Brian McFadden: 'I saved Westlife'

OHMYGOSSIP — Brian McFadden “saved” Westlife by quitting in 2004.
The 36-year-old singer insists that the boyband – which was signed by Simon Cowell – would not have stayed together for much longer if he hadn’t left when he did as the other members – Shane Filan, Nicky Byrne, Kian Egan and Markus Feehily – “hated it”.
He told the Irish Sun: “If we had been given a break, it might have been different but when I look back now everything happens for a reason.
“None of the other guys were enjoying it at that stage. They hated it. But when I left, they all got scared with this feeling, how long is it going to last?”
“They ended up appreciating what they had again and they started to love it again. They got eight years of something they were taking for granted.”
Westlife lasted for eight more years after Brian quit, eventually disbanding in 2012.
Meanwhile, Brian recently revealed he wants to be an actor.
He said: “Going into acting is something I’ve thought about. Keith Duffy from Boyzone loves acting and tells me I’d love it, so if the right opportunity came long, maybe I’d give it a go.
“But then I think about how much I hated making music videos. Doing the same shot three times used to freak me out, and that only lasted for 14 hours. Imagine being there for months?!”

Charli XCX wants Kylie Jenner to launch music career

OHMYGOSSIP — Charli XCX wants Kylie Jenner to become a pop star next year.
The 24-year-old singer has always been a fan of the brunette beauty – who has a huge cosmetics company that ships around the world – and thinks it would be “epic” if she used her talents to launch a career in the music world in 2017.
Taking to her Twitter account, Charli said: “I hope kylie jenner becomes a popstar in 2017 (sic),” followed by a series of heart emojis.
She added: “like IMAGINE how good the debut kylie jenner album would be?! so many hits/feats/skits plus an epic deluxe edition w incredible packaging (sic).”
And the ‘Boom Clap’ will be on hand to help the 19-year-old reality TV star – the half-sister of Kim Kardashian West – put together her album should she need it.
She said: “My one hope for 2017 is that Kylie Jenner becomes a pop star. Kylie and Paris Hilton would be my top people to write music for.”
And it looks as though the ‘After The Afterparty’ singer could get her wish as it’s believed Kylie is planning to launch a music career over the next few months.
A source told Britain’s Grazia magazine: “She’s enjoyed keeping people guessing, especially because the Kardashian name usually comes before anything else but the plan was always to come clean. Music’s something none of the other sisters have done, so she can really take ownership of it.”

Eddie Vedder donates $10,000 to needy family

OHMYGOSSIP — Eddie Vedder has donated $10,000 to a family in need for Christmas.
The Pearl Jam vocalist was made aware of the family after a post on advertising website Craiglist.com went viral. The post saw 35-year-old hair stylist Tyshika Britten beg for help as she struggled to provide a decent Christmas for her family of six.
In her original post on the site, Tyshika said: “I am a mother of six, 5 boys and 1 baby girl. I’m so hurt. I’m trying my best. I pray everyday and now I’m begging for help. I know it’s not about the gifts, but they are kids! I’m such a failure right now … please help me.”
Tyshika also detailed how her family were due to be evicted from their home, and that she couldn’t afford a Christmas tree or any presents.
Upon seeing the advert himself, the 52-year-old singer said he was “so moved” by her story that he felt compelled to donate, and sent Tyshika the whopping cheque to fund her family’s Christmas.
Speaking to the Washington Post newspaper, the ‘Hard Sun’ singer said: “I was just so moved by the story and what this mother did for her children. I thought those kids must be so proud of their mother for reaching out. That takes a lot of courage.”
And Eddie continued by saying her story reminded him of his own childhood.
He added: “There were years there were toys from Santa, but they were used and they came from garage sales and they didn’t always work.”

