OHMYGOSSIP — Adrian Dunbar wants to release a chart topping Christmas album.
The 64-year-old ‘Line of Duty’ star has landed his next TV stint in forthcoming ITV crime drama ‘Ridley’ where he will play retired detective inspector Alex Ridley.
In one scene, Alex is set to perform a jazz number and the musical tease has inspired the actor to release a festive collection based on his character.
Hoping to emulate the success of 80s drama ‘The Singing Detective’, he’s quoted by the Daily Star newspaper as saying: “A Ridley album would be good. ‘Ridley at Christmas’ or something like that.
“I have been talking to a couple of people about doing stuff. I might go a record a few things.
“I do tinkle a bit on the piano too. I wouldn’t call myself a pianist but I can knock out a few chords.”
The show follows Ridley as he comes to terms with his guilt over the tragic death of his wife and daughter, who died in a house fire which he’s partly responsible for.
As a coping mechanism, Alex often sings songs by Richard Hawley, whose tracks are often about grief.
Adrian added: “When he sings Jazz it is the only time he feels something.”
The actor – who rose to prominence playing Supt Ted Hastings in BBC hit drama ‘Line of Duty’ – said he has no issue playing another cop but stressed the difference in each character.
Speaking to BelfastLive, he said: “For me once I see myself out of uniform, it’s a completely different character.
“Ted is office bound and uniform bound, very tied and interesting, a dignified and formal character whereas this guy (Alex) is complicated and a bit gruff.
“You don’t feel warmth from him at the start, naturally enough because of what’s happened to him but I think that will progress.
“We’ve given ourselves a platform where we can progress his character and the series and see the development of all the characters. They’ve all got a backstory and somewhere to go and we can keep the audience alive with us by doing that.”
