Cailee.”
As with Cailee’s changing hair looks, the make-up department also worked to ensure she had distinct looks for each chapter in Priscilla’s life.
Make-up department head Jo-Ann MacNiel said: “Her eyeliner evolved as she did; she was the first girl in her Catholic school to have eyeliner.
”She eventually goes to a salon and gets her hair dyed, her eye makeup became more pronounced, and her brows became more arched.”
The department lead also ensured they only used time-appropriate products to maintain the historical authenticity.
Jo-Ann explained: “Cailee was very good at doing her own makeup in that scene and didn’t need much help at all from me at all.
“We couldn’t use the Tom Ford on camera, so we used a period correct applicator that she dipped offscreen into a wet liquid eyeliner pot.”

Matthew Perry made Friends writers change controversial storyline

OHMYGOSSIP — Matthew Perry made the writers of ‘Friends’ change a controversial cheating storyline.
The actor – who died last month aged 54 – played Chandler Bing in the hit sitcom with Courteney Cox as his girlfriend/wife Monica and it’s now been revealed the pair were supposed to be caught up in a scandal with Perry’s character cheating on her during a trip to Las Vegas in a 1999 episode titled ‘The One in Vegas: Part 1’.
The revelation was made by actress Lisa Cash, who was hired to play a hotel worker who brings room service to Chandler’s room after he has a huge fight with Monica. She told TMZ.com: “The scene was Chandler and Monica were arguing In Vegas about Monica having lunch with [ex-boyfriend] Richard and in our script, Chandler goes up to the hotel room and orders room service and I bring it up as a hotel worker..
“And we end up talking and laughing and connecting and Chandler ends up cheating on Monica with my character.”
However, Perry didn’t feel comfortable with the storyline and he went to the writers and asked for it to be changed.
Lisa added: “We had rehearsed it … and the day before we were supposed to shoot it in front of a live audience, I was told that [Perry] went to the writers and said the fans will never forgive [Chandler] for cheating on Monica. He was probably right. That would have possibly changed the course of the show.”
The cheating scenes were removed from the script and Lisa’s part was cut. However, she was given the chance to appear in a different scene as a flight attendant with Ross and Rachel – played by David Schwimmer and Jennifer Aniston.
Lisa added: “They were so nice for not completely cutting me out of the episode .”
She also praised Perry for making her feel welcome and comfortable on set and insisted the writers made the correct decision by removing Chandler’s cheating scene.
Lisa said: “They had that whole other thing with the Ross and Rachel ‘we were on a break’ but Chandler and Monica weren’t on a break. It was a decision that he was going to make to cheat on her. In the moment … but I don’t think the audience would have really forgiven that. So I think it was smart.”

Sir Elton John reteams with Marmite

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Elton John has teamed up with Marmite again to produce a new limited edition jar of spread.
The 76-year-old singer previously produced a Rocket Man-inspired jar for the brand last year to raise money for his AIDS charity with 50p from every sale going to the Elton John AIDS Foundation – and now he’s launched a new collaboration inspired by his 1973 album ‘Goodbye Yellow Brick Road’.
Laura Iliffe from Marmite said: “We’re confident Marmite and Elton fans alike will be excited to welcome this new design to their collection.”
The new jar features the album’s artwork and celebrates the 50th anniversary of the record.
The project also marks the start of a three-year partnership between the band and the veteran musician with Marmite bosses vowing to donate $1,000,000 to Elton’s charity to support the organisation’s work in the UK.
Anne Aslett, chief executive of the Elton John Aids Foundation, said: “What started as a singular, limited-edition jar in 2022 has evolved into an incredible three-year partnership between Marmite and the foundation.
“This jar is not only an homage to Elton’s artistic excellence but will also help to raise much-needed awareness of our ongoing mission to end Aids.
Globally, three new people are diagnosed with HIV every minute and over nine million people are not currently accessing the treatment that could save their lives.
“With Marmite’s generous support, we can continue our work to provide those most at risk of HIV/Aids with the treatment, care and support they desperately need.
“Through our partnership we also work together to spread the love and compassion that is needed to break down the stigma standing in the way of ending AIDS for all.”
The jar will be available exclusively at Sainsbury’s stores across the UK.

