OHMYGOSSIP — Former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ judge Arlene Phillips studies parcels for germs to protect herself from COVID-19.
At the age of 77, the choreographer is in a high risk group to get seriously ill from the respiratory illness so has taken as many precautions as she can to try not to contract it, including purchasing a UV lamp which detects germs on her packages.
Opening up on the measures she takes to protect herself from coronavirus, she said: “I’m a fighter. I have been through difficult times as a child and in my adult life. I have coped with everything thrown my way. I’m a survivor and refuse to sink. I’m also super careful to protect myself from the virus. At the age of 77, I’m in the vulnerable category, but I always wear a mask, wash my hands and we have a UV lamp at home so I can check every product and clean them when anything gets delivered.”
Arlene – who lives with her partner Angus Ion – admitted she found the first nationwide lockdown tough as she missed her work in the entertainment business so much, but whenever she was having a down day she would make sure indulged one of her creative hobbies or went for a long walk to clear her head.
In an interview with the latest issue of OK! magazine, she said: “I have a joy for life and living it to the full, but the [first] lockdown was hard. I was honestly like a yo-yo at the hands of Boris Johnson. One minute I was up and the other I was down. Theatre and dance is my world so for that to stop and the world to suddenly fall silent really affected me. However, every time I felt my mood dip I would ensure I did something to energise myself, either getting creative in some way or going for a long walk in nature. That really helps clear the mind.”
