Lady Gaga doesn’t think of Joker: Folie a Deux as a musical

OHMYGOSSIP — Lady Gaga doesn’t consider ‘Joker: Folie a Deux’ to be a musical.
The 38-year-old star plays Harley Quinn in the sequel to the acclaimed 2019 film ‘Joker’ that features music prominently but she explained that it was merely an alternative method of allowing the characters to “express themselves”.
Speaking at the Venice Film Festival, Gaga said: “It’s very different.
“The music is a way to give the characters a way to express themselves because the dialogue wasn’t enough.”
Gaga revealed that she decided to join the cast of the sequel after being “really deeply” moved by Joaquin Phoenix’s portrayal of the deranged criminal Arthur Fleck/The Joker.
The pop star said: “Joaquin’s performance set the bar extremely high. And I think sometimes when stories are told of people who are misunderstood by society, the actors and director can show you something unknown to you. And with ‘Joker’ I felt I got to understand and see something I never understood before.”
Director Todd Phillips revealed that he discussed the idea of making the sequel a musical in a conversation with Phoenix during production on the first film.
The 53-year-old filmmaker said: “If you remember the first film Arthur has a musicality to him. He is often dancing to express the way he feels. And Hildur Guonadottir’s score is almost a character in the first film.
“So when it started taking shape with actual music elements we thought what if we got Lady Gaga who actually brings music with her.”
Phillips confessed that he is “more nervous” about the world seeing the sequel than he was about the release of the original picture – which also premiered at Venice five years ago.
He said: “It felt like the logical launching point for this second film. We have a very strong feeling with Venice and what happened last time.
“I would say on this one I’m more nervous. There are a lot more expectations on a second film. There’s more nervousness.”

Matt Reeves is ‘finishing the script’ for The Batman Part II

OHMYGOSSIP — Matt Reeves is “finishing up the script” for ‘The Batman Part II’.
The 58-year-old director has revealed that he plans to begin filming for the superhero sequel “next year” and confirmed that Colin Farrell’s Oswald Cobbelpot/Penguin will be featuring in the flick.
Matt told SFX magazine: “Colin (Farrell) will be part of the movie. We’ve shared (the script) as we’ve been going along with DC and the studio and they’re super excited.”
‘The Batman’ universe is set to branch out into TV with ‘The Penguin’ series and Reeves explained that it will serve as an “entry point” into the sequel – which will be released in cinemas in 2026.
The filmmaker said: “There are details that actually connect right into the way the next movie begins, and the way that Oz enters that world as we hand the baton back to Batman, and Batman is on another case.”
Robert Pattinson will be returning as the Caped Crusader in the sequel but Matt decided to ignore fan pleas to introduce the supernatural villain Gentleman Ghost as the character does not fit in with his gritty take on Gotham City.
The ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ director said: “What was important to me was to find a way to take these pop icons, these mythical characters that everybody knows, and translate it so that Gotham feels like a place in our world.
“We might push to the edge of the fantastical but we would never go into full fantastical. It’s meant to feel quite grounded.”
Reeves added: “It doesn’t mean that you won’t see characters that people love. That’s exactly what we want to do.
“Gentleman Ghost is probably pushed a bit too far for us to be able to find a way to do, but there is a fun way to think about how we would take characters that might push over into a bit of the fantastical and find a way to make sense of that.”

Sabrina Vittoria’s ‘Love is Blind UK’ split left her on medication for depression

OHMYGOSSIP — Sabrina Vittoria’s ‘Love is Blind UK’ break-up left her on medication for depression and anxiety.
The 35-year-old got together with Steven Smith, 37, on the Netflix show, with married co-hosts Emma and Matt Willis branding them a “forever couple” at the time.
Sabrina and Steven were the first pair to get engaged without ever meeting as part of the show’s premise – and got married in September last year.
But she has now spoken about her trauma over splitting from Steven after only 86 days of marriage, with the news of their break-up emerging on a reunion special of the show on Monday. (26.08.24)
Sabrina was quoted in The Sun saying: “I had to process what I’d lost and that this was going to be on TV and you’re going through a marriage breakdown with the world watching. And that was really difficult.
“I ended up with diagnosed depression, I was put on anxiety medication for the first time in my life. I wasn’t sleeping, I had really bad insomnia.
“I isolated myself from my friends because I was too embarrassed.”
Sabrina added Steven bailed on their relationship after they left ‘Love is Blind UK’.
She also claimed he flew to her home in Belfast only twice – and said he gave her just 48 hours notice he wouldn’t be with her at Christmas.
Sabrina went on: “When I married Steven, I married him with my full heart. But I married him based on words and promises we’d made. A lot of that did not translate in the real world.
“I’ve got a ‘Thank God I’m not married’ party in Greece in October where I have invited everyone that came to the wedding.”
Steven, who has been seeking an annulment to the marriage, defended himself by saying: “Up until the reunion, I thought everything was amicable, but that wasn’t the case.
“But obviously, people deal with pain differently.”