Peter Andre faces baby name dilemma

OHMYGOSSIP — Peter Andre is unsure if he and wife Emily will settle on a name before their baby is born.
The ‘Mysterious Girl’ singer is already dad to Junior, 18, and 16-year-old Princess – who he had with first wife Katie Price – as well as Amelia, 10, and six-year-old Theo with his spouse, and he admitted in the past he’s experienced a last minute change of heart about the monikers picked out for the kids.
He wrote in his column for new! magazine: “Jay-Z has said he and Beyoncé almost chose Brooklyn or Blueberry as names for their daughter, Blue Ivy. I think it’s very common not to be certain about a name for your child before they are born.
“I had a similar dilemma over names for all my children, including Junior. The moment he was born I saw he did look like a mini-me, so I guess him being called Junior was quite an easy choice. Millie was almost called Rose.
“Sometimes you don’t know until you meet the baby, but the process of trying to decide is fun.”
The ‘Behind Closed Doors’ hitmaker and his 33-year-old wife revealed last month they were expecting another baby.
Sharing ultrasound photos, Peter and Emily wrote in a joint Instagram post: “We are delighted to share the news with you all. A new addition to our family in 2024 The kids are so excited. So are we.”
The 50-year-old singer admitted in July he still wasn’t sure if he had finished having children.
Speaking to Vicky Pattison on her ‘The Secret To’ podcast, he said: “Children… I was like, when I get to 50 I’m done and then I find myself having conversations with [Emily] going, ‘Yeah you know, if we did have another child, where would we put Junior?’
“I can’t even believe we have those conversations and that makes me think that I just don’t know, it’s just one of those things. It’s just weird that we even have those conversations, so I don’t know.
“Listen, us guys can wishful think all we like, right, but it’s going to be up to her.”

Katie Couric was warned Twitter was ‘beneath’ her

OHMYGOSSIP — Katie Couric was told to come off Twitter because the platform was “beneath” her.
The veteran broadcaster – who became the first solo female nightly news anchor when she took over the desk at ‘CBS Evening News’ in 2006 – told how she was ahead of the curve when it came to joining the microblooging platform and it was so misunderstood at the time, she was told off by network executives for using the site to gauge public opinion.
Speaking at a New York dinner to launch Netflix’s ‘All The Light We Cannot See’, the New York Post newspaper’s Page Six column reports she said: “I remember being at CBS and asking people on Twitter – before it became such a cesspool – about what they thought about the [2010 Deep Water Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Texas].
“The second in command at CBS News, who was such a d***, he said to my producer… ‘It’s actually beneath the anchor of the ‘CBS Evening News’ to be on Twitter.’ And I was like, are you serious?”
Katie recalled how being the first female anchor was “very difficult” because of the scrutiny she faced, including being criticised over her wardrobe choices.
She said: “It was very difficult for me… when people are saying, ‘You know, why did I wear a white jacket after Labor Day,’ my first night on the air.”
Katie recently reflected on her experiences reporting on the 9/11 terrorist attack in New York, which she covered for the ‘Today Show’.
In a post to mark the 22nd anniversary of the worst terror outrage to hit US soil, she wrote on Instagram: “We had no idea what was going on – and assumed it had just been an accident.”
While on air on 11 September, 2001, Katie spoke to a woman named Jennifer Oberstein who told the anchor what she saw that horrifying morning.
Katie recalled: “Jennifer proceeded to give us a play by play of what she saw, live on the air, and we were on the phone with her when she watched the second plane crash into the second tower. I’m forever grateful for her help reporting this story.”

