OHMYGOSSIP — Ex ‘Gogglebox’ star Josh Tapper is running to be a Labour MP.
The 25-year-old television personality feels it is “time to give back and fight for what you believe in” as he debuted his campaign to become the representative for Chipping Barnet in the House of Commons.
In a video posted to Twitter, he said: “Hi, I’m Josh Tapper and I’m standing to be Chipping Barnet’s next MP.
Some people may think I’m too young or inexperienced, but I ask you to judge me on my record.
“From reversing Tory neglect on our green spaces to pioneering institutional change of mental health support.
“I’ve always shown that no matter how big the challenge, I’ll always take it on and get the job done.”
Josh listed his credentials, such as working at a local food bank and his belief that “in 21st century Britain, no one should be going hungry, let alone our NHS heroes”.
The former campaign assistant – who left the Channel 4 show in 2017 – claimed “the Tories have driven our country into the ground” and insisted the country needs “a transformative Labour government”.
In the caption of the clip posted on social media Josh wrote: “Politics is about people. Our community taught me to work hard, stand up for others, give back and fight for what you believe in. Theresa Villiers doesn’t fight for the change we need. That’s why I’m standing to be the first Labour MP for Chipping Barnet.”
When he departed the show – a year before his dad Jonathan, mum Nikki and sister Amy moved on – Josh admitted his “focus” was on his career.
He said: “The option to go back is always there but I want to move away from that and the focus is now very much on my job.
“Of course, I miss it and the sitting on the couch watching TV. But I am more focused on my future … it’s a more a secure path.”