Kaye Adams unsure if she ever wants to be ‘judged’ again on reality TV

OHMYGOSSIP — Kaye Adams is unsure if she ever wants to be “judged” again on reality TV.
The ‘Loose Women’ panellist, 61, appeared on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ in 2022, and quickly found herself in a dance-off before she became the first celebrity contestant booted off that year’s series of the show.
Opening up about the impact the series and others like it can have on contestants’ mental health, she told the Daily Mirror: “I just don’t know if I’m desperate to be judged again in that way.
“You could go in the jungle (on ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’), you could try your level best, do everything, but you’re voted out first for whatever reason and you just feel like a loser.
“I don’t think I need that in my life.”
‘Strictly’ has recently been mired in scandal, with contestants levelling accusations of bullying against some of its dance pros.
Kaye said even though she found her experience on the series brutal, she was naïve about the process.
She also stressed she had nothing against the show or her pro dance partner Kai Widdrington.
She said about the 29-year-old dancer: “Kai was an absolute gentleman from start to finish. I was so pleased to be paired with him and I couldn’t have asked any more of him.”
Kaye also said she met some “wonderful” people on the ‘Strictly’ set but added it was a “tough” show that required competitors to “emotionally put yourself on the line”.
She added that while some contestants seemed to “sail through” its brutal training and feedback sessions in front of its judges, Kaye confessed she found the experience “destabilising” at times.
Mother-of-two Kaye – who lives in Glasgow with her tennis coach partner Ian and their daughters, Charley, 22, and 17-year-old Bonnie – also joked despite her dance training she is still the “same old klutz” she’s always been in life.

‘The Office’ set for African adaptation

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘The Office’ is set for another adaptation after African streamer Showmax secured rights to the hit comedy format.
South African audiences will get a version of the sitcom created by Ricky Gervais – which also became a hit in the US – with Showmax working in partnership with BBC Studios.
The platform, which is now powered by Peacock, recently included all nine seasons of the US version of ‘The Office’ in its offerings before it decided to work on a fresh run of the show.
Nicola van Niekerk, Showmax’s acting head of content, said about plans for a localised adaptation of the mockumentary sitcom: “(Our) relaunch slate included all nine seasons of the American version of ‘The Office’ which went straight into our top five international series on the platform for the month.
“So we know our audience is going to be as excited to see our hyperlocal version as we are to make it.
“Our very first Showmax Original was a mockumentary, ‘Tali’s Wedding Diary’, so we’re delighted, just seven years later, to start reimagining the most iconic mockumentary of them all.”
The localised version will debut on Showmax and kykNET, DStv’s Afrikaans channel.
Rapid Blue, which is part of BBC Studios’ international production network, is set to begin production in 2025.
The firm’s managing director Ziyanda Ngcaba added: “We are proud to be producing the first African version of ‘The Office’ for Showmax and kykNET.
“The format is globally recognised and adored by audiences all over the world.”
The South African edition, which remains untitled, will be filmed primarily in the Afrikaans language.
It marks the 14th international adaptation of ‘The Office’ as it has also been adapted in Australia, France, Canada, Chile, Israel, India, the Middle East and Poland among others.
The original British version of ‘The Office’ created by Ricky, 63, and Stephen Merchant, 49, was first shown on the BBC more than 20 years ago.
Its American adaptation starring Steve Carell, 62, as boss Michael Scott won five Emmy Awards and was the most streamed show worldwide in 2020.

