OHMYGOSSIP — Holly Willoughby was surprised with a beach set and a video message from Paul Young for her 40th birthday.
The ‘This Morning’ host was treated on Wednesday (10.02.21) as the ITV brunch-time show team celebrated her milestone with a special show to honour her special day.
Paul – who she referred to as her “boyfriend” when she was younger – said: “Hi Holly, it’s Paul Young here and a little birdy told me it’s your 40th birthday so I thought I’d send you a birthday message.
“They also told me you really were a bit of a fan back in the day, and you never let that on every time I’ve been on your show.
“Always the consummate professional – nearly as good as Phil. You’re better than him. So happy birthday Holly, have a wonderful day.”
The presenter arrived at the studio – which had been decorated with rainbow coloured balloons – and was greeted by her clapping colleagues.
She admitted: “It’s a feeling of extremes at the moment, all of this… Really emotional. Dan had woken me up at 6 o’clock this morning, and he played a video of all the family sending messages and stuff.
“By the time I’d left the house, I was already crying. To walk in and see that – there’s a rainbow balloon arch … it was really special. Thank you!”
Co-host Phillip Schofield revealed that as well as a Colin the Caterpillar cake – which she couldn’t share because of COVID-19 regulations – the team had also recreated her second birthday cake.
The show didn’t go as Holly had planned, with the team transforming the studio into a beach party, complete with chef James Martin in a Hawaiian shirt with the promise of tasty birthday treats.
The star was dressed for the occasion as she opted for an outfit worn by her mum on her own 40th birthday in the 1980s.
She explained: “This dress that I’m wearing today … this is the dress my mum wore on her 40th birthday. So she had a party in her garden back in the 80s.
“I asked mum a couple of weeks ago if she still had it, and of course it was still sitting there in her loft. It’s very 80s isn’t it? Look at the shoulder pads.
“She sent it up and I said, ‘It doesn’t fit anywhere, I can’t wear it, it’s no good’… I put it on this morning and I knew it’ll feel nice to wear something she wore on her day…
“It was a bit of a moment … ‘My mum did this on her 40th birthday and now I’m doing it on my 40th birthday’. It was quite special, and it’s even more special because I can’t be with her today.”
