OHMYGOSSIP — Shirley Ballas wants to play a ‘Coronation Street’ character who runs a dance class which leads to several cobbles couples splitting up – as part of a ‘Corrie’ curse.
The ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ head judge revealed last month she had written to the ITV soap’s producers and they were “having a chat” with her about a role on the show, and the 60-year-old star has now thought more about where she might fit in in Weatherfield, and has devised an idea for a ‘Strictly’-style curse.
Speaking on ‘That Gaby Roslin Podcast’, she said: “I’d like to be the dance teacher that’s very strict on the end of the street, where everyone sends their children and the adults. I want them to send Tracy.
“I see this whole storyline about this real strict dance teacher.
“Then people come in and this one falls in love with that one doing the cha-cha-cha, and that one goes off with this one because his wife didn’t want to dance, so he dances with the woman down the road and then they form a relationship. And all those things that go on in my industry.
“I’d like to bring that to a part on ‘Coronation Street’, and I’d like to play that teacher.
“It is a little bit like what goes on every day in my industry, or the ‘Strictly’ curse or what people talk about.
“It could be the curse of the Square [Street].”
In October, Shirley admitted she wanted to teach Ken Barlow (Bill Roache) the cha-cha-cha and do “a bit of rumba” with Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson).
She told The Sun newspaper: “I want a role on ‘Coronation Street’ – to be the dance teacher on The Street.
“I’ve written to the producers and they’re having a chat. I would go there and play holy havoc. I’d bring the dance curse.
“When the theme music comes on, the hairs on my arms stand on end. It’s been a favourite since I was a child. I’d love to teach Ken Barlow cha-cha-cha, and a bit of rumba with Steve McDonald.”
