OHMYGOSSIP — ‘King Gary’ is returning for a Christmas special.
The BBC sitcom – which is co-written by Tom Davis and James DeFront, with the latter starring as Gary King in the hit show – debuted earlier this year with a six-episode run, and the broadcaster has confirmed plans for a festive one-off.
Actor Tom and director James said in a joint statement: “We are honoured to have been asked to bring the Kings to BBC One this festive season, and after what has been a tough year hopefully we can bring a little joy and laughter with this special episode.”
The special will see the likes of Romesh Ranganathan, Laura Checkley, Simon Day, Camille Coduri and Riley Burgin return as the titular character looks to make the annual Butterchurn Crescent Christmas Lights Display bigger and brighter than ever.
The synopsis adds: “However, his neighbours aren’t quite so keen to go all out as they tighten their belts, keep the ‘leccy bills lean and turn to Secret Santa.
“Could a last-minute million-pound contract help Gary fund the Crescent’s illuminations and save Christmas?!”
Elsewhere on BBC this Christmas, Lenny Henry narrates new animation ‘Zog and the Flying Doctors’, while Jodie Whittaker returns to the TARDIS in ‘Doctor Who’ special ‘The Revolution of the Daleks’ and Dawn French reprises her role in a one-off comeback for ‘The Vicar of Dibley’.
‘Worzel Gummidge: Saucy Nancy’ sees Mackenzie Cook as the walking, talking scarecrow for a one hour film, with ‘Call the Midwife’, ‘The Serpent’ and ‘Black Narcissus’ also coming to the Beeb over Christmas and New Year.
There are also plans for two new festive celebrity specials of ‘The Great British Sewing Bee’, plus ‘Strictly: The Christmas Countdown’, ‘Not Going Out’ and much more.
Over on BBC Two, the broadcaster has announced the likes of ‘A Very Country Christmas’, ‘Matthew Bourne’s Oliver’, ‘The Gruffalo and Me: The Magical World of Julia Donaldson’ and ‘Victoria Wood: The Secret List’.
