Bradley Walsh has outsold Zayn Malik to become 2016’s biggest-selling debut artist

OHMYGOSSIP — Bradley Walsh’s debut LP outsells Zayn Malik. The ‘Chase’ host shocked the world when he announced his foray into the music business with his debut album ‘Chasing Dreams’, which was released just two months ago in November, but he has proved people wrong as the actor and comedian’s record sold over 100,000 copies making it gold certified.

The 56-year-old star beat the former One Direction singer’s debut release, ‘Mind of Mine’, which sold a dismal 65, 208 copies, British singer/songwriter Tom Odell’s album, ‘Wrong Crowd’, Scottish rockers Biffy Clyro and rising rock band Blossoms.

And he shows no signs of hanging up his microphone anytime soon as he is desperate to make it stateside by “conquering the overseas” market. Thanking his record label Sony, Bradley said: “Well, I never expected that! A gold album, wow! It just goes to show that great songs live forever! I am absolutely thrilled to bits and would like to thank Sony for having faith and the brilliant Stevie Sidwell for arranging such wonderful tunes and, of course, the fans and lovers of proper music everywhere. Having outsold the likes of Zayn Malik , Tom Odell etc I am now concentrating on conquering overseas! We start next week with the Isle of Wight! X”

Talking about what inspired his musical direction, Bradley previously said: “I grew up listening to legends such as Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr and Tony Bennett. “From those early days I’ve always been a huge fan of this style of music and now to have the opportunity to record some of the greatest songs and arrangements ever written, alongside a 54-piece orchestra and band is absolutely thrilling.”

Ed Sheeran teases song lyrics

OHMYGOSSIP — Ed Sheeran has been teasing lyrics from his new album on social media.
The ‘Lego House’ hitmaker took to Instagram earlier on Wednesday (04.01.17) to share another cryptic short video clip, which had the words ‪”the club isn’t the best place to find a lover”.
It comes after Ed shared another post on the site, alluding to some possible other lyrics, which read, “When I was six years old I broke my leg.”
Ed fuelled speculation his new album will follow the pattern of those before it and will be titled ‘÷’ after he posted an image of the divide symbol on his Instagram account.
Captioning it, he added: “6th January 5am GMT midnight ET x (sic)”
The 25-year-old singer/songwriter announced he was to release new music in a short clip online.
In the video, Ed is holding up a piece of paper, which reads “New Music Coming Friday!! (sic)”
Meanwhile, it was previously claimed that Ed would be headlining this year’s Glastonbury Festival, delighting the event’s organisers Michael and Emily Eavis.
A source previously shared: “Michael is delighted to get Ed signed up. It’s going to be a huge moment for the festival having him up there marking his comeback in front of a giant crowd. Ed’s always said headlining Glastonbury has been a big ambition of his. Topping his three sold-out Wembley Stadium shows last year will be tough, but this is as big as it gets.
“Ed became one of the world’s most in-demand musicians with his last album and the Grammys is the perfect place to make his return. Millions will be tuning in for his performance and he is planning to pull out all of the stops to really wow everyone.”