James McAvoy based Speak No Evil character on Andrew Tate

OHMYGOSSIP — James McAvoy used Andrew Tate as inspiration for his villain in ‘Speak No Evil’.
The 45-year-old actor stars as the sinister Paddy in the English-language remake of the 2022 Danish psychological horror film, and McAvoy has now revealed he loosely based his performance on the controversial 37-year-old social media influencer who is famous for promoting toxic masculine behaviour to his millions of followers.
In an interview with Empire magazine, he said: “The thing I thought I could exploit in the character was, he thinks he’s a bit of a f****** West Country Andrew Tate.
“He’s like, ‘I’m going to teach you what it’s like to be a man again.’ But there’s a sort of polite face on it that isn’t quite Andrew Tate, enough of a sheen of, ‘I’m not one of those guys.’
“He’s [Paddy’s] challenging you, ‘Do you have a big enough d*** to have a drink with me?’, Or, ‘I’m sorry, this is too much for you because you’re not real enough.'”
The ‘X-Men: First Class’ actor blended Tate’s misogynistic outlook with the Australian slang term ‘Bogan’ – meaning an unsophisticated person who can be “associated with a certain level of toxic masculinity” – and Mark Rylance’s character Rooster from the play ‘Jerusalem’, who was a dangerous social outcast.
He said: “You wanted something a bit agricultural.
“I had two big visual touchstones. The first was the Australian term ‘bogan’, which can be associated with a certain level of toxic masculinity.
“And the other was the character Rooster from ‘Jerusalem’, played so brilliantly by Mark Rylance.”
McAvoy – who stars alongside Scoot McNairy, Mackenzie Davis and Aisling Franciosi in the upcoming movie – had to put on a lot of muscle to play Paddy, although compared his somewhat relaxed demeanour to Ray Winstone’s safecracker character Gary ‘Gal’ Dove in the 2001 gangster picture ‘Sexy Beast’.
He explained: “Even though he’s all masculine and throwing his d*** around, he’s just a bit softer. Almost a Ray Winstone in ‘Sexy Beast’ vibe: ‘I don’t mind if my belly’s sticking out, because that’s how comfortable a man I f****** am.'”
‘Speak No Evil’ is scheduled to be released by Universal Pictures on September 13.

Angelina Jolie turned to children for help on Maria set

OHMYGOSSIP — Angelina Jolie’s children helped her cope with her latest movie role.
The 49-year-old actress plays renowned opera singer Maria Callas in Pablo Larraín’s new biopic ‘Maria’ and Angelina – who has six children aged between 16 and 23 – revealed she relied on her kids whenever she had a tough day on set.
She told The Hollywood Reporter: “I have never had a set where my family is not allowed to be there because I’m focusing — I’m not that person. You can climb all over me or visit. It really meant a lot that my boys were with me on ‘Maria’. When I would have really heavy times, they would come over and just give me a hug or a cup of tea.
“That was probably one of the more intense things was that —usually when I’m expressing that much pain, it’s not in front of my children. You really try to hide from your children how much pain and sadness you carry. And so for them to be with you when you’re expressing it at such a level, I think it was the first time they ever heard me cry like that. That’s usually for the shower.”
Angelina plays Maria when the singing icon was nearing death and losing her voice.
The opera legend is still renowned as the greatest voice in the history of opera and died in 1977 aged 53 after a spell of illness and isolation.
And, two of Angelina’s sons, Maddox and Pax, even worked on the film with her.
She said: “Mad and Pax were on this one. Doing AD [assistant directing] work. They’ve done that quite a few times, and I think that’s good for them. Pax tends to do stills and he gets brought in, and Pablo was wonderful and saw that he was good at it.”
And, after taking time out to focus on raising her family, Angelina revealed she is excited to be now taking on more work.
She said: “They’re a bit older, getting more independent. I’m less needed and so able to go away for different periods of time. And they’re old enough to join me at work. It’s a new season in our lives. I’m very excited for them to be coming into their own more and more every day.”

Chloe Goodman: ‘Medically I can’t have any more children’

OHMYGOSSIP — Chloe Goodman says it would be “too risky” medically to have more children.
Although the 31-year-old TV personality would love to have more kids with footballer husband Grant Hall, previous health complications have made it practically impossible for them to expand their family naturally.
Chloe – who had half her cervix removed in 2018 following an abnormal smear test – told MailOnline: “With my youngest growing up, I totally get why mums go “shall we have another?”
“You look back with rose tinted glasses. You forget all the hard times, and you only remember the special moments that you have.
“I would have had another one but medically I can’t have any more children. It’s too risky.
“The pregnancies were really difficult with Isla and Hudson and I think I would lose the [pregnancies] if I kept trying.
“So I’m not one to be greedy. I have a girl and a boy and they’re brilliant.
“I think, in a way, knowing that I don’t have an option of having another one, it makes me cherish these moments more so I’m really present when I have them.
“When we’re together, I’m really in the moment.”
Chloe and Grant have a four-year-old daughter Isla and two-year-old son Hudson together.

