OHMYGOSSIP — Jeremy Edwards doesn’t want to return to ‘Hollyoaks’ because of social media trolls.
The 49-year-old actor – who played Kurt Benson on the Channel 4 soap between 1995 and 1999 before a brief return last year – has discussed the importance of focusing on his wife Lydia Metz, their daughter Scarlett, three, and their new arrival due in March.
He told The Sun newspaper: “With the imminent second baby due, and being away for long periods, I was always going to be on the fence about returning to ‘Hollyoaks’…
“[And] people being mean on Twitter just makes me question ‘what is the point?’ Sometimes it’s better just to step away and regroup rather than struggle on.
“It’s the smart thing to do. Especially with everything else going on. You have to look out for yourself and your family.”
Jeremy noted the criticism he came under during his appearances on ‘The X Factor: Celebrity’ in October 2019 still affects him, because his weight “wasn’t something [he’d] really thought about”.
Commenting on the cruel trolls, he added: “When it started, I thought, ‘Oh come on, I’m a dad, everyone puts on a few pounds’.
“Then I thought, ‘Wow people actually expect me to rock up with a six-pack’. I’ve had a back problem and as you get older, your metabolism changes.”
Last month, Jeremy and Lydia revealed they were expecting their second child after a “stressful” IVF journey.
He said at the time: “We’re incredibly excited, but the main feeling has been relief. Scarlett was conceived through IVF and so was this baby. We feel very blessed, as the process is actually really tough on Lyds.”
The soap star’s 36-year-old partner admitted they have been through “a lot” but they are delighted by the news.
She added: “It’s very stressful, but we feel so lucky that it worked both times for us on the first attempt.”