George Michael tribute concert planned

OHMYGOSSIP — A star-studded tribute concert is being planned in memory of George Michael.
Following the 53-year-old singer’s sudden death from heart failure over Christmas, Childline founder Dame Esther Rantzen has revealed plans to hold a concert to acknowledge his donations over the years and celebrate Childline’s 30th anniversary.
She told the Daily Mirror: “George helped us to reach out to hundreds of thousands of children through his generosity.
“I met him a couple of times, he approached us, rather than us going cap in hand to him, but it was an intensely personal gift.
“He didn’t want it to be known or to be part of his image.
“I think it would be wonderful to celebrate him with a tribute concert next year.
“We were able to counsel 300,000 children who needed help last year, through emails, online and phone calls, and George made a palpable difference.”
And Esther previously revealed plans for the concert were in place before George’s death.
She said: “For years now he has been the most extraordinarily generous philanthropist, giving money to Childline, but he was determined not to make his generosity public so no-one outside the charity knew how much he gave to the nation’s most vulnerable children.
“Over the years he gave us millions and we were planning next year, as part of our 30th anniversary celebrations to create, we hoped, a big concert in tribute to him – to his artistry, to his wonderful musicality but also to thank him for the 100s of 1,000s of children he helped through supporting Childline.”

Sam Smith's tribute to George Michael

OHMYGOSSIP — Sam Smith broke his Twitter hiatus to pay tribute to George Michael.
The 24-year-old singer had not tweeted since June, until he took to the social media platform to share his grief over the death of George on Christmas Day (25.12.16).
He wrote: “Words can’t express how much you and your music meant and means to me. Please play his music as loud as you can today..& celebrate one of the most magical, talented, bravest & important figures in music & life as I know it. Your music & message will live on
“I would not be the artist I am if it wasn’t for you. @GeorgeMichael (sic).”
Meanwhile, streaming of George Michael’s music has increased by 3000 per cent following his tragic death.
The ‘Careless Whisper’ hitmaker was just 53-years-old when he passed away at his home in Goring-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, South East England and fans have rushed to sites such as Spotify to remember the late singer by streaming his music.
A Spotify official has told TMZ that streams have increased by 3158 per cent on this time last week and the top five tracks being played are ‘Last Christmas’, ‘Careless Whisper’, ‘Faith’, ‘Freedom! 90’ and ‘Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go’.
Before his death, George was said to be working on a new album, which he was hoping to release in 2017.
He had reportedly already started penning some of the tracks for the LP, which would have been a follow-up to his 2014 release ‘Symphonica’.
Naughty Boy – who has worked with music greats including Beyonce and Sam Smith – was set to produce the album.
He shared earlier this month: “He’s got an album coming out next year, and he’s going to be doing something for my album as well. I can’t wait. I don’t know what to expect. And, to be honest, he’s more mysterious than anyone else so I’m actually excited.”

Francis Rossi breaks silence on Rick Parfitt's death

OHMYGOSSIP — Francis Rossi has hailed his late band mate Rick Parfitt as the “archetypal rock star”.
The 67-year-old singer has penned an emotional tribute to the Status Quo guitarist, who sadly passed away in hospital in Spain on Christmas Eve (24.12.16) as a result of severe infection following complications from a shoulder injury, at the age of 68.
The ‘Whatever You Want’ hitmaker has been finding it hard to come to terms with the loss of his dear friend and musical sidekick – who he has worked alongside since 1967 – but broke his silence by releasing a statement honouring the career and life of the music legend on Monday (26.12.16).
He said: “I was not ready for this.
“Rick Parfitt had been a part of my story for 50 years. Without doubt the longest relationship of my life: this was also the most satisfying, frustrating, creative and fluid. From those early days, we worked together to create the Quo sound, look and hits. We spent years on the road, on the stage and in the studio, rarely far from each other, honing what we did.
“We were a team, a double act, a partnership and yet also two very different people, handling the pressures of growing older, constant touring, dealing with success and keeping the creative flame burning in different ways. He developed his own sound, his own style, casually inspiring a generation of players.”
And with all of the rock stars lost in 2016, including David Bowie, Prince and most recently George Michael, Rossi says Parfitt still “stands out” as one of the greats.
He also goes on to talk about how losing him was still a great “shock” despite his wild past, which saw him experiment heavily with drugs and alcohol.
He added: “Rick was the archetypal rock star, one of the originals, he never lost his joy, his mischievous edge and his penchant for living life at high speed, high volume, high risk. His life was never boring, he was louder and faster and more carefree than the rest of us.
“There were any number of incidents along the way, times when he strayed into areas of true danger and yet still losing him now is still a shock. Even in a year that has claimed so many of our best, including now George Michael, Rick Parfitt stands out. I was not ready for this.”
Earlier this year, Rick – who suffered his third heart attack and spent several days in a coma after a gig in Turkey in June – admitted he was terrified of dropping dead on stage.
He said: “I’m just aware of the nervousness I get before I go on stage. It does pump your heart slightly when you start to pace up and down the room, and you’re about to go in front of thousands of people. Obviously it’s going to have some effect on you.
“I do not want to tax myself in any way. I’ve been told medically not to. So whether it’s a full gig or a cameo I’d still get fairly nervous and I do not want to get out on stage and drop dead in front of the fans. I do not want to do that.”
Rick said his latest heart attack has been a “reality check” and he subsequently quit drinking and smoking.