Barry Manilow adds extra 5 dates to farewell London Palladium residency

OHMYGOSSIP — Barry Manilow has extended his farewell London Palladium residency, due to “overwhelming demand”.
The music legend will now play five further shows on June 4, 5,7, 8, and 9, bringing the run to 14 nights.
The ‘Mandy’ hitmaker, 80, originally announced nine nights at the legendary music venue between May 23 and June 2, for what will mark his last ever UK shows.
He said: “In 1978, The London Palladium is where I began my love affair with the British public. These shows will be my last full concerts in Britain and I wanted to end where I began – at the London Palladium.”
Music legend Manilow – who has sold more than 85 million albums worldwide – will kick off the goodbye run with a one-off show at the new Manchester Co-op Live arena on May 19.
The Grammy winner – who holds the title for the longest stint in Las Vegas with his ‘Barry Manilow – The Hits Come Home! ‘ concert series, overtaking the late Elvis Presley’s 1978 record – will play a hit-packed show, including ‘Could it Be Magic’, ‘Copa Cabana’ and ‘Can’t Smile Without You’.
Despite these being his final shows in the UK, Manilow still loves to perform his most famous tracks at his shows and could never grow tired of them as the audience makes him feel like he’s “never heard” the songs before.
He told USA Today in 2019: “I’ve stopped performing album cuts and medleys of big bands and stuff. I know what the audience wants. They want the hits. And I am happy to give that to them. I’m one of those lucky guys who has a catalogue of hits that can fill up 90 minutes. I don’t know how that happened, but I’m very grateful. And I want to give them every song they know. So it’s a very happy audience out there …
“I could see the difference. When I would do something, they didn’t know, they would be very polite. And then when I would do ‘Looks Like We Made It,’ the roof would cave in. They were telling me what they wanted. And it’s my pleasure, honestly. It’s theirs. They gave these hits to me. So I’m happy to do it. I don’t mind it. I really don’t. You would think that I’d be sick of them by now. But I really am not because they make it brand new for me. It’s as if they’ve never heard these songs before.”
Tickets for the new dates go on sale via lwtheatres.co.uk on Friday, November 10 at 10am.

Dire Straits reject ‘huge amounts of money’ to reunite

OHMYGOSSIP — Dire Straits won’t reunite – despite being offered “huge amounts of money” to get the band back together.
Bassist John Illsley, 74, has revealed the ‘Sultans of Swing’ hitmakers’ manager, Paul Crockford, is always telling him about the large sums of money people are willing to pay to see the Grammy-winning rock band back on stage.
In an interview with The Telegraph, he said: “Every time we have lunch, [he] says to me, ‘I wish people would stop offering me huge amounts of money to put [Dire Straits] back together.’”
The ‘Money For Nothing’ band – which was also comprised of brothers and guitarists Mark and David Knopfler and drummer Pick Withers – split for good in 1995, after six studio albums.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers – who formed in 1977 – had briefly parted ways in 1988, before reuniting in 1990.
However, John insists the group ended at the right time because it was getting in the way of their personal lives.
He added: “Most of our marriages were falling apart, we weren’t seeing our children very much – it was all wrong. It’s the usual things that can happen to people in bands.”
In a 2008 interview with ‘BBC News’, John claimed Mark’s successful solo career was in the way of a reunion.
He explained: “I think we’ve definitely got one more tour left in us, and probably another record too.
“[But] he’s [Knopfler] doing different kinds of music now.
“He’s doing incredibly well as a solo artist, so hats off to him. He’s having a perfectly good time doing what he’s doing.”
He pursued a solo career after the band first dissolved in 1988.
The 74-year-old musician’s last solo studio album was 2018’s ‘Down the Road Wherever’.

Barry Keoghan found style inspiration from movies

OHMYGOSSIP — Barry Keoghan picked up style tips from movies.
The 31-year-old actor has never been afraid to stand out from the crowd and used to “get ideas” from the films he watched, and didn’t care if they seemed unconventional in everyday life.
Speaking to Sunday Times Style magazine, he said: “I was always not wanting to follow the dress codes.
“I felt comfy with the denim jacket when everyone else was in trackies.
“I’d see movies and get ideas. After seeing ‘The Basketball Diaries’ I bought a Moleskine notebook and started carrying it around.
“When people said, ‘What are you doing?’, I’d say, ‘I like it!’ I’d always do it differently.”
The ‘Saltburn’ actor – who has 14-month-old son Brando with 35-year-old partner Alyson Kierans – loves expressing himself through clothes and particularly enjoys the fancy dress involved in Halloween.
He said: “I love fashion. I see it as a way of being bold, it’s another form of expressing yourself.
“I love Halloween, I get to play all the characters I’ve ever dreamt of playing.
“Last year, I was Robin, Alyson was the Joker and Brando was Batman.”
Barry enjoys treating his loved ones to new clothes too, and they don’t have particularly expensive tastes.
Speaking about his beloved grandmother, the ‘Banshees of Inisherin’ star said: “She loves a top from Marks and Spencer, or a little holiday here and there. She’s always like, ‘Are you eating? You look good.’ I go, ‘So do you, darling — are you using your Nivea cream?’ She’s a big advocate for her Nivea and for cabbage water.
“I love cabbage water — bits of bacon floating around. Full of iron. Lovely!”

