OHMYGOSSIP — Alex Bain found it “scary” when fans asked him for photographs during his younger years.
The 19-year-old actor plays Simon Barlow in ‘Coronation Street’, and has admitted to struggling to deal with the pressures of fame after joining the ITV soap in 2008.
Alex told Digital Spy: “You’ve got all these people coming up to you saying, ‘Simon, Simon’. And it’s scary.
“But my family used to say, ‘Alex, when you don’t want to take any more pictures, especially when going on holiday, you don’t have to do it’. But I was always up for it.”
The soap star has now established some clear boundaries when it comes to his fans.
However, Alex has insisted he still values their support.
He added: “I’m always up to talk to people.”
Meanwhile, Alex previously admitted that he battled “dark times” at school.
The teenage star confessed to being teased for being a dancer during his school years.
He shared: “I went through quite a few tough times, even from primary school.
“Being the only male dancer, kids can be horrible.
“I never saw it as bullying, that naive lack of awareness as a child.
“I had a situation in school. It affected me, it affected me a lot more when I got older.”
However, Alex admitted that working on ‘Coronation Street’ has helped him to overcome the teasing he suffered during his younger years.
The soap star thinks the show’s cast and his family “kept [him] going” during the difficult moments.
He said: “I have struggled myself with mental health. I am open about it.
“I have been through dark times. If I didn’t stick at this job I am in now I would have been lost.”