Kasabian tease new music

OHMYGOSSIP — Kasabian have teased new music with a snippet of a track called ‘Pressie’.
The rock band – comprised of Tom Meighan, Sergio Pizzorno, Chris Edwards, and Ian Matthews – took to their social media accounts on Christmas Day (25.12.16) to share a short audio clip of a brand new song, seemingly titled ‘Pressie’.
Posting a link to their SoundCloud.com account on Twitter, the ‘Fire’ hitmakers wrote: #merrychristmas from Kasabian … here’s your #Pressie: (sic)”
Although the link took fans to an audio clip entitled ‘Pressie’, it is unknown as of yet whether that is the actual track name, or if it just represented the shortened word for present.
The new sample of music comes as the ‘Eez-Eh’ rockers have recently been working on the follow up to their 2014 hit album ’48:13′.
When asked last month about the band’s activity, a spokesperson simply said: “The band are currently finishing their new album.”
However, fans expecting the same electronic sound that was present on ’48:13′ will likely be disappointed with any new material the ‘Eez-Eh’ musicians have to offer, as they previously said they were planning on returning to their roots and write a guitar album.
Frontman Tom said: “I said to Serge, ‘Let’s go back to our roots, let’s go back to guitars.’ He said, ‘That’s what I’ve done.’ He played me the demos and I was like, ‘F***ing hell! That’s great that is.’ It’s nothing like ‘48.13’, there’s not f***ing interludes or any of that s**t.”
Meanwhile, fans in Italy will likely be amongst the first to hear ‘Pressie’ in full, after the band announced three dates in the country in July.
The ‘Club Foot’ musicians will play a headline show in the city of Taormina on July 19, before heading off to perform at festivals in the capital Rome, on July 21, and in Lucca on July 23.

Suki Waterhouse's debut single flops

OHMYGOSSIP — Suki Waterhouse’s debut single has flopped.
The 24-year-old model and actress’ attempts to become a triple threat by launching a pop career has gotten off to a bad start, with her first single ‘Brutally’ selling just 296 copies since its release eight weeks ago.
And the song failed to break into the UK Top 200 chart.
A source told The Sun: “Suki never expected to be near the Top 10 but she’s bound to be disappointed with the figures.
“She’s very passionate about music and obviously can put more of her personality into her lyrics than she can with modelling.
“But Suki clearly has a lot of work to do if she wants to build up a following with the help of her tunes.”
Suki has previously spoken of how important music is to her as it allows her to connect with people.
She said: “It’s a really important outlet for me as it’s bare. It’s not for other people, with other people’s impressions put on you or wearing other people’s clothes.
“There is real imagination for me in music. One song will make someone feel something about a man and it will make someone else think about their dead dog. It’s personal.”
However, Suki’s acting career is going from strength to strength and she recently joined Odessa Young, Hari Nef and Abra in the thriller ‘Assassination Nation’, about four teenagers whose personal information is leaked by a mystery hacker.
Foxtail Entertainment co-founders and partners Matthew Malek and Anita Gou said: “Odessa, Hari, Abra and Suki are great, rising talents who all come from different backgrounds and collectively make up a cast that is young, diverse and powerful – all things we want this film to reflect. What attracted both of us to the project was its bold depiction of teenagers, not as vapid or distracted but rather engaged and determined to navigate the complexities of this new world. It tackles issues of shaming, mob mentality, vigilantism, and righteousness.”
Sam Levinson has written the screenplay and will also direct the movie while producers include Kevin Turen and David Goyer.
The movie is set to begin filming in Louisiana in 2017.

