OHMYGOSSIP — Anne Kirkbride used to “play havoc” with a remote-controlled fart machine on the ‘Coronation Street’ set.
That’s according to her co-star Martin Hancock, who has revealed the pair used to joke around with the guff gadget in between takes, and the pair would pull parp pranks on their fellow Weatherfield residents, including Sean Wilson (Martin Platt).
Martin – who played Geoffrey “Spider” Nugent on the ITV soap from 1997 to 2003 – said: “You’ve got all these iconic people, and you’re looking at them thinking, ‘Blimey, these people are my colleagues.’
“I’m mucking about with Anne Kirkbride. Me and Anne were pulling practical jokes.
“We were pulling jokes on Sean Wilson.
“Basically, Anne had a remote-controlled fart machine, and we played havoc on the set with it.”
Martin recalled one memorable moment of mischief when he and Deirdre Barlow star Anne – who sadly passed away in 2014 aged 60 – were in the toilets dropping pebbles down the pan while pretending to be “constipated” and leaving messages on Sean’s phone, as he was filming scenes on the cobbles.
Speaking on the ‘Distinct Nostalgia’ podcast, he added: “At one point we were pretending we were in the toilet constipated and we were dropping pebbles into a toilet, with a fart machine, while we had Sean Wilson’s phone.
“So we were leaving him these weird voicemails.
“Georgia Taylor was in there with us as well. Then Maxine (Tracy Shaw) walks in to use the toilet and the three of us were there around the toilet bowl going, ‘It’s not what it looks like.’ ”