Jason Derulo teams up with Nicki Minaj for new single

OHMYGOSSIP — Jason Derulo has teamed up with Nicki Minaj and Ty Dolla $ign for his next single.
The 27-year-old singer – whose last record was 2015’s ‘Everything is 4’ – is gearing up to release fifth album this year and has teased his next track called ‘Swa Lah’, which features the ‘Anaconda’ rapper and rising hip-hop star.
Talking about the new tune on ABC’s ‘Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve’ show, he said: “My favourite thing I did all year was … I have to say it’s the brand new single I’m about to put out.
It’s called ‘Swa Lah’. It’s features Nicki Minaj and Ty Dolla $ign.”
‘Swa Lah’ is the first track from his forthcoming record, which has been written by rapper Jacob Kasher and producer LunchMoney Lewis, and the ‘Talk Dirty’ hitmaker says it’s a dance anthem, which everyone could do with now that the festive period is over.
He said: “I feel it’s a record we need. It’s one of those ones that’s going to get us up and dancing.”
Derulo has promised fans a number of exciting collaborations to come on his record, which will be released later this year.
He recently said “I’ve been recording at my house this time. And it’s just been a much more comfortable experience. And I’m excited to share with you all my ups, my downs, my highs and my lows. Also, got to work with a lot of amazing artists. 2017 is ours, Derulo Family.
“I’m looking forward to a fresh start [in 2017]. So much negativity in the world in 2016. We can start fresh putting love first. We can’t let our nation be run by racism, greed and abhorrence.”
It is likely that one of the collaborators on Jason’s new album could be Scottish DJ Calvin Harris as he previously revealed the pair were keen to work on music together once they can find some time in their busy schedules.
Jason said: “We’ve been in contact and Calvin and I are interested in working together for sure.
“But it’s just finding the right time and right song, we both have busy schedules, but I hope so.”
The pair were introduced by their mutual friend, DJ Hardwell, who has previously worked with both artists on separate occasions.
Jason said: “Hardwell and I did ‘Follow Me’ and I love the whole EDM vibe.”

Zara Larsson: I thought I would be way bigger by now

OHMYGOSSIP — Zara Larsson thought she would be a “way bigger” star than she is now.
The 19-year-old Swedish pop beauty has several hit singles under her belt including chart-topper ‘I Would Like’, but has admitted she envisaged having more success at this stage in her career, and feels she should be playing arenas.
She told the latest issue of Nylon magazine: “When people ask me, ‘What would you do If I told you five years ago you would be here?’ My answer is, ‘Honestly, I thought I would be way bigger.’ I thought I would be selling out arenas by now.”
The ‘Lush Life’ hitmaker had her confidence knocked after she won Sweden’s version of ‘America’s Got Talent’ when she was just 10 years old, because she expected to land a recording contract off the back of the talent show, but nothing happened and she thought she’d never make it as a pop star.
She admitted: “I thought people were going to throw contracts at me and ask me to do a world tour, and then I just didn’t get anything. I thought it was over, that was it for me. I thought I wasn’t going to be a singer.”
The rising star – who is known for her MNEK collaboration ‘Never Forget You’ – has spent the last three years working her debut studio LP, which will no doubt have her climbing the charts once again, as it features collaborations with Charlie Puth and Ty Dollar $ign.
And the blonde beauty has confessed that she hasn’t written every song on the record, but that is something she is striving to accomplish in the future.
She said: “I’ve been working on this album for three years.
“‘Never Forget You’ was the first song I wrote, and I feel like in the past year, I just involved myself a lot more.
“I’m still not writing everything – It’s more like 60 percent – but I’m not writing I’m choosing the song.
“On the next one I want to be writing on every track.”
Zara’s as-yet-untitled LP is yet to receive a release date, although she recently teased to expect it later this month.

