Elizabeth McGovern urges female actors to ‘own’ sexual journeys in Hollywood

OHMYGOSSIP — Elizabeth McGovern has urged female actors to “own” the sexual side of their “journey”.
The 63-year-old actress – known for her roles in the likes of ‘Downton Abbey’ – has recalled her experiences of fame at 19, and she insisted many of her sexual experiences in her 20s were “educational”.
She told the ‘Rosebud’ podcast: “I think back on that whole time. Of course there were lots of sexual experiences.
“And now this kind of recent way that people have started to look again at work practices has been very interesting for me, because when I think back on my early professional life I have to say and take responsibility for the fact that I was as interested in having sexual experiences as the guys.
“And I have to say I wanted it and appreciated it, and sometimes I think that women should own that a bit in their journey professionally.”
Elizabeth noted she “can only speak for” herself, but she “needed” to go down that path as “part of the process” of growing up.
She added: “For me, I had what I consider to be very educational experiences with different people along that way during that decade, and it was very good for me.
“I really needed it.”
Elizabeth – who insisted there were no unhappy experiences – recalled her debut role in 1980’s ‘Ordinary People’ during a period where she lost touch with her friends from high school.
She said: “Right after I graduated high school [came] what I feel in retrospect is sort of a cataclysmic turn of events, which was for one reason or another I was suddenly for a short period of time a ‘movie star’.
“I was in high school and we were all thinking about graduating and what we were going to do and where we were going to go.
“I was auditioning for drama schools, and they were looking for kids to be in a movie that was being cast called ‘Ordinary People’ that Robert Redford was directing.
“That kick started a career that led to me being in director Milos Forman’s Ragtime the next year, and so it felt like there was a snowball career happening.
“I say cataclysmic because it really slightly derailed me. I suddenly felt very separated from all the friendships I’d formed in high school.”
She had “a kind of boyfriend” at the time, and they have remained in touch.
She explained: “I did have a kind of boyfriend – that was a sort of physical awakening. And actually a really lovely guy that I’m sometimes in touch with still.”

Cynthia Erivo hits back at ‘annoying’ question everyone asks about her long nails

OHMYGOSSIP — Cynthia Erivo was “annoyed” by Dax Shepard’s “inappropriate” question about her long nails.
The ‘Wicked’ actress – who plays Elphaba in the big screen adaptation of the iconic musical – admitted she is getting bored of people asking about her manicure, particularly when it comes to the same query about the logistics of going to the bathroom.
On the latest episode of his ‘Armchair Expert’ podcast, Dax said: “Can I ask you a really crazy question that’s inappropriate?”
The 37-year-old star quickly interjected, insisting she knew what he was going to ask because it’s something “no one’s afraid” to bring up.
She said: “Everybody asks that question, and my answer is that nobody uses just their fingers to wipe their backside.
“You use tissue, correct? And you wipe!”
She pointed out that toilet paper goes on “the pads of the fingers”, meaning she doesn’t “feel” her nails.
Although she understands why people are curious, she is done with the questions.
Dax asked if she was “offended” by the inquiry”, and she explained: “I’m annoyed by it. I’m, like, ‘Come on, guys.’
“But I get it, but it’s also, like, ‘I’m a functioning adult, and I’ve never walked around smelling like, you know…’
“Here’s the thing, there are people who do not have nails who need to check how they’re wiping.”
The Broadway star joked that there are some people who’ve asked how she gets anything done at all with her long nails.
She quipped: “And I’m like, ‘I mean, I’m here! I’m dressed.’ ”
Cynthia recently admitted she has always thought of herself as “different” and hopes that others who feel the same way will be inspired when they see Elphaba in the film.
She told ‘The View’: “I think I’m a bit of an odd one out often. I walk into the room, and especially in this particular field of work, I’m different.
“There aren’t many who look like me. I stick out, I’m an odd one out.
“I hope that people see Elphaba and understand if they feel different, and if they feel like they’re on the outside, that that only makes them more special.”

