OHMYGOSSIP — Hamza Yassin has been confirmed for ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The wildlife cameraman and presenter – who has appeared on the likes of BBC’s ‘Animal Park’ and ‘Countryfile’ – is the 13th celebrity to sign up for this year’s edition of the Beeb’s Latin and ballroom competition.
After the news was revealed on BBC Radio Scotland’s ‘The Afternoon Show’, he said in a statement: “I am absolutely over the moon to be joining ‘Strictly’ 2022.
“Never in a million years did I think I’d be on such a cool show. I’ve been watching it for years and I can’t believe I’ll actually be there dancing live in front of the British public.”
Yassin – known to CBeebies viewers as Ranger Hamza on both ‘Let’s Go For A Walk’ and upcoming series ‘Ranger Hamza’s Eco Quest’ – described his talents as “1970s disco vibes” but he’s ready to put in the work.
He added: “My dance skills are currently at the level of ‘1970s disco vibe’ but I’m ready to work hard and will be shaking it every time I get the chance – shake it ‘til you make it!”
As well as his BBC work, the Sudan-born star – who moved to the Scottish Hhighland when he was younger – recently fronted Channel 4’s ‘Scotland: My Life in the Wild’ and ‘Scotland: Escape to the Wilderness’.
The announcement follows the news that former ‘I’m A Celebrity’ and ‘X Factor’ star Fleur East has also signed up, and she admitted she’s “equally nervous and thrilled” by the prospect.
She said: “I’m excited to learn new skills and I want to soak up every moment of this magical experience.
“It’s such an honour to be on the show after years of watching it with my father who loved it so much.
“Unfortunately, my dad is no longer with us but I know he will be watching over the ballroom in spirit.”
The pair join Will Mellor, Kym Marsh, Richie Anderson, Kaye Adams, Jayde Adams, Ellie Simmonds, Tyler West, Matt Goss, Ellie Taylor, Molly Rainford and Tony Adams as the other celebrity contestants on this year’s series, with more to be revealed.