Spencer Matthews rules out another 30 marathons challenge

OHMYGOSSIP — Spencer Matthews won’t take on another 30 marathons in 30 days challenge because of his children.
The former ‘Made in Chelsea’ star took part in the epic task across the Jordanian desert in the peak of summer for Global’s Make Some Noise charity, and while he is proud of himself for completing it, he insisted that he won’t be repeating the challenge.
Spencer – who has children Theodore, Gigi and Otto with wife Vogue Williams – told MailOnline: “I haven’t given any thought to the next challenge while completing this because every day was certainly a threat.
“I’m not sure I’ll be planning too many 30-day records again because our children are quite young and spending a month away from them is difficult.
“I need to publicly thank Vogue again for holding the fort and looking after our children while I was away chasing this dream.”
While Spencer completed the challenge, he admitted it was not easy and it took a toll on his body.
He said: “It is impossible to run nearly 1,300 kilometres without niggles, aches and pains. I was surprised by the human body and my ability to recover.
“When I would go out on a long run before and hurt my knee, you just give yourself a few days to recover but that wasn’t an option here.
“I had niggles in ligaments, joints, both knees, tendons, I had a tendon endoscopy in my right foot, both my Achilles tendons felt like they had snapped at one point, obviously they didn’t but that’s how it felt.”
And, he revealed he had a “really bad fall” during the adventure.
He said: “I took a really bad fall on the last day, it was lucky it came on the last day. I was running quite quickly through really rough terrain.
“I tripped so hard that I didn’t realise until I had rolled down this rocky edge. I was lucky I didn’t hurt myself.
“I was running relatively fast when it happened and there was a sudden impact so I was lucky not to have broken my ankle or something and I was able to carry on.
“Crossing the finish line has closed the chapter on this challenge but has opened a completely new part of my life.
“I know it sounds dramatic, but I am pretty good at this and it’s something that I love.”

Bruno Tonioli for BGT return

OHMYGOSSIP — Bruno Tonioli will return to ‘Britain’s Got Talent’.
There had been some concern that the 68-year-old star would be unable to take part in the show due to clashes with ‘Dancing With The Stars’ in the US but show boss Simon Cowell is pulling out all the stops to ensure Bruno’s participation.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “When Bruno joined ‘BGT’ last year, he breathed new life into the show. Simon loved how unpredictable he was and thought he made great TV. From the ratings, it’s clear the viewers agreed too.
“When plans were drawn up to revamp ‘BGT’ for 2025, it was quickly flagged to Simon and the producers that Bruno is already committed to ‘Dancing With The Stars’.
“Simon managed to find a way to make it work. It means while a stand-in judge may be needed once or twice, Bruno remains on the show.
“Flying back and forth isn’t ideal for him but he loves both shows and is committed to them.”
Bruno will jet back and forth between the US and UK in order to take part in both shows.
While Alan Carr had initially been tipped to replace Bruno, he is now being lined up to stand in for the judge in the event of any scheduling clashes.
Alesha Dixon and Amanda Holden will also remain as judges, alongside Bruno and Simon.

Jude Law stalked Nicholas Hoult to prepare for The Order

OHMYGOSSIP — Jude Law stalked his ‘The Order’ co-star Nicholas Hoult for a day to prepare for his role as federal agent Terry Husk.
The movie’s director Justin Kurzel handed out various tasks to the cast in of the crime thriller film about a white supremacist mob, including having Jude follow Nicholas, who plays neo-Nazi activist Bob Mathews, around without him batting an eyelid.
Speaking at a press conference at the Venice Film Festival on Saturday (31.08.24), Nicholas said: “I’ve never … prepared in this way before, where Justin gave us tasks.
“I just found out on the boat here [that] one of Jude’s tasks was to follow me for the day. I just found out. But he was trailing me for a day and I didn’t know about it.”
The pair also didn’t speak to each other for many weeks on set.
He shared: “The crew did a really great job of keeping us [in] different forces … throughout the film.”
Looking at Jude, he continued: “I remember seeing you in the rearview mirror of my car and then following you. But otherwise, [the] first time we spoke was during the scene where we first interact, and so that gave a great energy to those moments.”
‘The Order’ is an adaptation of the 1989 non-fiction book ‘The Silent Brotherhood’ by Kevin Flynn and Gary Gerhardt, which tells the story of a string of increasingly violent bank robberies as well as counterfeiting operations and armoured car heists that terrify frightens communities throughout the Pacific Northwest in 1983.
A synopsis of the book says: “As baffled law enforcement agents scrambled for answers, a lone FBI agent, stationed in the sleepy, picturesque town of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, comes to believe the crimes are not the work of traditional, financially motivated criminals, but of a group of dangerous domestic terrorists, inspired by a radical, charismatic leader, plotting a devastating war against the federal government of the United States.”

