Race Across The World returning after 2-year absence

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Race Across The World’ is returning to TV screens after a two-year absence.
The series has been delayed for the last couple of years because of the coronavirus pandemic, but producers are now hiring staff for the new season.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s TV Biz column: “‘RATW’ has a cult following and became huge during the early lockdowns when everyone discovered series one then got hooked on series two.
“But because it takes so long to film they’re the only two series for fans to binge on.
“Everyone has been desperate for producers to do more, but because of the pandemic and all of the travel restrictions it’s just not been possible.
“But now they’re starting to gear up to send another lucky set of contestants on their travels in 2022.”
BBC bosses had previously eyed a celebrity version of the show.
However, for the time being, those plans have been put on hold, as the broadcaster seeks to get “the civilian version off the ground”.
The insider added: “The celeb version hasn’t gone for good, but it’s had a pin put in it for now.
“The priority is getting the civilian version off the ground and on their travels again in the new year.”
The first series of ‘Race Across The World’ was won by the husband and wife combination of Elaine and Tony, who secured a £20,000 prize after racing from London to Singapore.
The second series of the show was won by uncle and nephew duo Emon and Jamiul, who raced from Mexico City to the most southerly city in the world, Ushuaia, in Argentina.
Emon and Jamiul subsequently decided to donate half of their prize money to the street kids of South America.
They said at the time: “The money will just go so a long way to help people in less fortunate situations, especially with what’s going on right now in the world it would be quite prominent.”
