OHMYGOSSIP — Kevin Clifton blames the absence of an audience for Jacqui Smith’s exit on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The former ‘Strictly’ pro – who left the series earlier this year – believes that the former Home Secretary and her dance partner, Anton du Beke, would not have been the first to leave the show if there had been a studio audience to cheer them on.
He explained: “There is an empty studio pretty much with the celebs and their dancers and a few dotted around on the other side, it does not have that same effect in the studio.
“I think there have been numbers that I have seen where people react in the studio and they have just gone off at the end of the number and Tess [Daly] is trying to talk and they are still clapping and stamping their feet and there is a second wave of applause.
“The overall feel of the number then, whatever the judges say, at that point is that we all loved it. I do think people sat at home, people will feel that noise that is happening in the studio. If that had happened for Jacqui and Anton they might have become everyone’s favourite as it was so out there.”
The series is taking place without an audience due to the coronavirus pandemic.
And although the celebrities have been allowed to have guests, the BBC have now stopped people from mixing due to the second lockdown.
However, ‘Strictly’ star Janette Manrara is refusing to let the situation dampen her enthusiasm for the show.
She said: “A lot of the celebrities have been able to bring family and friends in their bubbles to watch the show so that might not be happening but that’s OK because I scream for everyone anyway.”
