OHMYGOSSIP — H.E.R. produced a powerful rendition of ‘America The Beautiful’ at the Super Bowl on Sunday (07.02.21).
The 23-year-old singer delivered a stirring performance of the patriotic song at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, where the Tampa Bay Buccaneers ultimately defeated the Kansas City Chiefs to win the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
H.E.R. sang from the stands of the stadium and her performance of the song – which was written by Katharine Lee Bates – also featured an impressive guitar solo.
Before taking to the stage, H.E.R. admitted she wanted to bring her own sense of style to the well-known song.
She explained: “It’s a huge stage and it doesn’t get any bigger, you know? But I think the goal, for me, is to make [the song] my own.
“I’m a huge fan of the different versions of ‘America the Beautiful,’ but I really want to bring some different elements in there – make it H.E.R.”
The singer – who was born in Vallejo, California, and raised in the San Francisco Bay – admitted she never imagined she’d perform on such a big stage.
She said: “I think the number-one thing I think about a lot is the fact that I’m a young black girl from the Bay area, that never imagined that I would be on a stage like that.
“I think it’s a message to other young black women that you can do it too.”
The ‘Hard Place’ hitmaker also revealed she’d been preparing diligently for her Super Bowl performance.
She explained to ‘Entertainment Tonight’: “I’ve been in rehearsals a lot, and I’ve been watching a lot of other performers.
“I’m just going to try to tell myself to have a really good time. But I’m going to be in there, getting my warm-ups in, and just praying that everything goes well.”