Paul Mescal refused to watch Gladiator before making sequel

OHMYGOSSIP — Paul Mescal deliberately avoided watching ‘Gladiator’ before beginning work on the sequel.
Although he saw Sir Ridley Scott’s epic when it hit cinemas in 2000, the 28-year-old actor refused to revisit the movie until work on the movie wrapped.
However, once he did watch the film, Mescal admitted he felt the “pressure” of whether ‘Gladiator II’ would live up to the first flick, which saw Russell Crowe win an Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance as enslaved General Maximus Decimus Meridius.
He told Empire magazine: “Over New Year’s, we watched it with a group of my best friends down in Cork, and that’s when I was like, ‘Oh s***. The pressure.'”
Despite feeling nervous, the ‘All of Us Strangers’ star is quietly confident the sequel will impress audiences when it hits theatres on 15 November.
He said: “Whatever anxiety I had about living up to the first one, I now feel totally at ease. In fact, I’m confident.
“I’m excited for people to see it rather than hoping we’re going to get away with it – that would be the worst-case scenario.”
The ‘Normal People’ actor plays the gladiator Lucius – the grandson of Rome’s former emperor Marcus Aurelius and son of Lucilla – says the movie is an emotionally-taxing take on the classic “hero’s journey”.
He said: “I think the root of this is a hero’s journey, and somebody who’s reticent and doesn’t know his place in the world.
“There’s a latent emotionality in the film, but the scale of performance [it required] couldn’t be what I’m used to – which is kind of more internal and inviting an audience in.”
Mescal stars with Pedro Pascal, Denzel Washington and Joseph Quinn in ‘Gladiator II’ and the Irish actor heaped praise on Alien’ director Scott for teaching him invaluable lessons about filmmaking, even if he hasn’t quite grasped their exact meanings yet.
He explained: “He doesn’t buy into the narrative that people set up around him. He’s just single-minded and focused on the job at hand.
“He’s been working in film for twice as long as I’ve been alive, and he refers to the process of filmmaking as being a day job.
“I haven’t been able to fully understand what that means yet, because I’m at a kind of eager part of my career where it feels like it’s your life.”

Pete Wicks wasn’t a fan of Strictly until his ‘taster’ day

OHMYGOSSIP — Pete Wicks wasn’t a fan of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ before joining the show.
The former ‘The Only Way is Essex’ star, 35, was begged to sign up for the BBC One Latin and ballroom show by his manager and close pal Sam Thompson, and he wasn’t that fussed about it until he enjoyed his “taster” day.
He told former ‘Made in Chelsea’ star Sam, 32, on their ‘Staying Relevant’ podcast: “It’s the last thing I think anyone would ever think I would do.
“I’ve never thought about doing it.
“I’ve never really watched Strictly.”
He continued: “You do like a taster day where I had to see how I got on for an hour with one of the pros.
“And I am going to be honest with you, I went because I was semi-forced by my management and Sam and anyone else obsessed
with Strictly.
“And I did the taster and I f****** loved it.
“I genuinely loved it.”
However, the tattooed hunk admits he regrets giving the costume department free reign to put him in absolutely anything.
He said: “You also see like the costume team and they discuss what you like wearing, what you’re comfortable in and how far you’d like to go with it.
“I spoke to my management beforehand and they said to me, ‘In for a penny, in for a pound.’ So the costume lady was like, ‘We’re gonna have some fun.’ I instantly regretted saying that.”
Pete is seemingly nervous about what people will think of him as he takes to the dancefloor in front of millions of viewers.
He concluded: “So many people are gonna watch, but they’re people who don’t know. They’re gonna f****** hate me.”
