OHMYGOSSIP — Anne-Marie almost quit her career “three times” over public scrutiny.
The 29-year-old singer has admitted she’s too “sensitive” to handle criticism, and has even considered walking away from her career multiple times because hate comments have gotten too much for her to deal with.
She said: “It’s happened three times, where I’ve sat at home and I’ve been like, ‘That’s it, I’m not doing it any more’. It’s hard to talk about because I’ve always been such a sensitive person.
“Even at school, when I was treated badly by other students, I think, ‘Was I treated that badly, or am I just really sensitive?’ ”
Anne-Marie often doubts her abilities, and said there have been times when she’s thought the songs she writes aren’t good enough, despite having 10 Top 40 singles to her name.
She told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “In regards to the industry, if for instance I feel like I haven’t written a good song and I feel really s*** and I don’t think I’m a good songwriter, I’m like, ‘Why am I doing this?’ ”
Meanwhile, the ‘Friends’ hitmaker recently said she’s happiest when she’s crying, because she loves the “release of emotion”.
When asked when she’s at her happiest, she said: “When I cry. Not just happy tears – I love the release of emotion.
“I can be an extreme person, so my emotions tend to be heightened and I get really happy, really sad or really angry.
“I feel great when I cry – it’s that sense of relief.”
The music star also admitted to being particularly annoyed by bad manners.
She added: “If I hold a door open for someone and they don’t say thank you, I normally just shout ‘Thank you!’ back at them!”
Despite this, Anne-Marie conceded she’s spent too much of her life trying to please other people.
Asked what advice she’d give her teenage self, she replied: “Not everyone will like you and you don’t have to care. I spent too much time pleasing others.
“Now I’m much happier and less worried about what people think of me.”