Chad Michael Murray’s kids helped him prepare for The Merry Gentlemen

OHMYGOSSIP — Chad Michael Murray’s children helped him to prepare for his role in ‘The Merry Gentlemen’.
The 43-year-old actor got himself in tip-top shape to star in the Netflix movie, and Chad has revealed how his kids helped him to prepare for the role.
The Hollywood star – who has a son and two daughters with his wife, actress Sarah Roemer – told ‘Extra’: “I try to make everything a game at the house and, you know, I involved the kids and the family as much as possible, so it ended up becoming, you know, a daily regimen and going into the garage and creating my little space, but my kids would train me.
“Like, they’d come in and my daughter, she’d sit up on the machine and she’d be like, ‘25 more, Daddy!’ And, you know, they count them out, so I’d go, ‘Hey, guys, what number am I on?’”
Chad also dances in the new rom-com and the actor admitted that it required “a lot of work” to prepare for his role.
He said: “It’s not that I don’t dance. It’s just that I have never danced professionally. Like, weddings … the shower … around the kitchen when the kids are like, ‘Stop, Dad. Stop. What are you doing?’
“I love it … So, yeah, it was just one of those things, like, I didn’t want to let anybody down, so yeah, it was a lot of work.”
Meanwhile, Chad previously admitted to being “a family guy”.
The actor considers his family to be his number one priority in life, and he’s made a concerted effort to keep his personal life out of the spotlight.
He told E! News: “I’m a family guy. I want that core. I tend to keep everything quiet. I love my life. That’s the part that I keep for myself.”

Priest who let Sabrina Carpenter film video in church stripped of his duties

OHMYGOSSIP — A New York priest who let Sabrina Carpenter film her ‘Feather’ music video in his church has been stripped of his duties.
Monsignor Jamie Gigantiello has been relieved of “any pastoral oversight or governance role” after an investigation revealed other instances of mismanagement.
In a statement, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn’s Bishop Robert Brennan said: “I am saddened to share that investigations conducted by Alvarez and Marsal and Sullivan and Cromwell LLP have uncovered evidence of serious violations of diocesan policies and protocols at Our Lady of Mount Carmel – Annunciation Parish. “In order to safeguard the public trust, and to protect church funds, I have appointed Bishop Witold Mroziewski as administrator of the Parish.”
Gigantiello has been relieved of his duties at the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Williamsburg.
He had been criticised last year after Sabrina filmed part of her video for ‘Feather’ at the church.
In the promo, the former Disney Channel star arrives at the church in a pink hearse and dancing in front of the altar in a short black dress and black veil.
The video itself, men behave badly towards her and die in grisly ways.
The priest was demoted in late 2023, with the diociese saying: “The parish did not follow diocesan policy regarding the filming on Church property, which includes a review of the scenes and script.”
At the time, the priest said he was upset by the video, as he gave his “sincere apologies” to both the church and its parishoners.
He insisted his goal with letting the video be filmed in the church was to “strengthen the bonds between the young creative artists who make up a large part of this community and the parish”.
The controversy led to an investigation, which inadvertently revealed his made unauthorised financial transfers to New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ former aide Frank Carone.
The internal probe also revealed other issues, including Gigantiello making “substantial” personal expenses on a church credit card.

AI can’t replace creative filmmaking, says Ben Affleck

OHMYGOSSIP — Ben Affleck thinks movies will be “one of the last things” to be replaced by AI.
The 52-year-old actor believes AI technology can replicate the “more laborious, less creative” aspects of filmmaking – but Ben insists he isn’t worried about AI taking over Hollywood.
Speaking at CNBC’s Delivering Alpha 2024 investor summit, Ben explained: “AI can write you excellent imitative verse that sounds Elizabethan. It cannot write you Shakespeare.
“The function of having two actors or three or four actors in a room and the taste to discern and construct … that is something that currently entirely alludes AI’s capability and I think will for a meaningful period of time.
“What AI is going to do is dis-intermediate the more laborious, less creative, and more costly aspects of filmmaking that will allow costs to be brought down, that will lower the barrier to entry, that will allow more voices to be heard, that will make it easier for the people want to make ‘Good Will Huntings’ to go out and make it.”
Ben observed that AI is great at “imitating”. However, he suggested the technology doesn’t have the power to produce creative, original ideas.
The award-winning star – who has also enjoyed significant success as a director – said: “AI is a craftsman at best. Craftsmen can learn to make Stickley Furniture by sitting down next to somebody and seeing what their technique is and imitating. That’s how large video models, large language models, basically work. They’re just cross pollinating things that exist. Nothing new is created.
“Craftsman is knowing how to work. Art is knowing when to stop. And I think knowing when to stop is going to be a very difficult thing for AI to learn because it’s taste. And also lack of consistency, lack of controls, lack of quality.”