Hilary Devey: Drugs weren't to blame for Rick Parfitt's death

OHMYGOSSIP — Rick Parfitt’s close pal insists drugs were not to blame for the Status Quo guitarist’s death.
‘Dragon’s Den’ star Hilary Devey has blasted claims that the ‘Whatever You Want’ hitmaker – who died in Spain on Christmas Eve (24.12.16) as a result of severe infection following complications from a shoulder injury, at the age of 68 – passed away due to taking class A substances as he has been sober for “many years”.
Taking to Twitter to respond to negative comments about the star, the 59-year-old businesswoman wrote: “So awful to say that. Rick had not taken class A drugs for many years. (sic)”
It comes after Parfitt’s band mate Francis Rossi hailed his band mate as the “archetypal rock star”.
The 67-year-old singer has found it hard to come to terms with the loss of his dear friend and musical sidekick – who he has worked alongside since 1967.
And with all of the rock stars lost in 2016 – including David Bowie, Prince and most recently George Michael – Rossi says Parfitt still “stands out” as one of the greats.
He also says losing him was still a great “shock” despite his wild past, which saw him experiment heavily with drugs and alcohol.
He added: “Rick was the archetypal rock star, one of the originals, he never lost his joy, his mischievous edge and his penchant for living life at high speed, high volume, high risk. His life was never boring, he was louder and faster and more carefree than the rest of us.
“There were any number of incidents along the way, times when he strayed into areas of true danger and yet still losing him now is still a shock. Even in a year that has claimed so many of our best, including now George Michael, Rick Parfitt stands out. I was not ready for this.”
Earlier this year, Parfitt – who suffered his third heart attack and spent several days in a coma after a gig in Turkey in June – admitted he was terrified of dropping dead on stage.
He said: “I’m just aware of the nervousness I get before I go on stage. It does pump your heart slightly when you start to pace up and down the room, and you’re about to go in front of thousands of people. Obviously it’s going to have some effect on you. “I do not want to tax myself in any way. I’ve been told medically not to. So whether it’s a full gig or a cameo I’d still get fairly nervous and I do not want to get out on stage and drop dead in front of the fans. I do not want to do that.”
Parfitt said his latest heart attack had been a “reality check” and he subsequently quit drinking and smoking.

Blossoms want Taylor Swift duet

OHMYGOSSIP — Blossoms want Taylor Swift to appear on their new album.
The ‘Charlemagne’ hitmakers are busy penning the follow-up to their self-titled debut LP and frontman Tom Ogden has written a track that he thinks needs a female vocalist, though he isn’t hopeful of getting his top choice on board.
He told the Daily Star newspaper: “I already have little song ideas where I think it would sound good as a call and response with a female singer.
“But I’m sure Taylor Swift is not up for it. Maybe you could put in a word for us.”
Fans won’t have to wait too long for new material for the band, as they are hoping to get something out this year.
Tom added: “I’m always writing because you have to keep no top of it.”
And the singer also teased they could be appearing at the iconic Glastonbury festival in June.
Asked about the possibility, he said: “Maybe Michael Eavis has been on the phone. Maybe he hasn’t. I don’t know. But fingers crossed – we’d love to do it.”
The group – which also features Charlie Salt, Josh Dewhurst, Joe Donovan and Myles Kellock – are tipped to feature in the BRIT Awards nominations when they are announced later this month, and Tom is looking forward to going to the ceremony if they are given the nod, because it looks like a good night out.
He said: “We would go for a laugh. It would be dead good.
“It seems like a good p**s up, so we are looking forward to it.
“We’ve had a good year, so I’d like to think people would like to make a point of that.”

Ed Sheeran teases album title

OHMYGOSSIP — Ed Sheeran has posted another cryptic post leading fans to believe his new album is titled ‘÷’.
The ‘Thinking Out Loud’ hitmaker posted a short video clip with the divide symbol on his social media accounts along with Friday’s (06.01.17) date on Monday (02.01.17).
Alongside the moving image, he wrote on Twitter: “6th January 5am GMT midnight ET x (sic)”
Naming his third LP ‘÷’ would make sense as his previous record was 2014’s ‘X’ and his debut record was ‘+’.
It comes after Ed took to his social media sites on Sunday (01.01.17) to share the release date with his six million followers.
In the short clip, he held up a piece of paper with the writing: “New Music Coming Friday!! (sic)”, and he also captioned the video: “Hello 2017… (sic)”
The 25-year-old singer/songwriter changed his profile pictures to a shade of blue on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook on December 13, exactly a year after he went on hiatus, leaving fans guessing he is about to announce a new record.
Meanwhile, the flame-haired hunk will reportedly make one of his musical dreams come true when he tops the bill at the world-famous Glastonbury festival in Worthy Farm, Somerset, South West England in June.
And Ed’s signing has delighted the event’s organisers, Michael and Emily Eavis.
A source previously told The Sun newspaper: “Michael is delighted to get Ed signed up.
“It’s going to be a huge moment for the festival having him up there marking his comeback in front of a giant crowd.
“Ed’s always said headlining Glastonbury has been a big ambition of his.
“Topping his three sold-out Wembley Stadium shows last year will be tough, but this is as big as it gets.”
Ed will join previously-confirmed headliners Radiohead at the event, while Foo Fighters – who were forced to pull out of the 2015 festival after frontman Dave Grohl broke his leg – are expected to be the final headliners.
And he is also rumoured to be performing at the Grammys held in Los Angeles in February.
A source added to the publication: “Ed became one of the world’s most in-demand musicians with his last album and the Grammys is the perfect place to make his return.
“Millions will be tuning in for his performance and he is planning to pull out all of the stops to really wow everyone.”

