OHMYGOSSIP — Will Young didn’t have the “strength” to star on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The ‘Leave Right Now’ hitmaker went to drastic measures to get out of the BBC One latin and ballroom show as he was very “unwell”.
He told Event magazine: “Mental illness is mental illness. I was unwell. In the weeks leading up to Strictly, all I could think about was how could I get out of doing the show. I knew I didn’t have the strength, that I wasn’t in the right place and that I would do myself real damage. I actually looked into the easiest way to break my legs so I couldn’t dance. That’s how bad it was.”
Meanwhile, Will previously admitted he had to “drag” himself to rehearsals.
He shared: “I was really ill. I was dragging myself to rehearsals. I just couldn’t do it any more. It was so bad I thought – I’m not joking – I thought about breaking my leg. I decided to take on ‘Strictly’ because I bloody love dancing. And I bloody hated it, because I was so ill.”
Will announced his departure just a couple weeks into the show back in 2016.
He said in a statement at the time: “To be a part of Strictly has been a long time ambition of mine. As a performer, a viewer, and a fan of the show, to dance as a contestant was an experience I always hoped for. I have made some great friends, and am in awe of their performances week in, week out. I have found a creative partnership with Karen [Clifton, his professional dance partner] that has been the most wonderful thing to experience. I will be eternally grateful to her for her direction, talent and guiding me through three wonderful dances that I will be able to show my grandkids in years to come. Unfortunately, I am leaving the show for personal reasons. I leave with joy in my heart that I have been able to take part in one of the most loved shows on British television.”
