OHMYGOSSIP — Cherylee Houston won’t be back on ‘Coronation Street’ “for a little while”.
The 46-year-old actress – who was diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome when she was 23 – has been shielding due to the rare connective tissue disorder, which makes her vulnerable to the effects of coronavirus.
It means her character Izzy Armstrong – who first appeared in 2010 – hasn’t been seen on the cobbles since last spring.
Asked when she’ll be back on ‘Corrie’, she tweeted: “A little while yet Im afraid… (sic)”
Many of the cast and crew members returned to set in June after the first national lockdown, which was introduced in March 2020.
However, some stars more vulnerable to coronavirus are still being kept off air.
Cherylee reassured concerned viewers that they haven’t seen the last of Izzy on the ITV soap.
Asked if she’d be returning, she replied: “Oh yes”.
Beverley Callard – who has played Liz McDonald since 1989 – has confirmed she won’t be back to film an exit storyline after being written out last year while she was recovering from a hip operation.
She recently said: “I was actually toying with the idea of going back to film an exit, but I felt that they wouldn’t be able to do Liz justice under the current COVID restrictions. I want to preserve her.
“Considering the current climate for actors, it’s unsurprising that everyone told me to go back and take the money, but that’s just not me. I have to earn my pay.
“The pandemic has given me time to assess how I feel about everything and I’m sure that my time on the cobbles is up.”
