OHMYGOSSIP — Alex Trebek’s final ‘Jeopardy!’ episode will air on Christmas Day (25.12.20).
The 80-year-old television host sadly died over the weekend following a cancer battle, and the show’s official Twitter account confirmed a special tribute for Monday’s (09.11.20) show, and a decision regarding episodes he had already filmed before his death.
They wrote: “Today’s show features a special message on behalf of everyone in the Jeopardy! family.
“Alex taped shows through December 25th, 2020. They will air as he intended, in his honor. (sic)”
Speaking during the emotional first edition of the show to air after Alex’s death, executive producer Mike Richards confirmed the late star filmed his final new eps two weeks ago.
All 35 of the host’s final episodes will as they were shot, as he noted “that’s what he wanted”.
Mike described Alex’s death as an “enormous loss” to not only the show’s crew and his family, but also to his “millions of fans”.
He added: “He loved this show and everything it stood for. In fact, he taped his final episodes less than two weeks ago.
“He will forever be an inspiration for his constant desire to learn, his kindness and for his love for his family.”
The likes of Ryan Reynolds, John Legend, Viola Davis and Ellen DeGeneres all took to social media to pay their respects over the weekend after the sad news of Alex’s death.
John wrote: “I was obsessed with Jeopardy as a nerdy kid growing up in Ohio. I’ve loved and revered Alex Trebek since I can remember. What an iconic career. RIP Alex Trebek.”
Whilst Viola called Alex “a true, true gentleman and courageous hero”, and Ellen posted: “Alex Trebek hosted Jeopardy for 36 years. What an incredible career and remarkable life. I’m sending love to his family and fans.”
Alex’s passing was confirmed by the official ‘Jeopardy!’ Twitter account on Sunday (08.11.20).
They wrote: “‘Jeopardy!’ is saddened to share that Alex Trebek passed away peacefully at home early this morning, surrounded by family and friends.”
The TV icon – who revealed his cancer diagnosis in 2019 – is survived by his wife Jeanie, and their two children, 30-year-old Matthew and 27-year-old Emily.