Fiona Shaw says ‘dial is turning’ for women on television

OHMYGOSSIP — Fiona Shaw insists “the dial is turning” for women in television.
The 66-year-old actress – who has appeared on the big and small screen in the likes of ‘Harry Potter’, ‘Enola Holmes’, ‘Killing Eve’, ‘Andor and Apple TV+ series ‘Bad Sisters’ – is glad to see the perception changing with more performers getting the chance to lead their own projects.
She told the Metro newspaper’s 60 Seconds column: “I think there was a myth that men could only lead series and that is simply not true.
“I started my TV career at 50 and I assumed we were all washed up, and it’s not the case – if anything, the dial is turning.
“The world of female deceit, madness, pleasure, excitement and joy is really penetrating the camera and people just love it. The more the merrier.”
In the past, Fiona – who played Petunia Dursley in the ‘Harry Potter’ franchise – claimed she kept working in theatre because there were more opportunities on stage, but things are shifting.
She explained: “I mean I am very lucky and I am having a ball. Being in ‘Killing Eve’ for four years was great fun. I had enough to keep me interested.
“I had other things but I was really involved in that and the same with [‘Bad Sisters’] – this took six months.
“That’s what I had in theatre and I’m grateful to now have it in movies and TV.”
For a long time, Fiona would be stopped in the street by Potter fans recognising her from her role in the classic films.
However, she noted that now people will want to meet her from all sorts of projects over her career, depending on the demographic.
She said: “It depends on where you are. If I’m in an art gallery it’s ‘Killing Eve’. If I’m crossing Regent Street, it’s ‘Killing Eve’.
“If it’s New York, it’s ‘Medea’ on stage and if it’s kids, it’s ‘Harry Potter’. There’s different groups and I can spot them.”

Barry Keoghan has learned to ‘stop making excuses’

OHMYGOSSIP — Barry Keoghan began enjoying life more when he stopped “making excuses for stuff”.
The 32-year-old actor has enjoyed a meteoric rise in recent years, and Barry has hailed his “team” for creating a strong support system around him.
He told the ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast: “I’ve got a really strong team around me. People I massively care about and they massively care about me. They’re everything.
“I’ve got a right-hand man who doesn’t leave my side – he’s outside. You know, literally, he comes everywhere with me. He’s responsible for a lot of stuff.”
Barry has also relied on his own resilience to cope with the pitfalls of fame and success.
The acclaimed actor believes that therapy sessions have helped him to cope with the pressures, too.
He said: “I’m just in strong in myself, you know? When you make a decision to step up and rise up to it, and … get on with it, understand that you need to do stuff like therapy to grow and be honest with yourself about certain things. That’s when you grow.
“When you’re making excuses for stuff, you’re not getting anywhere. I think that’s one of the reasons why I’m starting to enjoy life as it is.”
Barry is dating pop star Sabrina Carpenter, and he recently admitted to being “in awe” of her work ethic.
The actor – who began dating Sabrina back in 2023 – said on ‘The Jess Cagle Show’: “I don’t know anyone who works as hard, you know?
“I’m in awe of her, watching her work and her [commitment] and the standards that she sets, especially being on that [‘Please Please Please’] music video. She knows the vision, she knows what she wants.”

Florence Pugh froze her eggs at 27

OHMYGOSSIP — Florence Pugh had her eggs frozen at 27 after she was diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and endometriosis.
The 28-year-old movie star opted to freeze her eggs after she was diagnosed with conditions, which could potentially make it tough for her to conceive later in life.
During an appearance on the ‘SHE MD’ podcast, Florence shared: “I had this sudden feeling that I should go and get everything checked. I’d had a few weird dreams, I think my body was telling me.
“She asked if I’d ever had an egg count done and I was like, ‘No what do you mean? I’m so young. Why do I need an egg count?'”
Florence felt shocked when she was asked to consider freezing her eggs.
The Hollywood star has always dreamed of having children and she never really considered that it may become problematic.
She explained: “It was just so bizarre because my family are baby-making machines.
“My mum had babies into her 40s. My gran had babies throughout … And then of course, I learned completely different information, at age 27, that I need to get my eggs out, and do it quickly, which was just a bit of a mind-boggling realisation, and one that I’m really lucky and glad that I found out when I did because I’ve been wanting kids since I was a child.”
Although PCOS is the leading cause of infertility in women, Florence didn’t realise it was so common.
She added: “I really just thought that it was something that you’d feel and that you’d know you had and that it wasn’t really a worry. And then of course you find out you do have it, and you realise you have to change your lifestyle, you have to be proactive and think ahead into the future.
“I think [for] lots of young women, that’s not really necessarily what you’re thinking of doing when you’re in your 20s.”

