OHMYGOSSIP — Peter Andre suffered a breakdown at the age of 25 after years of “casual sex, posing and arrogance”.
The 50-year-old pop star shot to fame in the 1990s and became a pin-up and nightclub regular, but he has now admitted his early years in the spotlight were not good for him and it led to a mental health crisis which left him battling depression, panic attacks and agoraphobia.
In an interview with The Times, Peter’s pop hey day is described as including a lot of “casual sex, posing and arrogance” which he now regrets, with the ‘Mysterious Girl’ singer explaining: “It was an insecurity thing, trying to prove a point because of the years that you weren’t accepted. I don’t like who I became when I was just going with girls and not caring. I just went off on a tangent.”
Peter told the publication he went back to his native Australia to spend time with his family and then spent time in the US during six years away from the spotlight before returning to public life as a contestant in ‘I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here!’ in 2004 where he met his ex-wife Katie Price.
Speaking of his previous youthful “arrogance”, Peter insisted he’s now a changed man and the public perception of him is also totally different these days.
He added: “In the Nineties guys were thinking: ‘Are you looking at my girl?’ and all that. But now I’m not threatening in any sort of way, shape or form.”
Peter also credited his second wife Emily with helping him become a better person, saying: “I sort of went into this crazy life from my late teens to 40 and then all of a sudden she has brought out the simple part of me again.”
