OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Home and Away’s James Stewart admits the health woes of his on-screen character have been “really affecting”.
The 45-year-old actor plays Justin Morgan in the Australian soap and he’s discussed the challenge of his latest storyline, which has seen the character be diagnosed with a tumour on his spine.
Asked whether he’s found it tough to film, James replied: “Really very, very, very much so. For example, one in three people get cancer. It’s affected my life in a couple of ways and it’s hard not to think about that when you’re filming something like this. It’s really affecting.”
James also revealed how he first learned about the storyline.
Speaking to Digital Spy, he explained: “There are several times in a year where the producers will bring you upstairs and they give you a pitch for an arc. When I say the word arc, that’s like eight to twelve weeks of a particular story.
“So about two or three times a year you get that. They brought me up for this one and I really wanted to have a go at this.
“Ray Meagher once said to me, when I first joined the show, there are A scenes, B scenes and C scenes. C scenes, you’re up the back making the cup of tea. B scenes, you’re kind of delivering the cup of tea, and A scenes, the cup of tea falls on your lap and you’re the guy that has to deal with the pain of it. So all of a sudden Justin got an A storyline.”
James – who joined the soap in 2016 – admitted to loving the challenge but not the “idea”.
He said: “I just loved it. I didn’t love the idea of it, but I like that Justin was the motivator in most of the story.”