The actress – who also starred alongside Drew in ‘Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle’ in 2002 – said: “I was like, ‘What are you doing? Get in the house!'”

Now we don’t have to worry about public rejection, we can just hide behind the app. Forget it. I’m over it. I want to talk to people in real life.
“I still want to meet someone the old-fashioned way.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Scott Mills feels honoured to be replacing Zoe Ball as the host of BBC Radio 2’s ‘Breakfast Show’.
The 51-year-old DJ is “thrilled” to be following in the footsteps of Zoe, Sir Terry Wogan and Chris Evans as the host of the iconic show.

The 35-year-old actress admits that her life has become “chaotic and hectic” since she became a mom earlier this year, and Vanessa now prefers to “keep things cosy”.
The brunette beauty – who welcomed her first child with her husband, baseball player Cole Tucker, earlier in 2024 – told E! News: “I’m such a comfy girl.
“It’s so funny because I used to be so about dressing up and themes every moment I could get. The older that I get, the more practical I get.
“Life is chaotic and hectic. I don’t need to make it any more stressful than it needs to be. So, I keep things cosy.”
Vanessa doesn’t put too much pressure on herself to look a certain way, either.
She explained: “It really is about what works for you that day and having grace for yourself because it will change.”

Vanessa previously won the TV show ‘The Masked Singer’ and she explained why the triumph was so meaningful to her.
She shared: “Being a winner is always amazing. Especially when it had nothing to do with Vanessa Hudgens and had everything to do with what’s inside and what I actually bring to the table.
“It was a really beautiful journey for me to be able to go on and it really caught me by surprise how emotional it made me.”

Cher recalls being trapped in ‘involuntary servitude’ to Sonny Bono

OHMYGOSSIP — Cher was told she was trapped in “involuntary servitude” to Sonny Bono amid their divorce.
The 78-year-old music star enjoyed huge success alongside Sonny – who died in January 1998, aged 62 – but record executive David Geffen, her then-boyfriend, pointed out that she was trapped in a one-sided employment contract.
In ‘Cher: The Memoir’, she recalls: “I told him I didn’t know [how I was paid] because I’d never read it. ‘It’s about time you did,’ he replied, and somehow he got his hands on the document, I’m not sure how.
“He called me up after reading it and said, ‘Sweetheart, this contract is involuntary servitude. You work for Sonny. You have no rights, no vote, no money, nothing. You’re an employee of something called ‘Cher Enterprises’ with a salary you were likely never paid and three weeks’ vacation per year. He owns 95 per cent of the company and the rest belongs to his lawyer, Irwin Spiegel.'”
Cher initially struggled to believe what she was being told.
The award-winning star – who was married to Sonny between 1964 and 1975 – said: “Then David started reading the contract to me, and sure enough, I couldn’t even sign a cheque or withdraw any money without Sonny or Irwin’s signature.
“I was an employee of Cher Enterprises with no ownership, so I couldn’t access any of the money I earned for the company.”
Cher also learned that she needed Sonny’s approval if she wanted to earn money.
The pop star explained: “I was signed to the company and could only work with Sonny’s permission. That meant not only did I have no money, I had no way to make any money unless Sonny signed off on it.”

The former ‘Dancing with the Stars’ contestant – who shot to fame as a child on ‘Dance Moms’ and was then a prominent face on Nickelodeon for a number of years – has previously dated the likes of Avery Cyrus and Kylie Prew in recent times but admitted that she has learned some “hard lessons” since growing up in the public eye.
She told E! News: ” You f*** up! And you put things public that shouldn’t be and unfortunately, that is the only way you learn sometimes. And I’ve had to learn some hard lessons but they’ve paid off in the end..”
The split comes just days after JoJo claimed that despite having only known Dakayla for a short time, she had “never been” in a relationship that one before.
She said: “Just around three months ago, I got into a relationship with an incredible girl and it’s been interesting.
“I was OK to go public with her. She feels special and we’re in a very comfortable place. I’ve never really been in this place that I’m at with her in a relationship before.
“I’m also so young. I’m 21. She’s also young. She’s only 19. We’re both still figuring life out and I think I accepted that. I’ve accepted we’re both figuring life out.

In October, JoJo had taken Dakayla on a trip to Disney World for her birthday which reportedly came at a cost of $30,000.

