OHMYGOSSIP — Steph McGovern won’t do ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ because she doesn’t want to be away from her daughter.
The 41-year-old TV presenter admitted that she would “love” to take part in the BBC Latin and ballroom competition but is concentrating on her Channel 4 lunchtime show ‘Steph’s Packed Lunch’ – which is filmed in Leeds – and hopes that when her three-year-old daughter is old enough for her to be away from, she will be able to sign up for the London-based programme.
She told Prima Magazine: “I’d love to be a contestant on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, but it’s never been the right time to do it. I can’t do it now because I have the show and I don’t want to be away from my daughter, but I’m hoping it will still be going in years to come. I did do ‘The Masked Dancer’ last year. To get to show off my party trick, Irish dancing, on a shiny stage on a Saturday night programme was the best fun ever!”
The Middlesborough-born star – who has chosen to keep both her daughter and partner out of the public eye – went on to add that her “dream” is to keep her chatshow going for as long as she can so she can continue to “highlight social issues” as she carves out a “friendship” with her viewers.
She said: “My dream is to keep doing my show for as long as I can, and to keep highlighting social issues. I don’t think people realise just how bad the hidden poverty is in some parts of the UK. I work with a group of underprivileged girls who don’t even know what shower gel is.
“Loneliness is another big topic. We did a story on friendship and we got so many messages from people saying, ‘I’d love a friend.’ That’s something I feel passionate about because, in a way, doing lunchtime TV, you do become the viewers’ friend.”
