OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Coronation Street’ has been hit with 73 Ofcom complaints amid the soap’s acid attack plot.
The UK’s communications regulator revealed several people have complained about the ITV show, after Monday night’s (27.03.23) episode when character Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) threw himself in the firing line of stalker Justin Rutherford’s (Andrew Still) corrosive chemical assault on bride Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan).
A number of viewers were shocked by the scene, and took to social media to air their views.
One wrote: “This is too much.”
Another posted: “Can’t believe Coronation Street would air something like that! Shocking!”
Earlier this week, actor Ryan told how he now has to spend two hours a day in makeup to have layered pieces of prosthetic put on accurately and taken back off, after his character was the victim of the attack.
When asked on ‘This Morning’ how long it takes to put his new prosthetics on, he said: “About an hour, and about an hour off. They’re getting quicker though.
“The hardest thing is to match direct continuity, with colouration. It’s layered pieces of prosthetic with Bondo, and then the colouration can take time as well. They have to match it to the scene before.”
Princess Anne visited the ‘Corrie’ set earlier this month as Patron of The Acid Survivors Trust International (ASTI), to speak to Ryan and his co-stars about the hard-hitting plot.
And Ryan admitted everyone was surprised how “well versed” she was about the soap.
He said: “She was extremely well versed in all things ‘Coronation Street’, so I think the few of us at the studio are hoping she is a bit of a fan. It would be nice.
“It was really lovely to have her in the studio. She came into the Rovers and we talked through the scene.”