Olly Murs to pen a Christmas album?

OHMYGOSSIP — Olly Murs is open to the idea of writing a Christmas album in 2017.
The 32-year-old pop star is currently looking forward to the big day and has admitted he may even release a festive-themed record in the not-too-distant future.
He said: “I think I have a Christmas album in me, I would never rule it out. My producers have always suggested it.
“It’s difficult to get it right but I’m open to the idea. Next Christmas, we’ll see.”
In early 2017, meanwhile, Olly will turn his attention to awards season and has admitted he would love for his latest album, ’24 Hrs’, to receive some sort of recognition.
The singer-songwriter told the Daily Star newspaper: “I’m performing at the BRIT Awards launch in January.
“I’m hoping to be nominated and pick an award up. I’d really like one.
“The fact that I’m performing at the launch means I’m doing something right. Then my tour will be special.
“There’s a party at my parent’s house, I’m leaving it late, so I might just throw a concert there.”
Olly’s album features some of his most personal work to date, but the former ‘X Factor’ contestant has insisted he remains committed to writing “feel-good pop records”.
He said: “People don’t do pop records any more – tracks like ‘Unpredictable’ sound like a proper pop record. I’m into feel-good pop records.”

Big Sean's new record was inspired by Berry Gordy

OHMYGOSSIP — Big Sean’s new album was inspired by Berry Gordy.
The 28-year-old rapper has revealed that listening to the Motown founder at a music event proved to be the inspiration for his new record, ‘I Decided’.
He explained: “He was talking about Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder and the Temptations and how one of the things they did was inspire people.
“They inspired people to have a good time, to do better – to be a better version of themselves. That really stuck with me. That’s what I want to do, too.”
The rap star – whose real name is Sean Anderson – also explained that his soon-to-be-released album centres on the idea of rebirth.
He told Entertainment Weekly: “Sometimes I feel like I was an old man and didn’t succeed in life and asked for a second chance, and this is my second chance.
“People who can be inspired by it, that’s who I’m doing it for.”
Sean conceded that his new album may come as a surprise for some of his fans.
He said: “That’s not something that people expect from a Big Sean project. I’m happy we are delivering something unexpected. I’m excited to push the culture and push my artistry to the limit.”
However, he was also keen to stress that the new album will feature some feel-good tunes.
Sean said: “You don’t want to overdo it. I’m not trying to sit here and preach to people.
“You can get [a message] across with a song like ‘Bounce Back.’ We’ve all bounced back from something before, so that fits my story perfect, but you never would have known that from hearing it by itself.”

Clean Bandit were 'obsessed' with music videos

OHMYGOSSIP — Clean Bandit were “obsessed” with making music videos before they topped the charts.
The ‘Rockabye’ hitmakers have always strived to make spectacular videos and cellist Grace Chatto admits they put off recording 10 songs – before their debut LP ‘New Eyes’ was released in 2014 – because they were more interested in creating visuals.
In an interview with The Telegraph, the 31-year-old musician, who met her band mate Jack Patterson at University, said: “We knew we wanted our videos on MTV so we were striving towards that for a good two years after graduating and a few years before that.”
The pair – who previously dated – would hide out in Jack’s self-made studio and work on videos together for hours on end rather than putting anything on tape.
She added: “Jack built a bed out of scaffolding and there was studio equipment underneath.
“We’d be in there all day making music and then we’d fall asleep and then we’d wake up and do the same thing. That went on for three years.
“We had 10 finished songs that were going down well live, but we never record them because we were so obsessed with making videos.”
Meanwhile, Jack, 27 – who is also joined by his brother Luke in the group – says having a middle-class upbringing, and attending university at Cambridge, didn’t affect their popularity as a band.
He explained: “I don’t know if there have been opportunities that we’ve missed because people thought we were posh. I doubt it. If someone’s got a problem with you being posh they’re not going to be able to hold you back with anything.”