Coldplay enlist help of original Karate Kid star for new music video named after hit 1980s film

OHMYGOSSIP — Chris Martin video called Ralph Macchio to help create a music video for ‘The Karate Kid’.
The 47-year-old singer heads up the rock band Coldplay and got in touch with Ralph, 63, when he decided to create a clip for the song that takes its title from the former teen star’s most famous film.
Ralph said: “When Chris Martin pops up on your FaceTime asking you to help create a video to accompany what I found to be a beautifully emotional and poignant song – one inspired by a film I made over 40 years ago – there was only one answer.
“Having the opportunity to join Coldplay in Australia at one of their legendary live shows to collaborate on this music video was nothing short of a career highlight. The synergy with Chris, the band and our director Chris Candy was as pure as any I’ve experienced. I’m excited to share this with the world.”
In the video, Ralph stars as down-on-his-luck busker who gets his shot at a Coldplay stadium show.
The band – which is also made up of guitarist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman, drummer and percussionist Will Champion – got in touch with Ralph after he called The Karate Kid “a beautiful track” on social media after its October release.

Following its 1984 release, the film spawned two sequels, a 1994 spin-off and a remake in 2010.
The new track comes from Coldplay’s 10th studio album ‘Moon Music’, which topped the charts on both sides of the Atlantic upon its release.

Liam Payne will be laid to rest in a private ceremony this week and his 1D bandmates will attend

OHMYGOSSIP — Liam Payne will be laid to rest in a private ceremony on Wednesday afternoon.
The former One Direction star died after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires on October 16 at the age of 31 and it has now been revealed that his parents have put together a “perfect service” for him which will take place tomorrow (20.11.24), exactly five weeks on from the tragedy.
A source told The Sun: “Liam’s funeral is taking place tomorrow afternoon in the Home Counties.
“His family have gone to great lengths to put together the perfect service and give him the send-off he deserves.
“Liam may have been a global superstar but to Geoff and Karen he will always be their little boy.
“It is going to be an incredibly difficult day.”
The ‘Strip That Down’ singer shot to fame alongside Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, and Niall Horan as part of the ‘X Factor’-created group in 2010 and, according to the outlet, all of his bandmates will be in attendance.
It was also previously reported that music mogul Simon Cowell – who managed the ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ hitmakers throughout their heyday – is also set to travel to Britain for the funeral.
Just hours after Liam’s death, One Direction spoke out on the loss of their “brother” and promised to share more when the time was right.
In a statement posted to Instagram, they said: “We’re completely devastated by the news of Liam’s passing. In time, and when everyone is able to, there will be more to say. But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly.
“The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever. For now, our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and the fans who loved him alongside us. We will miss him terribly. We love you Liam.”
The Wolverhampton-born star had been in the Argentinian capital with his girlfriend Kate Cassidy to see Niall perform in concert but had decided to stay in the city for some time afterward.
Kate had left just days before the incident occurred and three individuals were later charged with “abandonment of a person followed by death, supply and facilitation of narcotics”, a statement from the office of prosecutor Andres Esteban Madrea confirmed in the weeks that followed.

Denzel Washington ‘doesn’t have a lot of friends’ in Hollywood

OHMYGOSSIP — Denzel Washington “doesn’t have a lot of friends” in Hollywood.
The 69-year-old actor – who has been married to Pauletta Washington since 1983 – has had a career on screen for more than four decades but admitted that he hasn’t managed to garner a great social circle from those also in the industry other than a select few.
Writing in an essay for Esquire, he said: “I don’t have a lot of actor friends. Family friends, sure, like [actor] Sam Jackson. His wife and Pauletta go way back, and he and I go all the way back to ‘A Soldier’s Play’, in 1981. But now, when I make a movie, I’m not trying to make friends. We wrap, I’m trying to go home. That’s not to say that if I see, I don’t know, Tom Hanks, it’s not great—it is! I love Tom Hanks. I just don’t see him. I didn’t see him much before Philadelphia, either. We’re in the same business but not necessarily the same town at any moment. Just the way it goes.”
The Oscar-winning star – who has Jon, 40, Katia, 36, as well as 33-year-old twins Olivia and Malcolm with Pauletta – follows the Christian faith and noted that it is just “not sexy” to discuss religion in the world of show business so he is unaware how many of his contemporaries also think like him.
He said: “It’s not fashionable. It’s not sexy. But that doesn’t mean people in Hollywood don’t believe. There’s no such thing called Hollywood anyway. What does that even mean? That to me means a street called Hollywood Boulevard.
“It’s not like we all meet somewhere and discuss what we believe. So I don’t know how many other actors have faith. I didn’t do no poll. How would I find that out? I mean, there’s no Church Actor Meetings I’ve been to.”
