OHMYGOSSIP — Liam Fox hopes his shock ‘Emmerdale’ exit will help viewers in real life.
The 53-year-old actor bowed out of his long-running role as Dan Spencer on the ITV1 soap opera in scenes aired on Thursday (17.08.23) night when his character was sentenced to eight years behind bars for accidentally killing daughter Amelia’s cyberstalker Lloyd with a single punch.
Now, Liam hopes the storyline will teach viewers how just one swipe can have “catastrophic ” consequences.
He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “Millions watch Emmerdale and I hope if it makes one person watching stop and change their mind about how one punch can lead to catastrophic results, then this story is worth it for that alone.
“I know the sentence will come as a shock to fans but it’s important to get it right, especially as there are campaigns ongoing for people who commit manslaughter to get a longer sentence.”
The soap star – who is married to actress Joanna Hudson, and has son Ben with ex-wife Nicole Barber-Lane – went on to add that if the same tragic situation had befallen himself in real life, he would want the perpetrator to “pay” for their actions.
He added: “If someone killed my child or wife then I would want them to pay for it too.
“I’ve loved playing Dan because he is a likeable character. He wants to do the right thing but this story is one where he’s done everything against what Dan stands for.
“Whilst this story is bittersweet as it means I am leaving the soap, I have also had a brilliant time filming and I have even lost a stone in the process.”
