Actor Sam Shepard arrested for allegedly driving drunk
OHMYGOSSIP — Actor and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Sam Shepard was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated Monday in Santa Fe.
The 71-year-old was arrested outside a restaurant after a security guard there observed him trying to drive his vehicle with the emergency brake still on.
Police said Shepard admitted he had been drinking, and officers observed he had bloodshot, watery eyes and the odor of alcohol upon him. He allegedly refused to take a breath test, which increases his charge to aggravated driving while intoxicated, and failed field sobriety tests.
“Officers said Mr. Shepard was compliant,” Sante Fe police Lt. Andrea Dobyns told E! Online. “They had no issues with the arrest.”
This isn’t the first time Shepard has been arrested for driving while intoxicated. He pleaded guilty in 2009 to drunken driving in Normal, Ill.