Cliff Richard stopped making albums because of lack of airplay

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Cliff Richard stopped releasing new material because he claims musicians from his era don’t get airplay.
The 76-year-old music legend feels artists like Sir Elton John and himself are unlikely to top the charts if they put out new music, despite his covers album, ‘Just . . .  Fabulous Rock ‘n’ Roll’, hitting number four in the official UK charts.
According to The Sun newspaper, he said: “Now, because our new material is never played enough, people like Sir Elton John, Phil Collins, myself and Tina Turner, we’ve, in a way, stopped making albums full of new songs.”
And, although the ‘Devil Woman’ hitmaker doesn’t feel relevant that doesn’t mean he won’t perform at the world-renowned Glastonbury Festival held at Worthy Farm in Somerset, South West England in June.
However, he says he would require a large sum of money to agree to play the famous Pyramid Stage.
He previously said: “They have never asked me – if they asked I’d seriously think about it. Maybe there will be a spot. If you are the owners of Glastonbury Festival, please feel free to ask but I may not be available and what’s more, I’m not cheap!”
Speaking about the potential gig, Sir Cliff, who is set to perform a series of outdoor concerts next year, said: “They are like festival shows; open air concerts.
“We’re doing two in Denmark, one in Ireland and nine in Britain.
“If they invited me to Glastonbury I would seriously think about doing it. Then I’d either plan a tour to start there or end there. It would be great.”
However, the ‘Summer Holiday’ actor has revealed he wouldn’t want to camp because he doesn’t like to get dirty and covered in mud.
He explained: “Camping’s not for me. I’m too old for that – I wouldn’t want to get dirty.”
But the veteran musician has admitted he has “admiration” for all of the concert-goers who embrace the weather conditions and the lack of showers and washing facilities to watch the acts regardless of who is performing.

Clean Bandit claim Christmas number one

OHMYGOSSIP — Clean Bandit have claimed this year’s Christmas number one.
The group – which includes Grace Chatto, Jack Patterson and Luke Patterson – secured the chart-topping position with their smash hit track ‘Rockabye’, which has held the top spot for seven weeks.
They said: “To have been Number 1 for seven weeks is something amazing in its own right that we are all incredibly proud of, but to now be Christmas Number 1 is mind-blowing. It’s something we never imagined would happen with ‘Rockabye’ when we were writing and recording it. Thanks to everyone who has made this happen! We hope you all have a Merry Christmas and New Year!”
Whilst guitarist and keyboard player Jack Patterson quipped: “It’s weird actually, my mum has got this theory about the song, about “Rockabye, baby” [in the song’s lyrics] being about Jesus, and that Jesus is the baby.
“She’s talking about this woman who’s looking after the child on her own and saying it’s a bit like Mary – she had the Immaculate Conception – and Joseph is kind of there but not.”
Clean Bandit beat Rag ‘n’ Bone Man to the crown after his track ‘Human’ sold 10,000 less copies. Elsewhere, Louis Tomlinson and Steve Aoki’s ‘Just Hold On’ came in at third place and Little Mix’s new single ‘Touch’ managed fourth place.
Meanwhile, Michael Ball and Alfie Boe’s LP ‘Together’ was named the UK’s Christmas Number 1 album.
They told OfficialCharts.com: “It’s a dream come true. There’s only one thing better than having a Number 1 album and that’s having a Christmas Number 1 album. A huge thanks to everyone who bought the album. Our hearts go out to you all for Christmas. We hope we entertain you with the album for Christmas and lots of love to everyone.”

Goldfrapp tease comeback album

OHMYGOSSIP —
Goldfrapp have teased a comeback.
The ‘Ooh La La’ hitmakers – comprised of Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory – have set up a new Instagram account with what looks like the album cover of their seventh studio album, which will be their first release in three years.
Alongside the picture of two identical blonde girls, naked showing plenty of side boob with black paint on their arms, they wrote: “#goldfrapp7. (sic)”
The Grammy Award-winning electronic duo’s last record was 2013’s ‘Tale Of Us’.
Speaking at the time, frontwoman Alison Goldfrapp, 50, said she prefers the music they make which has a more “simple” and “acoustic” sound, which could mean that’s what fans can expect from their next outing.
She previously said: “We’ve always had these two worlds that exist alongside each other — the sort of more pastoral, orchestral sound and then this much harder, synthetic sound. I love both, but I’d say I think this more acoustic, simple sound is where my heart is at. All the artists that I really love and listen to all the time and always go back to are of that ilk. That’s what I feel really passionate about.”
And she also teased that this sound is something they want to delve into more.
She added: “You know, I love singing ‘Strict Machine’. I never get bored of that song. I love it and still find it really exciting. But I love this, and I feel somehow that I can explore this world more. And I feel very comfortable with that.”

