OHMYGOSSIP — Gabrielle “threatened to quit” ‘The Masked Singer’ on her first day.
The 51-year-old star – who was revealed as Harlequin on Saturday night (06.02.21) – was eliminated from the ITV singing competition over the weekend, but she very nearly walked away the first time she wore the elaborate costume.
She told The Sun newspaper: “That first day was probably the most emotional day of my life, because I threatened to quit.
“I was screaming, ‘Oh my god I don’t want to do this. It’s too heavy and I feel hot’. You know, ‘Call the lawyers!’ and everything.
“I feel I was menopausal. Men, what do they have? Women have it all — we go through childbirth, the menopause, monthlies — what the hell!”
However, she was delighted to reach the semi-finals of the show, and she “felt like a million dollars” despite the difficult circumstances.
She added: “Apart from when I was feeling hot and out of breath, I felt like a million dollars in that costume.
“It really was one of the best things I’ve ever done. I’m 52 this year, and I’m not afraid to say it loud and proud — now I’m more accepting of myself.
“I’m middle aged, and having the best time of my life.”
This series of ‘The Masked Singer’ has featured the likes of John Thomson (Bush Baby), Sophie Ellis-Bextor (Alien), Mel B (Seahorse), Glenn Hoddle (Grandfather Clock), Lenny Henry (Blob) and Sue Perkins (Dragon).
Reflecting on the lineup thus far, Gabrielle admitted: “I didn’t even know it was Mel B, I didn’t know it was Sophie, Glenn Hoddle, football manager, ex-player — how the hell has he got a voice like that?
“So I was just in awe of everybody. Until I watched it on Saturday I didn’t know that was Sue Perkins because they don’t allow you anywhere near when they’re unveiling. But how amazing was Sue’s voice? She needs to be singing more.”
