Margot Robbie’s Neighbours dialect coach

OHMYGOSSIP — Margot Robbie had a dialect coach on ‘Neighbours’ to make her sound less Australian.
The 28-year-old actress – who was born Down Under – played Donna Freedman on the Australian soap for three years and despite being an Aussie, the soap’s bosses were keen to downplay her native twang.
She said: “My Australian accent was too strong, even for ‘Neighbours’, they had to soften it a little bit.
“I’m from Queensland and my family are from inland Queensland, where the accent gets a little stronger. I have a more refined accent.”
Margot – who starred in ‘Neighbours’ from 2008 to 2011 – admitted her accent is a lot more diluted now following a stint living in England, but she soon remembers her Aussie roots when she speaks to pals on the phone.
Speaking on ‘This Morning’, the ‘Wolf of Wall Street’ actress said: “It did help that I lived with a lot of English people, so it is more diluted than it used to be.
“My husband’s English, but we live in America and most of my friends are English.
“If I’m in Oz, or even on the phone to my friends in Oz the accent comes straight back.”
In January, Margot admitted she would be up for reprising her role as Donna.
When asked if she wanted to go back to ‘Neighbours’, she replied: “Yeah, I think I would, totally. We could get the whole gang back together.”
The ‘Suicide Squad’ star – who was nominated for a Best Actress Academy Award for ‘I, Tonya’ at this year’s ceremony – recently revealed her fellow ‘Neighbours’ stars helped her mature after she joined the soap.
She said: “I was 17 when I started on the job and I had just moved from the Gold Coast and didn’t know anyone in Melbourne [where ‘Neighbours’ is filmed].
“Obviously I had never lived on my own before and everyone just pretty much took me under their wing. One of the downsides of leaving home at an early age to chase your dreams is preparedness.
“I was pretty much living on Froot Loops for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Everyone was like ‘OK, you will come over to my house’ … Susan Kennedy [Jackie Woodburne] would invite me over once a week and cook me a roast, and Toadie, or Ryan who plays Toadie, helped me do my taxes!”