Richard Ashcroft: Rihanna is better than most indie bands

OHMYGOSSIP — Richard Ashcroft would “rather listen” to Rihanna’s music than “critically acclaimed s**t alternative rock”.
The 45-year-old singer/songwriter is dismayed by the current indie scene in the UK compared to what it was like in the 90s when his former band The Verve and their contemporaries such as Oasis, Blur, Radiohead and the Manic Street Preachers topped the charts.
Ashcroft believes the problem is the lack of great songs being released by bands and he enjoys listening to Rihanna’s R&B and pop smashes more than what most guitar groups have to offer.
In an interview with Radio X, he said: “Just because something’s kinda indie and whatever and only a few people know it, it doesn’t give it more authenticity over Rihanna’s ‘Work’. I’d rather listen to the intro of her tune than 90 per cent of the s**t that is supposedly critically acclaimed or alternative rock.”
Ashcroft – whose 2016 solo album ‘These People’ was lauded by critics – insists the success of The Verve’s 1997 single ‘Bittersweet Symphony’ showed him that the public can accept and enjoy something different and make it mainstream.
The ‘Lucky Man’ singer – who is to tour the UK later this year – explained: “It proves to me you can do something unique and the public can still accept it and it can still be huge and popular.”

Bebe Rexha compares release of debut album to 'giving birth'

OHMYGOSSIP — Bebe Rexha says the release of her debut album feels as though she’s “giving birth” to her first child.
The 27-year-old singer/songwriter has seen the unveiling of her LP ‘Ain’t Your Fault’ pushed back but that’s only because she wants the tracks to be perfect.
Although she is excited for her record to come out, Bebe – who features on David Guetta’s ‘Hey Mama’ and G-Eazy’s ‘Me Myself & I’ – admits she is wary of people’s reactions to the songs because the lyrics are “extremely personal”.
Speaking to the Daily Star newspaper, she said: “I have put absolutely everything into my album. I feel like it’s been such a long journey to get here it is like giving birth to my first child and I want to make sure I did everything right. It’s extremely personal, I did not hold back, I talk about everything from ex-boyfriends to friends, and growing up in LA. I’m very insecure and I tend to hold things close to my heart, the album is purely about me and my experiences so that’s a huge thing. I do believe in myself it’s just that everyone will judge me on this and that’s hard, I’ve not played it to many people, I tend not to want to show it off before it’s out. I just really want to make sure it’s the best I can possibly do.”
The ‘No Broken Hearts’ hitmaker is starting her pop career later in life then man of her peers.
However, Bebe thinks the fact she is older and making an attempt to top the charts is a good thing because she knows who she is an artist and is in a better position to cope with the pitfalls of fame.
The blonde beauty – who hosted the MTV European Music Awards in Rotterdam, Netherlands, in November – explained: “It must be so hard trying to figure yourself out in this industry. Justin Bieber has hit rock-bottom with everyone watching him that is just so tough. And it’s terrible to say but he’s been around for years and this is the first time I respect him for his artistry.”

