OHMYGOSSIP — Oti Mabuse’s dating show ‘Romeo and Duet’ has been cancelled after one series.
The former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ star – who serves as a judge on ‘Dancing On Ice’ and ‘The Masked Dancer’ – made her solo presenting debut with the ITV programme earlier this year, which saw singletons trying to serenade potential partners.
However, an ITV spokesman told The Sun newspaper’s TV Biz column: “We have no plans for future series of ‘Roman and Duet’ at present.
“But we look forward to working with Oti again on ‘The Masked Dancer’ later this year and are actively discussing other projects going forward.”
It’s said the decision to axe the show “isn’t a reflection on Oti in an way”, and ITV bosses are still keen to find the right project for her.
A source said: “The feeling was that it wasn’t a case of Oti not being right for the show, more than the show wasn’t right for Oti.
“So many of our biggest hosts have had to suffer a few bumps in the road at the start of their career, and that’s how this is viewed by execs.
“They’re confident that this isn’t a reflection on Oti in any way and she’s still a figure who is much loved by the public.”
It was previously reported the decision was being made due to a slump in ratings, which were said to have bottomed out at 890,000 viewers for the last episode.
Meanwhile, it seems the 31-year-old professional dancer – who quit ‘Strictly’ earlier this year after seven years – could be open to a return and she isn’t ruling out a ballroom comeback one day.
She recently said: “‘Strictly’ has been everything to me and has given me this amazing platform that I have. No, I’m not done – it still has a place in my heart.”
