OHMYGOSSIP — Annabel Croft has thanked ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ for giving her a “purpose to get up in the morning” following the passing of her husband.
The 57-year-old former tennis ace lost her husband of 30 years, Mel Coleman, in May after he died of colon cancer aged 60, and ‘Strictly’ contestant Annabel – who is partnered by pro dancer Johannes Radebe on the BBC show – admitted she still misses him “terribly”.
Annabel – who wed Mel in 1993 – said on ‘This Morning’: “I’m not sure where I would be at if I hadn’t had this opportunity to dance with Johannes.
“I mean it has been a horrific year; it’s something I’d never have anticipated.
“It was never meant to be how life was going to be. I thought I had a future with my husband; we’ve been together since I was 21. 36 years together and I miss him terribly – there’s no question about it.”
Annabel is devastated Mel didn’t ever get the opportunity to meet Johannes, 36, because she believes the pair would’ve got on “so well”.
She said: “I want to speak to him about what we’re doing and I miss his humour.
“I really wish that Johannes had met him because I feel like they would have got on so well. And he adored Johannes when he used to watch the programme.
“I think it’s given me a purpose to get up in the morning and with some of the dances we’ve done, we’ve had such an incredible response – particularly our couple’s choice dance.”
In October, Annabel admitted she sobbed before her ‘Strictly’ debut while remembering Mel.
She told MailOnline: “I just sat and cried. Mel was my biggest supporter, my protector. He gave me confidence. He made things right, always had done. I wanted to talk to him. I wanted to say, ‘I am really nervous for tomorrow, but I don’t have you to make it OK.’
“I was about to go in front of millions of people and be jolly and happy but I was sobbing, thinking, ‘I don’t know where you are, Mel. Where have you gone?’ ”