The xx's Romy Madley Croft engaged

OHMYGOSSIP — The xx’s Romy Madley Croft is engaged.
The ‘On Hold’ hitmaker announced the happy news that she is to marry her partner Hannah Marshall on Instagram on Monday evening (02.01.17) sharing a picture of the pair locking lips.
Alongside the cute photo, she wrote: “Last night, a very special person asked me a very beautiful question…. I said yes! @hannahmarshall___ (sic)”
The brunette beauty has never spoken about relationships or her sexuality since now, and said that the group – also comprised of Jamie xx and Oliver Sim – like to keep their private lives out of the spotlight.
Speaking previously, she shared: “We’re very private. We like our personal space.”
Meanwhile, the electronic trio are gearing up to release their third studio LP ‘I See You’ on January 13, and have opened up about the “pressure” they felt recording their second album ‘Coexist’.
Speaking recently bassist Oliver said: “There was so much pressure from ourselves about: What do people like about us? What makes us sound like us? What do we need to hang onto?
“When we’re thinking like that, at our worst, we can end up sounding a bit like a parody of ourselves.”
And 26-year-old Oliver also admits that a large part of the pressure came from his own struggles with alcoholism, and “fighting the idea of being an adult”, but says he’s now been alcohol-free for over a year.
He added: “I was going out a lot with the excuse that I was celebrating – ‘celebrating’ -the past few years.
“Just fighting the idea of becoming an adult. Some friends had started to mellow a bit, and I didn’t want to …
“And with alcohol, like a lot of things, it’s all or nothing for me. So right now it’s just nothing.”

The ‘Fairytale of New York’ hitmaker’s girlfriend, Victoria Mary Clarke, has written a touching message on behalf of her partner on her Twitter account, following the devastating news that on New Year’s Day (01.01.17), Therese MacGowan, 87, was involved in a fatality near Nenagh in Co Tipperary, Ireland where the vehicle she was driving crashed into a wall just a few kilometres from the family’s home in Silvermines.

The 59-year-old former Pogues frontman’s sad loss came just days after his birthday on Christmas Day (25.12.16) and he previously said his mother always pulled out the stops each year.
He said: “My ma always made a big effort to make it a special day for me, but it was always more important to me it was Christmas than it was my birthday.”
Therese was pronounced dead at the scene and her body was taken to Limerick University Hospital where a post mortem is to be carried out.
MacGowan – who fronted The Pogues from 1982 until they split in 2014 – lived nearby in Co Tipperary with his parents briefly after he was born in Kent in South East England and grew up near to where his mother lost her life.
MacGowan had previously spoken about how he owes his musical career to his family.

Bruce Springsteen has a 'good arsenal of material' for next album

OHMYGOSSIP — Bruce Springsteen has a “good arsenal of material” to write songs about now that Donald Trump is to be the next American president.
The 67-year-old musician has been known to include political sentiments in his songwriting, and has said whilst he admits there’s a lot to write about surrounding the vote to elect controversial candidate Donald Trump – who will officially take office later this month – he hasn’t “written about it” yet as he’s still “digesting” the information.
He said: “I haven’t written about it. It takes a while to digest all those thing. I don’t know if I will, ’cause, I don’t go, “Okay, I need a Trump album. That’s what’s got to come next.’
“I can make a record based on what I can write about at a given moment.
“Sometimes it ends up being topical. Sometimes it doesn’t. But we’ve got a good arsenal of material right now, that we can go out and sort of put in service.”
And the ‘Born In The U.S.A’ hitmaker says the emotions he feels most in the wake of the election are “disgust” and “fear”, as he doesn’t believe the President elect has the “pure competence” for the job.
He added: “I’ve felt disgust before, but never the kind of fear that you feel now.
“It’s as simple as the fear of is someone simply competent enough to do this particular job? Forget about where they are ideologically.
“Do they simply have the pure competence to be put in the position of such responsibility?”
Despite his concerns, the ‘Born To Run’ musician still has faith in his home country.
He told Marc Maron on his ‘WTF’ podcast: “America is still America.
“I still believe in its ideals, and I’m going to do my best to play my very, very small part in maintaining those things.”
