OHMYGOSSIP — Alan Carr has claimed his divorce is the “best thing that could have happened”.
The 46-year-old comedian split from Paul Drayton in January 2022 after 13 years together, and while he has struggled with dating again, he believes their mutual decision was the right one.
Speaking on the ‘Organic Meets’ podcast, he said: “My ex wanted out as well. He’s doing his acting now.
“He’s moved on and I’ve moved on. It’s the best thing that could have happened.”
The star admitted he’s been trying to get used to being single again after so long in a relationship.
He explained: “Boy, being a 45-year old man – I’m 46 now – and coming out on the dating scene, it was like, ‘Oh my God’.
“I didn’t know what to do. I can’t do the apps. I do say to people, ‘Is there anyone?’ ”
Another issue he has found with online dating is the way potential partners can look very different in their social media photos.
He added: “You can’t trust anything now with the Instagram filters.
“I’ve looked at my friend’s profile and everyone’s on a sun lounger with a pina colada.
“We all look nice in the sun. Even I look a bit f****** better in the sun.”
Despite his struggles, Alan – who married Paul in 2018 – previously insisted he’s open-minded about the type of man he’s looking for.
Appearing on Australian radio, he said: “I’m up for anything, really. People say to me, ‘Has anyone has slid into my DMs?’ I’m like, ‘Slid? It’s more like crawled and died!'”
Meanwhile, he has no regrets about their relationship, admitting they both tried their best to make it work and that they are “still friends”.
The comedian – who married Paul in 2018 – said: “I’ve moved on, I’m still friends with Paul, he’s sort of getting on with his life. Sometimes it’s not a bad thing.
“It was 14 years, we gave it a go, it didn’t work out in lockdown. Who cares? Let’s move on.”