RHIOC star Nermina Pieters-Mekic reveals pregnant when was told she had cancer

OHMYGOSSIP — Nermina Pieters-Mekic was pregnant when was told she had cancer.
‘The Real Housewives of Cheshire’ star – who is already mother to her two-year-old daughter Alaya with her West Bromwich Albion footballer husband Erik Pieters, 35 – was in the “unthinkable position” of having to terminate her pregnancy when she discovered she had a very aggressive form of stage three breast cancer.
The 33-year-old TV star told OK! magazine: “I was pregnant when I found out I had cancer, it broke my heart we couldn’t keep the baby – nobody should ever find themselves in that unthinkable position.
“One night when I couldn’t sleep I sat in Alaya’s nursery. I looked at her height chart on the wall, and thought, ‘What if I’m not here to witness this in a few years? What if I don’t see her grow up?’ They couldn’t do all the checks [cancer tests] because I was pregnant so I kept thinking, ‘I’ll never forgive myself for not seeing Alaya grow up.’”
Nermina – who first shared the news of her diagnosis on Instagram – didn’t in her “wildest dreams” think she would ever find herself in this position.
She said: “I never in my wildest dreams thought this would happen to me. I never get ill, I eat a good diet, I exercise with my horses, I barely drink, I’m very healthy. But cancer doesn’t discriminate. “One in seven women will get breast cancer in their lifetime, and a lot of those will be young women.
“It’s easy to think ‘it won’t happen to me’, but it can happen to anyone – I’m proof of that. I need women to check themselves, and be checked.”
The brunette beauty – who first appeared on the ITVBe reality series in 2017 – shared the heartbreaking health update on social media.
Nermina wrote in the caption of a post: “And just like that my life changed forever. A few months ago I felt a lump in my left breast and I decided to see a GP who didn’t seem overly concerned. After some convincing from my Mom- I decided to investigate it further as the lump was getting sore and growing. I’m so grateful that I did because on the 10th of July I got diagnosed with an early stage aggressive breast cancer.”
“I will never be able to describe how I felt that day and the days after that. My heart was broken, I was scared and I had so many questions.. I’m healthy and fit so how is this possible for someone of my age?!”

Gareth Gates: ‘I never wanted to be famous!’

OHMYGOSSIP — Gareth Gates “never wanted” to be famous.
The 39-year-old singer shot to fame as a teenager when he became the runner-up of the innovative ITV singing competition – which was won by Will Young – in 2002 and admitted the idea of becoming a celebrity had always “terrified” him because of his then-stammer.
The 39-year-old singer told the Times newspaper: “‘Pop Idol’ was the first of its kind, well before the likes of ‘The X Factor’, and so I don’t think anybody knew exactly what to expect. I didn’t ever want to be famous — fame terrifies me because of my speech. If you’re well known you’re approached by people, you have to converse with them, you have to do interviews and that’s the last thing I ever wanted. But I knew I had a talent, and being able to sing meant everything to me, because I wasn’t able to talk.”
Meanwhile, Gareth recently won the celebrity version of Channel 4’s military series ‘SAS: Who Dares Win’ and admitted that his only impression of his finale competitor Matt Hancock – who served as the UK’s health secretary during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic – was from media reports but found that the show actually served as a “leveller” to all contestants because they all had to “prove their worth” throughout the various challenges.
He said: “Beforehand I only knew what I’d seen in the papers. I think some of us felt let down by the government, and I’m not just talking about Matt. There were things that we were asked to do, which, you know, didn’t play out in their own lives.”
“But the show was a leveller. It didn’t matter who you were — the DS [directing staff, who led the training] didn’t care, and after a few minutes we didn’t care. That was really quite liberating — you had to prove your worth in that particular situation.”
