OHMYGOSSIP — Ulrika Jonsson is worried Christmas is going to “be properly cancelled”.
The 53-year-old television star admitted she is an “obsessive” for the festive season, but she’s worried celebrations could be axed this year due to restrictions put in place to battle the coronavirus pandemic.
Writing in her Best magazine column, Ulrika said: “For a Christmas obsessive like me, there is now real concern that, far from being the same as before, it might actually be properly cancelled by the current Eton Mess we have running our country.”
However, Ulrika has already started planning for the big day as “an act of defiance” – and to keep some feeling of hope.
She added: “So, in an act of defiance, I have just ordered the biggest turkey I could.
“I’m planning my crackers, colours and themes because, whether it happens or not, I need to keep the dream alive, just for a tad longer.”
Despite previously being optimistic about being able to celebrate Christmas as usual, she admitted she’s now feeling the same “dread” she gets near the end of a relationship.
She explained: “But now that we are less than seven weeks away, I’m starting to feel that dread in my stomach – the one you get when you know the Bloke is going to finish with you, but you’re clinging on by your fingernails hoping he’ll remember what a great time you had in Ibiza last Summer and how, over the past 12 months, you did all his laundry and darned his pitiful socks.”
And while she’s concerned for herself, Ulrika is also concerned for people who may not be able to celebrated with loved ones if restrictions are in place.
She said: “I think of all those elderly people who’ve had to feel so isolated. Those who’ve needed to shield, who have felt so alone. Those unable to form social bubbles due to personal circumstance. And now we might be telling them to keep going – stick with it and don’t make a fuss, because we’re not quite there yet. It breaks my heart.”
