BBC’s new documentary about a racing driver who lost both legs

OHMYGOSSIP — A documentary about a teenage racing driver who lost both of his legs has been commissioned by BBC Three.
The programme, titled ‘Billy Whizz’, will follow the incredible story of Formula One driver Billy Monger, 19, who has made a remarkable return after a life changing crash at Donington Park in 2017.
The documentary will follow his rehabilitation as he learns to drive without his legs, and receives support from his friends and family.
The racer received massive support from fans, the motorsport community and celebrities such as his idol, Lewis Hamilton.
Billy has since finished third at the British Formula 3 race at the Spa Francorchamps circuit, and to celebrate he drank champagne out of his artificial leg.
He said: “There’s a good friend of mine in the military who has been teaching me a few tricks, and drinking champagne out of a leg is one of them!
“I thought, I haven’t been on the podium for so long that I needed to remind the boys that this is what it’s all about, and I hope the boys in blue [at team Carlin] enjoyed it. And they might have to drink out of my leg later on too!”
The racedriver has not been put off racing by his accident, and insisted that motorsport is the safest it has ever been.
He said: “We have better security measures than in the eighties or nineties. Then it was so much worse.
“Racing is as safe as it can be now. Of course, you cannot predict anything in advance, but behind the scenes, we are working hard on safety.
“After my accident in the F4, all cars have been further adapted so that nobody has to experience what happened to me then.”
