OHMYGOSSIP — Kris Marshall has “never” seen an episode of ‘Doctor Who’.
The ‘Death In Paradise’ actor has repeatedly been tied to the iconic sci-fi show over the years whenever it’s time for a new Time Lord to take over to the TARDIS, but he has insisted the BBC hasn’t approached him.
He told Radio Times magazine: “If I’d been approached to audition for a show at the vanguard of TV for the last 50 years, I’d at least have done my research, but I’ve never seen an episode of ‘Doctor Who’.
“I’m sure it’s brilliant, but no, I’ve never been approached.”
The 49-year-old star – who left ‘Death In Paradise’ in 2017 – admitted he can see where the speculation came from, although he suggested it was never any more than that.
He added: “I left ‘Death in Paradise’ at around the same time as Peter Capaldi left ‘Doctor Who’, so the tabloids must have put two and two together to make five.”
Meanwhile, Ben Miller – who appeared opposite Kris in the first two series of the BBC detective drama – previously backed him as a great fit for playing the next Time Lord after Jodie Whittaker’s exit.
He added: “I have to say, I think that Kris would be brilliant in the role.”
Instead, ‘Sex Education’ star Ncuti Gatwa will play the part with returning showrunner Russell T Davies back at the helm, and the actor Ncuti said he wants to be “himself” as The Doctor.
Asked what he would bring to the role, he said: “Just myself, I think actors are incredible people that put so much of themselves into roles and so each one is going to be really different.
“Each Doctor that’s gone before has been so incredibly talented and so incredibly brilliant, I don’t know how I’m going to follow in their footsteps but I’m going to try my best.”
