OHMYGOSSIP — Jennifer Lopez is being recognised as the “pop culture innovator of the year”.
The 51-year-old singer is being presented with WSJ. Magazine’s Innovators Award during a special virtual ceremony on Wednesday (11.11.20) as the publication celebrates 10 years of innovation.
In a clip of her acceptance speech shared by PEOPLE, she said: “Until the world is 100 percent perfect and completely fixed I will never be done…
“Every day I’m trying to be a better version of myself.”
Singer Maluma – who has collaborated with J-Lo on both ‘Pa’ Ti’ and ‘Lonely’ – paid tribute to his friend in a teaser of his speech presenting her with the award.
He commented: “I’m grateful for all the hard work and sacrifice she’s made over the years and for paving the way for so many other Latin artists…
“Her creativity, her passion, the perfection she brings to the studio, and onset is the reason she’s a superstar and the reason I’m proud to present this award.”
Other honourees and presenters set for the annual ceremony include BTS, Ethan Hawke, James Corden, Taraji P. Henson, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Patti Smith and Tyler Perry.
In a statement, WSJ. Magazine’s editor in chief Kristina O’Neill said: “2020 has been a season of new challenges and opportunities.
“One reason I’m so excited about this year’s Innovators is because they’ve all risen to meet the moment with empathy and a sense of purpose.
“That we’re able to share their stories with a global audience in our first-ever all-virtual presentation feels especially fitting given the hope and admiration these extraordinary people inspire.”
The awards look to honour inspiring talents from a range of cultural pursuits, with the 2019 edition recognising the likes of Julianne Moore, Eddie Murphy and Tyler, the Creator.
This year’s event will be entirely virtual instead of the usual red carpet celebration, but fans wanting to tune in can register online at WSJInnovators.com on Wednesday (11.11.20) at 7pm EST.
