Nicole Scherzinger and Simon Cowell’s rival reality shows
OHMYGOSSIP — Nicole Scherzinger is set to go head-to-head with Simon Cowell on a rival Netflix talent show.
The former ‘X Factor’ judges – who worked together on the UK version of the show in 2016 and 2017 and on ‘X Factor: Celebrity’ in 2019 – will both launch pop star search shows in the coming months.
Nicole will star as a judge on ‘Building The Band’ – hosted by Backstreet Boys singer AJ McLean – which will see 50 hopefuls battle it out for a place in a new group.
This will be in competition with Simon’s ‘The Midas Touch’, where he will be hoping to find the next One Direction.
A source told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: “Nicole is a huge coup for Netflix as she has been on so many talent shows in the UK and the US in the past, so is synonymous with the genre. It shows how serious bosses at the streamer are about competing with the major channels.
“Nicole is the whole package. With her experience in the industry, she also brings personality, warmth and glamour. She’s perfect.
“Casting AJ is a shrewd move as he has a massive fanbase and is really quirky on screen.”
Meanwhile, Simon will be hoping to recreate the success he had at ‘X Factor’ auditions in 2010 when Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson auditioned as solo singers.
Simon and his fellow judges put the quintet together to form One Direction, who went on to become one of the biggest boybands in the world.
However, it is likely that Simon will make one big change with his new boyband after recently admitting his big regret with One Direction was that he did not keep the rights to the group’s name.
Speaking on ‘The Diary of a CEO’ podcast, Simon explained: “The one thing I regret is I should have kept the name. I should have owned the name. That’s the problem. When you give an artist the name, it’s not yours. And that’s my only regret. So if you’re listening, I’ll buy it back from you.
“If one of the band members, for whatever reason, say they don’t want to tour, it can stop the others [from] touring. So, if it was me who owned the name, it wouldn’t be a problem.”
