OHMYGOSSIP — David Atherton has become a coronavirus vaccinator
‘The Great British Bake Off’ winner – who smashed the 2019 series of the baking competition – proudly showed off his ID badge after volunteering at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust to give out the vaccine.
Sharing his badge on Twitter, he wrote: “I’m a COVID Vaccinator! Please do your bit and come forward for your vaccine when invited. ‘I’ll be waiting and promise I’ll be gentle….”
The 38-year-old baker added: “WARNING, If you’re going to make a joke about me pricking you, it better be good!”
A number of fans reached out to congratulate David on his new role and are hoping they will get a chance to meet the ‘GBBO’ star.
One wrote: “Excellent stuff! How cool would it be to get a vaccine from you!”
Another commented: “imagine rocking up and a bake off winner giving you your vaccination! i’d be made up! i’ll probably get Karen from the co-op (sic)”
Former ‘GBBO’ star Ali Imdad also commented on the post bribing David to “sort him out” with a vaccine for some tasty treats.
He tweeted: “Bro, sort me out. I’ll swindle a cupcake and a Swiss roll your way”.
David beat Steph Blackwell and Alice Fevronia for the winner’s crown in the 10th series of the Channel 4 competition with his healthier bakes.
He was believed to be the underdog of the three finalists, as he was the only one of the trio to have never been crowned Star Baker during the series. The amateur baker achieved victory by impressing the judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith with his picnic-themed showstopper, claiming that he’d “saved the best till last”.
In the final, the bakers were tasked with making the ultimate chocolate cake for the signature challenge, before moving on to a twice baked stilton soufflé for the challenging technical.
But in the end, the decision as to who walked away with the ‘Bake Off’ crown came down to the showstopper, in which they had to create an illusion picnic basket using only cake, sweet bread, and biscuit.
