Miss Earth India 2012 Prachi Mishra´s interview for MissEarth.tv

What environmental project will you create to promote the protection of Mother Earth and why?
To provide solar light to 500 remote rural households in India in a span of 100 days because these households use non-renewable resources like firewood and kerosene that lead to CO2 emission and deforestation which directly impacts the environment. I would create a project to set an example for the youth of India to emulate.

What makes you proud of your country and what can you promote about it?
India is all about “one” which personifies unity in diversity & I am proud of being a part of the spirit of “oneness”. 31 states, 1,618 language, 6,400 castes, 6 ethnic groups, 29 festivals – One country Expressing their spirit in one word “Vande Mataram” the essence being “I bow to the Mother, Mother Nation, Mother Earth. A nation of varied skin colours but one colour that unites all is the “Tri clour” of our national flag! India offers one wonder of the world which epitomizes love, faith, and passion -the “Taj Mahal” We believe in the institution of marriage, we believe in the social unit “A Family”. What is unique about our Indian culture and what I would like to advocate is an ageless practice of the “joint family system”. I am proud to be an Indian and I stand here as a symbol of “Indian Oneness and Unity”.

Describe your childhood/growing years:
Being the youngest in the family I was extremely naughty and terribly spoiled. I was pampered and loved by everyone. I always loved to play dress up with my mother’s wardrobe, her make up and her high heels. I would stand for ages in front of the mirror and dream of being a beauty queen and at the same time mimic Indian film stars. I was a young care free girl who enjoyed playing outdoor games, reading, spending time with my friends etc. I really did believe that ghost existed only to grow up and believe that those ghosts are skeletons in ones cupboard.

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?
Nothing is permanent. Failures are also a part of life and part of the learning process. You fall, you rise, you shine. Everyday is a new experience and I keep learning from my failures which ultimately makes me stronger and hopefully a successful person. Never stop trying and dreaming because all you need is hard work and self belief.

What is your most memorable moment?
Definitely when I was crowned the winner of Miss India Earth 2012 crown. Those 30 seconds of me sashing down the ramp with tears of happiness rolling down my eyes is a memory that I will hold close to me for the rest of my life.

What is your environmental advocacy and why did you choose it?
2012 is the year of sustainable energy. I would like to unleash the energy of youth to provide solar energy to the remotest village to fight endemic poverty. Sustainable energy will power sustainable development. Because, India being a tropical country receives 325 days of direct sunlight which increases the potential of using solar energy and also because 50% of Indian population is below the age of 25 years. So, putting these 2 together. I would like to motivate this use of sustainable energy.

What tip can you share to promote sustainable energy for all?
I believe that every small action has a chain reaction which ultimately makes a big difference. I would urge every individual to do their bit in contributing towards adopting a sustainable source of energy. By working together in this direction we can make a great difference to the environment, making the Earth a better place to live in.

Other information that you would like to share with the Miss Earth Management:
I have been associated with “The Earth Organization” and I have been a part of various activities conducted by them, like tree plantation and blood donation drive. I will be communicating all my answers in “HINDI”, hence I would need an interpreter to communicate my answer.