Trent Reznor slams 'desperate' pop music

OHMYGOSSIP — Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor says most modern pop music is “a desperate plea for commercial airplay”.
The 51-year-old rocker hasn’t been impressed by both “boring” rock music and the endless thread of “tweed pop songs” over the last few years, a sentiment he shares with his band mate Atticus Ross.
The ‘Closer’ hitmaker also admits that he hasn’t heard many records that have “blown him away” as they are “tame” and “generic”.
Speaking to Zane Lowe on his Apple Beats 1 radio show, he said: “Something that we have always felt strongly about is the role of what we call rock has been one that should feel untethered and filled with expression and uncompromised and at times challenging.
“In general, it seems from my perspective, and I feel Atticus feels the same way, that most entertainment, particularly music is pretty boring. Certainly, rock is boring.
“I can’t think of anything that has happened in the rock spectrum that has felt, and I am sure there are that I am just not thinking of right now, but in general it’s not saying much.
“It’s not including good stuff out there, but in general I am not blown away by five records a month that are speaking to me. Everything feels a bit tame and a lot like something else that has happened. Plight. I think some of the tastemaker elements and hipster arena has leaned towards the praising of gentle familiar R&B, tweed pop stuff. A lot of what is blessed is the cool thing. It feels pretty generic and also feels, a lot of it, like a desperate plea for commercial airplay and success.”
The electronic metal band – also comprised of Robin Finck, Alessandro Cortini, and Ilan Rubin – recently released new single ‘Burning Bright (Field on Fire)’, which features on the new EP, ‘Not the Actual Events’.
The mini-album, which is available to stream now, features songs with Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl and Dave Navarro.
The ‘Not the Actual Events’ EP tracklist is as follows:
01. ‘Branches/Bones
02. ‘Dear World’
03. ‘She’s Gone Away’ (feat. Mariqueen Maandig)
04. ‘The Idea of You’ (feat. Dave Grohl)
05. ‘Burning Bright (Field on Fire)’ (feat. Dave Navarro)

Louisa Johnson gets Justin Bieber's screaming fans frustration

OHMYGOSSIP — Louisa Johnson understands why Justin Bieber hates screaming fans.
The 18-year-old pop beauty – who shot to fame after winning ‘The X Factor’ in 2015 – can see how frustrating it must be for the ‘Let Me Love You’ hitmaker, who just wants gig-goers to hear his music while he’s performing live, rather than listen to thousands of fan girls screeching at the top of their lungs.
However, the ‘Tears’ hitmaker also thinks the 22-year-old singer needs to remember that without his fanbase he wouldn’t be playing to sold-out arenas.
She said: “I can empathise with him to a point.
“He did say that he’s travelled a long way to get to his gigs so they should listen, but I’m pretty sure the fans have done the same.I do get the screaming thing but they’re his fans, they put him there.”
Despite his behaviour towards his loyal Beliebers, Louisa would love to duet with the hunky pop star.
She told the Daily Star newspaper: “Why not, I think he’s wicked I love his songs, he’s done really well for himself.”
The ‘What Do You Mean’ singer recently admitted it can be difficult to talk to his supporters when they’re “screaming and super overwhelming” but says they are “a little bit more sane” now they are older.
He said: “[My fans] start understanding how to act [as they get older]. They actually want to act a little bit more sane so that maybe they get my attention.
“Because at this point, if you’re screaming and super overwhelming, it’s hard for me to connect with you.”
Justin has come under fire as of late for storming off stage after fans refused to let him speak in between songs during his ‘Purpose World Tour’.
He shared: “There’s going to be times where I say the wrong thing, because I’m human. But I don’t pretend to be perfect and I hope to God that, you know, I don’t say the right thing all the time because if that was the case then I’d be a robot, and I’m just, I’m not a robot.
“There’s times when I get upset … times when I get angry, there’s times when I’m going to be frustrated. But I’m always going to be myself on this stage.”
