OHMYGOSSIP — Nikki Grahame’s mother is thinking about legal action against the hospital that discharged her daughter out a day before she died.
Susan Grahame – the late ‘Big Brother’ star’s mum who passed away just 24 hours after leaving hospital – believes that not enough attention was paid to Nikki’s severe anorexia and doesn’t “want this happening to anyone else.”
The 67-year-old grieving mum told The Sunday Mirror: “I don’t want this to happen to anyone else.”
Susan believes that Nikki – who died, aged 38 , after shooting to fame on the 2006 season of the Channel 4 reality show – “should never have been discharged” from hospital a year ago.
The ‘Nikki Grahame: Who is She’ documentary star alleged that her television personality daughter collapsed in front of medical professionals just a couple of days after being let out and believes that Nikki’s care was too much for staff, saying her daughter’s condition was “too much trouble” as her BMI sank to 10 per cent.
Susan told the paper: “I was there for two weeks with Nikki. Each day, I told the nurses she couldn’t go home.”
“Her father David, who was dying at the time, told them if they let her go, she would die – and she did.”
“She had a BMI of 10. Her skeleton was breaking up. But they let her go because she could walk up the stairs.”
“I was in despair when she was discharged. I said, ‘You can’t let her go – look at the state of her.”
An inquest was ruled out into Nikki’s death as it was ruled to be because of anorexia but Susan believes that healthcare providers need to be trained in the complicated nature of eating disorders.
She said: “When a doctor trains for seven years, he gets an hour-and-a-half of training into eating disorders.”
“Money needs to go into specialist training for this sort of thing. It’s key.”
